Chapter 41: APPRECIATION
Phyllis and Denzel left their suite in the afternoon to Denzel's parents house to thank them for their support during the ceremonies. They met them seated at the porch so they joined them there. Mr. Jones welcomed them and offered them seats to sit down. Mrs Jones asked if they would take water but they politely refused it because they were satisfied and full from the lunch they took at the Hotel. Mr. Jones asked for the purpose of their visit and Denzel told him they had come to show their appreciation to them for their support during the ceremonies. Mr. Jones smiled and said " your mother and I are the ones who have to thank you for the honour you have done us. A child's marriage is an honour to the parents especially if the partner is as good and kind as Phyllis is. Thanks so much son". He and his wife got up to shake Mr. and Mrs. Manford's hands as a sign of congratulations and appreciation.
Mr. Jones advised Denzel to be very cautious of his emotions and learn to control himself especially his heart and eyes. "As a man, you'll meet very beautiful women now especially now that you're married. Honestly, I have been wondering where that temptation comes from. Protect your eyes and heart at all cost because we men, are easily moved by our eyes. Womanizer would destroy your destiny if you don't learn to control yourself. He also advised Phyllis to respect her husband and be patient with him especially when he's being a man (arrogant and egoistic). No matter how hard you try, you won't be a perfect mother and wife, so that kill yourself or beat yourself hard if you think you're not being perfect.They had a nice conversation before Denzel informed his parents that they were moving back to his house that evening. Mr. Jones was so glad to hear that. "Ah, my son, you couldn't have made me any more proud, it's good to build and maintain relationships but you make sure you are never a burden to them or you would feel indebted to them forever. That's a good decision you have taken. I know the Richards are kind and lovely people but people change."
They left the Jones' house and went to the Mensah's house to also thank them and bring Beryl back to their house. Mr. Mensah thanked Denzel for the honour he's done his family by customarily and legally marrying their daughter. "I'm also proud of the both of you because the calibre of people who honoured the ceremonies is a reflection of how good you are living your lives." He advised both of them to respect each other and honour their marital bed and obligations. He also told them to not cut their families off because they're married. They should be in constant communication with them but not to be informing them about everything that goes on in their marriage else that would weaken their bond and destroy their relationship. He told Denzel to learn to be calm because women are like a storm, they blow fiercely but with lots of love. If he depends on her roaring to take decisions, he would destroy the marriage.
Denzel got up from his seat and knelt down to thank Mr. and Mrs. Mensah for giving their daughter to him for marriage. "She's such a good soul and a beautiful jewel and I know you, her parents are responsible for that. I will do my best to be a good husband to her." Thank you very much Sir, even for the support you and Mum gave us during the ceremonies. I guess you couldn't even enjoy your sleep because your granddaughter cried late in the night and at dawn." He moved to Mrs. Mensah but she got up and hugged him and told him, whatever she did was for the pleasure of it and that they were always welcome to ask for help from them. They asked for permission to leave and informed them that, they had moved back into Denzel's house. Mrs. Mensah went inside to bring Beryl to them so that they could leave with her. She was deeply asleep when her grandmother handed her over to her mother and they left.
When they got to the Richards mansion, they were having supper so they were asked to join the table so they joined but didn't eat because they weren't hungry. They just took pineapple juice with vanilla cookies since it wasn't appropriate for them to join them on the table and refuse to eat. They both thanked the Richards with tears in their eyes because they were moved by their contributions towards their marriage ceremonies. Denzel called for blessings on them and told them he appreciated their love and support for him. He hugged both Mr. and Mrs. Richards and whispered " thanks, mum and dad, I am very grateful especially to you mum for agreeing to support my dad pull this massive surprise on me and my wife. May God bless you." Both father and son broke into uncontrollable tears which got the two young ladies confused and clueless as well. Mrs. Richards quickly cleared her throat to draw father and son's attention to the fact that the ladies were there. They quickly broke up and Mr Richards said, I'm just remembering my own wedding which happened years ago and Denzel added that, he was also in tears because he hadn't seen any man as kind as Mr. Richards and he was impressed.
I also want to thank you, Mum and Dad for the support you give my husband and I. You've been kind to us and I'm so grateful. Your love overwhelms me. Thank you for organizing this ceremonies for me. Honestly, I couldn't have even pulled that off by myself. You really organised it as exactly as I wanted but couldn't have even done. I also want to thank you for supporting my friendship with Amelia. Though she's a pain in my flesh, she's very amazing to me. Amelia, I am grateful for everything you do for me and I wish you well in everything you do for me. May we be great." She hugged her and they asked for permission to leave.
Mr. and Mrs. Richards were hesitant to allow them move out but Denzel convinced them to allow them move out so that they would make their own mistakes and learn from them. They promised to be visiting them often. Amelia told Phyllis that she had changed the organisation of her office so that Beryl would be comfortable there since she didn't want her to be leaving her in anyone's care because she was still a baby. They requested to leave and then Denzel went to pick their luggage which had already been packed by one of the maids. Mrs. Richards packed some of the food they were eating for them so that they would eat when they et home since it would be tiring and late for Phyllis to coom.
Phyllis was so happy when she got back home. The house had been renovated and the decorations had been changed. She loved their bedroom settings and organisation and was very impressed with Beryl's side of the room. The pink paint with her crib and white wardrobe which was filled with beautiful clothes and shoes were so beautiful. She picked a card from the crib which read "Dear Beryl, these pretty clothes, crib, toys and footwears are from your beautiful Aunt, Ame, I hope you love them. Hoping to see you grow so that we spend time and play together as well. Can't wait to see you grow because we have to try all the cakes and ice creams we can. Love you very much." Phyllis smiled to herself and said " that foolish girl is planning to spoil my Dahlia". She sat on the bed to feed her since she was crying. Denzel moved the things inside and called Amelia to thank her because he loved the work she had done on his house especially the inside. She bathed Phyllis and put her to bed before they ate.
They both watched videos and pictures from the ceremonies and discussed them for a long while before they decided to go to bed.
