Chapter 30: THE MENDING OF THE BROKEN HEART
On one Wednesday evening, Denzel and Phyllis went out on a date at Alberto Lounge, Surry Hills NSW in Sydney to celebrate their two years of being together. They shared their memorable experiences of being together with each other over their favourite meals and wine. They also appreciated each other for being supportive and holding on to the relationship for it to work. Denzel was very appreciative of her as he talked about how she had added value to his life and how she saved him from depression because he had been lonely for a while before meeting her.
Phyllis also appreciated him for showing her that love was beautiful and still existed. She had been feeling like a queen all that while until she delivered. She told him she really loved him and would have given him more of her if he had ever asked him but for now she wasn't sure of making any sacrifices for him again since he's no longer the man she fell in love with. She would have asked him where she went wrong or what she did wrong, but she wouldn't do that because she knows she wasn't the problem but it's a decision he had made.
Denzel looked perplexed at her and tapped the back of her hand to get her attention and asked her the reasons for making those comments because he didn't know what he had done to her. He told her he had always loved her and would do anything to be with her but she smiled and asked him to look straight in her eyes. She smiled at him and asked him if he would be bold and sincere with her to tell her he's never cheated on her since they started dating. He bowed his head for a while and apologised to her for betraying her love.
Denzel bowed his head again for a while with tears in his eyes and then went down on his knees to apologise to her for causing her that much pain. She quickly helped him to get on his knees so that he would hug and kiss him because she had longed for that for a while now but she had been hesitant to doing that because she was bitter about him and would cry if she should hug him but that now she had forgiven him, it felt good to hug and kiss him. She hugged him for about five minutes and didn't want to even break from him because she had missed him and the hug made her felt relieved and peaceful.
They continued to wine, dine and talk for a while and later danced to a song that was being played in the restaurant before they drove home. His mother was very happy and relieved when she saw the smiles on their faces as they walked into the living room. She talked to them for a while and later left them alone so that they would continue to enjoy the night since it was still young. They were both really happy that night so she took the chance to ask him why he cheated on her.
Denzel told her that, it wasn't because she offended him or gave him reasons to but it was a moment of selfish and lack of self control that led him to cheat on her. He felt lonely after she delivered because she was spending most of her time on their baby and her work and felt neglected by her so when Amanda warmly welcomed him and made time for her, he felt comfortable with her and did what he did with her but for the past couple of days past she had been thinking about their relationship and had realised that, Phyllis had given so much to their relationship and besides he was part of the reason she had piled her work because she had to make time to search for and care for him after the abduction and he had been ashamed of himself for being selfish and hurting her in the process.
He promised to break things off with Amanda and concentrate on building their relationship if not for anything else to protect Beryl their daughter. She kissed and thanked him. She asked Denzel if they could add Dahlia to their daughter's name to make it Beryl Dahlia Mansford. Denzel asked her why she chose Dahlia for her and she smiled and told her because Dahlia meant Elegance and staying gracefully even in tough conditions and she wanted something that would remind her of the challenging moments in their relationship and also to groom their daughter into elegance and grace since she was a precious jewel to both of them.
He smiled and agreed to it. She requested for sex but Denzel refused it. She was sad and tears started flowing from her eyes so Denzel held her from the back and told her it wasn't because of her body or the other woman that's why he was denying her the sex because he was missed having sex with her but he wants her to fully recover from the wounds women get in their vagina after delivery. He didn't want to cause her any harm or complications so she should understand. They shared a bed together that night.
Denzel stopped texting or calling Amanda and also avoided her calls and texts because he really want to make things work for Phyllis and his relationship so he was bent on doing everything possible to make their relationship work even if he had to deny himself of the woman that gives him a passionate pleasure. Amanda kept calling and texting with lots of voicemails and voice notes but he never picked or respond to any of them.
He was now splendid lots of time with Phyllis. He helped her to do her morning exercises and prepared breakfast for the house as well. He also spent time with his Beryl and he loved doing that because anytime she smiled, she felt butterflies in his stomach. He loved his daughter so much.
They would also go out for shopping and sightseeing whenever they had the time because they were preparing to go back home and needed to prepare presents for their families and friends. They also had to purchase items for Beryl's naming ceremony.
Phyllis started to glow again and Denzel's mother loved it but she also encouraged her to stick to the advice she gave her and told her to make sure she had established her own consultancy firm in at most two years to come. She also told her to maintain peace in her relationship and give him room to make his mistakes so that he would learn from them and correct them since he had not been in a relationship until they met. She thanked her for all her support and hugged her because she knew she wouldn't have made it if it wasn't her advice and support.
Denzel transferred money into Phyllis' account for all the expenses she had been making ever since their challenges and thanked her for stepping up when he wasn't doing so. Four days to their coming home, they went for a photo shoot with their daughter and his mother so that they would also remember their time in Australia. To them it wasn't just the birth of Beryl that made the place memorable but their challenges which had bonded them together and made their relationship stronger. She also loved it because it brought her closer to his mother and they now had a beautiful relationship.
