Chapter 4: THE CONVERSATION
Phyllis and Dennis' relationship was growing fast. They spoke to each other on phone at least three times in a day. Dennis took Phyllis to lunch three times in the week. He would ride his motorcycle to her office and park it at their car park so that they could both walk hand in hand to the diner where they take their lunch.
They were so beautiful together and they worn the admiration of most of the people they came into contact with. Dennis holds her hands as they talk and walk together. They also had smiles on their face and you could see that they were both comfortable with each other. Phyllis once told a friend that, " I feel so secured and comfortable around him. I sometimes even forget that I am an adult and a director when I am with him. I love him dearly." You could see and feel this love whenever they're together.
Whenever they get to the diner, Dennis chooses a table and pushes the chair for her to sit down before he goes to order their food. He never allowed her to do that even when she wanted to do it and Dennis always wanted them to share a plate together because he loved to see her eat.
There was a problem they were both facing in eating together, the bill. Phyllis wanted to pay sometimes but Dennis was never in agreement with that. She wasn't comfortable with Dennis always settling the bill and sometimes didn't want to go for lunch. Dennis also felt settling the bill is a man's duty.
On their way to lunch one Tuesday afternoon, Dennis couldn't stop gushing at her. He paused as they walked and pushed her a little close to him, lifted her head so that they could both look directly into each other's eyes and said to her, " babes, you look delicious. Would you please spend the night with me?" Phyllis smiled and responded in the affirmative. Dennis had a way of making her fall in love with herself everyday.
After Dennis got to his office, he sent her a text message saying, " babes, you have always looked innocent and I thought you didn't even know how to fuck but you keep showing me otherwise. Dennis then asked Phyllis what he should do about Felicia and all Phyllis could say was, " I honestly don't know since I don't know what went on in your relationship and why it ended".
She then requested to go home since she didn't feel comfortable any longer at that time. He insisted she spent the night there but she didn't agree to it. While she was in the cab going home, Phyllis called Ellen, her friend and told her what Dennis said about his ex. Ellen told her to not get involved since the girl hasn't done anything to her yet. She told Phyllis to stay out of it and allow Dennis deal with the situation since it was his mess.
Phyllis went back to Dennis the next day so that they could talk. Dennis requested Phyllis to pay the lady off so that she would stop disturbing them but Phyllis told him to deal with the situation since it was his mess and she didn't actually know how their relationship ended. He was hurt by that statement she made and remained quiet till she decided to leave. He looked at her and said, " I wasn't expecting you to say this. I wanted you to own this problem as well and come out with solutions for us to solve it but if you tell me to deal with my mess, then I am disappointed in you."
She was offended but didn't want to argue with him, so she left in anger. She didn't want to be involved because she felt he wasn't being totally honest with her and she didn't want to be fooled like she had been in her previous relationships. She went to spend the rest of the day with Anarisa as she switched her phone off.
This conversation was the beginning of their problems since it brought trust issues between them especially on the part of Phyllis.
