Chapter 47: THE TEMPTATION
Phyllis resumed work two weeks after Melanie's court case because she couldn't give her best from the house. She went with Melanie because she was also working as a receptionist in Amelia's office. People gathered to welcome Phyllis when she got to their office complex because they had missed her. In fact, her absence had been felt because she made sure everyone who came into contact with her smiled and she also offered helping hands to anyone who needed them. They had a party thrown in her name with a very huge three tier chocolate cake because she loved cake and chocolate at the same time. She asked everyone to go back to his or her duty post after forty-five minutes and appreciated each and everyone for the warm welcome.

"Lastly, you have to build a good relationship with your customers and be prompt in delivery so that they would advertise for you and some would even give their pictures to you for adverts to boost your sales. She thanked Phyllis and gave her a beautiful dress she had sewn from an African wax print for her. Phyllis loved the multi coloured floral dress she had received and appreciate her for the thoughts and gifts.
When they had both settled, she informed Agyapimaa that she would be the one to be travelling around to gather reports on the business branches of Richards International for her to work with. She told Agyapomaa that, it was a great opportunity she was giving to her for her development so she should make good use of that and learn from them too. Mr. Richards came to her office to welcome her back to work and handed her a letter that said she would report to work at 9:30am and close at 2:30pm and he insisted on that because he knew she was stubborn to want to go by her usual reporting time of 8:00am to 5:00pm which is the normal time people in Ghana spend at work. Those who are fortunate close at 4:00 pm. He spent time with Beryl and later left for a meeting.
Phyllis took a break to attend to Beryl and also had her lunch before she went back to her desk to work. She went through the accounts of Richards International and realised their sales and profits were marginal which to her wasn't a good thing for Richards International so she began to draw strategies to help improve sales and profits. Her first plan was to request for external auditors to audit all the accounts of every branch of Richards International to be sure no one was stealing from any of their company. She also proposed that Richards International switched from using unknown people for advertisements and rather use their customers plus one popular actor/actress who can give tangible testimonies about their goods and services. She again proposed that Richards International gets actively involved in engaging in social interventions which would pull customers for them because they believe their money would be put to good use and it will also inform people about their goods and services and they would be enticed to patronize them. Phyllis, lastly proposed that raffles be drawn for winners to be compensated so that people will buy more than they used to buy and also the Human Resource Department institutes a scheme that will help reward hard working employees to help boost productivity. She presented her proposals to Mr. Richards and even before he read through, he was impressed with her for thinking about how to boost his Company right after sh resumed work.
Mr. Richards was listening to the news when Phyllis went inside to present her proposal to her. While they were discussing the proposal, they was a "breaking news" concerning one of their competitor companies which was into the production of agro chemicals. Their warehouse had been gutted by fire which would plunge the company into debt which might even lead to it's collapse. They were both heartbroken because the company was worth millions of dollars and they could imagine what the stakeholders and workers might be going through. "Could I make a suggestion to you, Mr. Richards?" Phyllis asked and she was giving the permission to. I propose that Richards International makes a donation to this Agro Chemicals Company and issues a god will message to them as well. This would help to put our name in the good books of Ghanaians and their customers would be buying from us until they get back on their feet and who knows we might even maintain some of their customers." He was impressed and decided to call for a board meeting so that they would have a discussion on that. Agyapomaa called to inform her that Beryl was awake and crying so she asked to be excused.
She closed at 5:00pm and drove home as soon as she could to prepare supper because her husband didn't like foods that were kept in the refrigerator because he says they loose their taste when chilled. She prepared yam and garden eggs with salmon stew for supper and added pineapple and cucumber juice with a touch of lemon and ginger to give it a good taste. She didn't like Melanie cooking their food because to her that was a delicate area that steals a man's heart and she wasn't ready for any competitions. While she served them the pinecu juice, she took hibiscus tea because that was her contraceptive. Melanie washed the dishes and later joined them to watch the news. Phyllis was dressing Beryl when Melanie joined them because she had bathed her. Denzel decided to watch a sports program at the living room so that he would not disturb Phyllis because she was tired.
