Chapter 24 - Understanding the Language
Mom brought me to the bookshelves in the living room. She started picking out a few thick books and carried them over to the table with the help of her Qi, where she sat me down beside the stack of books.
"Here, this is all the dictionaries we have in our library. If you want more, then I'll have to go to the clan library to get some more, and most of them are probably copies. At any rate, if you want some more, I can go get them for you~"
"Uhn Uhn! I want all of them!" I nodded my head vigorously.
"Eh~? But it's going to be troublesome, and it's so far away~" Mom whined
"...Can I not have them?" I asked with puppy eyes.
"...Can! Of course, you can! But mommy wants a kiss from Yan Yan as a reward first!" Mom said as she drew her cheek closer.
'A kiss? Uh... Sure. Mom probably means on the cheek, but she has never once shown me a kiss on the cheek, so I HAVE to do it the only way she's shown... 😏'
When mom's cheek is right in front of me, I grabbed her cheeks and moved her face towards me, and kissed mom on the lips. And with a hearty *Muuuuaah~!* sound, I separated from mom's luscious, tender lips, after which I smiled widely at her.
"Is that enough?" I asked while still smiling widely.
Mom was dumbfoundedly staring at me while touching her lips with her fingers.
"Y-you, where did you learn that huh!" Mom asked in a fake angry tone with a slight flush on her face, as if hiding her embarrassment.
"Hmm? From you and dad. Don't mom and dad always kiss each other on the lips?" I innocently said.
"E-eh? Uhhhh..." Mom paused, as if like she was thinking back to all the times she had kissed dad since I was born.
'I'm not wrong, I think. I've never seen mom and dad kiss anywhere else besides the lips... The lower ones are still lips, and I ain't no kissin' no one else's dicc.'
"Uuuuuu... Fine. But next time, kiss mommy on the cheek okay?" Mom groaned with her cheeks getting more flushed than before.
"But why?" I 'innocently' and 'curiously' asked.
"B-be-because, kissing on the lips is for people who l-love each other!"
"But I love mommy~ Does mommy not love me?" I asked with tears threatening to spill from my puppy eyes.
'Wow. I suddenly became a real actress. Women' bodies can be very scary sometimes.
I remember that after a certain age, I just couldn't cry anymore, even if something sad happened. Only if it was something that was truly touching, combined together with staring at that touching thing without blinking could I truly get my tears out, most probably because my eyes were dry, heh.
But I'm in a girl's body now, a baby no less, and this capacity for acting is truly amazing...'
"No no! Of course not! Mommy loves you very very much, as much as I love daddy! Maybe even more!" Mom denied in a hurry, afraid to give out the wrong impression.
"Really?" I lightly bit the bottom part of my lips.
"En! En! En! Mommy loves you veeeeeeeerry much!" Mom hurriedly nodded her head.
"Yaaaaaaay~! Mommy loves me veeeeeeeerry much! I love mommy beeeeeeeeary much too~!" I happily cried out with a silly grin while stretching my arms out towards mom's face, gesturing for a hug.
Mom helplessly smiled too and complied, carried me up and hugging my head at her shoulders, supporting my butt with her other hand. And we stayed like that as I pretended to fall asleep. Mom then grabbed the cloth she used all the time to tie me snugly to her chest, and went on with her work.
'Well, I guess this is the best way to end it. Any other way would've been awkward, I think. Man. I really wanna just read some books, especially the ones on cultivation and stuff. For things like that, I really need some proper basics and concepts to get some inspiration on how to move onwards...and confirm a few ideas. Otherwise, there's really nothing much I can do right now.'

Evening time.
My eyes fluttered open as hunger struck my stomach.
'...I actually fell asleep... Sigh. I'll just wait until tomorrow to start the reading binge then.'
I savoured the taste of my milk meal and then went back to sleep.
'Sigh... A baby's life is great, eat, sleep, poop. Rinse and repeat. Sleeeeep is guuuuuud~...'

'Huh, I woke up. What time is it?'
I looked outside at the closed window saw no light coming in, only pitch-black darkness.
'Welp, I might as well continue on with my routine until morning.' I thought as I began my body moving routine of burst and endurance.

'Whew. The sunlight's peeking through already, so it's a little after dawn I guess. Time to chill until my morning meal. Then onwards to knowledge galore! Hahahahaha!' I crazily thought.
'Kuhum Kuhum. Relax, me. Deep breaths.'

After enjoying a delicious, luscious meal, I finally began to ask mom to bring me all the books.
"Mommy, can you bring me all the dicktionaariess in the clan library? I will stay here on the table to finish the ones here. You promised me~" I acted in a spoiled manner.
"Okay, okay, fine. Be careful okay, don't fall off the table, it will hurt very bad." Mom cautioned.
"Ouchie?"
"Yes, A lot of very ouchie pain will come to you if you fall of the table, so be very, very careful, okay?"
"Uhn!"
"I'm going now~"
"En, buh-bye~" I said as I waved my hands.
'Yasssss. Now, I can go full throttle. Just nice, I can train the activation speed of my abilities.'
I began flipping open the first dictionary to the first page.
'Well then, let's begin the training.'
『Ascendance』, 100% Activate!
With『Ascendance』active, I began looking through the whole page, committing all of its contents to memory first, then contemplating on its meanings. Then I attempt to use the words in every way possible, after which, I compare my understanding with the dictionary's definition, sorting out which ways were wrong and which ways were right, then repeating the process until I have no more ideas left.
'Whew I'm done with this page, plenty more left to go.'
『Ascendance』, Deactivate!
I moved my fingers to turn the page over, then repeated what I did with the previous page. Like such, the activation and deactivation of『Ascendance』became smoother and smoother, soon, becoming second nature as I read, commit to memory, understand, contemplate, experiment with its usage, compare right and wrong, then rinse and repeat, until no more is left, then I move onto the next page, deactivating『Ascendance』before I move on to the next page, then reactivating『Ascendance』again before I start on the next page.
With constant repetition, the process of understanding the words as best as I could became smoother, faster, and easier. I sunk into the reverie and enjoyment of understanding and improving my knowledge, until I finished the last page of the dictionary, at which point I was awoken from my reverie
"Whew. That was amazing. This really makes gathering knowledge much less boring. If I hadn't had the cheat known as『Ascendance』, I really wouldn't have come this far, this fast as easily on my own. I might actually get addicted to this. And it's a great addiction to have." I thought out loud.
Reactivating『Ascendance』, I began my retrospection at the contents of the dictionary, truly surprised at the ease I've remembered everything.
'This is amazing. Is this the so-called Memory Palace? I've always felt it was kinda bullshitty kind of thing, but this one's pretty amazing. I would rather call it Memory Database. It's not an actual database, but it really does make me wanna create a copy of my brain that handles all the processing stuff. I know it's possible with mana, but whether I can do the same with Qi remains yet to be seen...'
"Well, I should read all of these dictionaries and brush up my understanding of the Chinese language. It would be really, really embarrassing if I end up unable to understand what other people wrote or said. After reading everything, I should reread everything again and compare my new understandings. I should have new ideas and inspirations after reading the whole lot.
After all, my foundations of the Chinese language is just far too shallow when compared to the whole language. Really, a huge pain in the ass, but at least, a good way to train my learning." I said to myself as I rubbed my chin.
I then continued onwards with my plans, doing everything as far as I could, and then repeating it again, addicted to the feeling of easily remembering everything thanks to『Ascendance』, and time easily flowed past like a rushing river towards the sea.

"Hum hu hum hum hum~ I hope Yan Yan is okay, I'm a little worried. Also, I hope Yan Yan is happy with the books I brought her. Who knew the clan library had so many dictionaries? I brought all of them in my space ring without telling the elder, but these kinds of books are common anyway, everybody living in the clan mansion has their own copies." An Xin spoke to herself as she hummed and skipped across the clan compound speedily.
"Ah, I'm back~!" An Xin shouted out when she reached the courtyard that belongs to her and her husband.
"Hmm? Yan Yan? Are you okay? Hello~?" An Xin worriedly called out as she quickly removed her boots and went into the living room when her daughter did not respond.
"Yan Yan! Are.. you... o...kay...?"
An Xin saw her daughter still on the table, staring intently at the pages of the dictionary for a few tens of breaths of time, before turning her head to the next page for the same amount of time, and smoothly turning over the pages before repeating the process again.
"Yan Yan?" An Xin gingerly asked.
Her daughter never responded, continuing on staring at the dictionary.
"Hello~? Yan Yan? Heaven to Yan Yan~?" An Xin continued to call out, but to no avail, as Hui Yan still did not respond.
'Wow, Yan Yan is so focused on the dictionary that she can't even hear me. If she can cultivate, she would surely make leaps and bounds with such single-minded focus. Not many children could just sit down and meditate to gather the Qi of Heaven and Earth after all.' An Xin thought to herself, proud of the promise her daughter has shown.
'I guess I'll just watch over her then, until she finished with what she was doing...
Hmm? Hold on, how many of the dictionaries has she read?'
As she thought that, Hui Yan finished the dictionary she was holding and placed it on a large stack of thick books, and took another dictionary from a stack of 2 books, leaving one lone book by itself on the table, to the left of Hui Yan.
"She read so many dictionaries already?? Yan Yan really is amazing! Even as a kid, I could barely finish one dictionary, and even now, I wouldn't be able to sit through the whole stack of books...
No, I don't want to lose, I won't lose to my daughter!" An Xin shouted to herself as a fire blazed in her eyes, the part of her that hates to lose flaring up.
She began taking out all the dictionaries she found in the clan library, and placed it all on the large carpet that covers almost the whole living room, and started taking one and reading it.

Evening time...
"I'm back! ...Xin Xin?" Wei Bai shouted from the courtyard as he took off his boots before entering the living room.
"......Xin Xin? What's going on?" Wei Bai asked, speechless at the sight that covers the living room.
"..Huh? Bai Bai, you're back?" An Xin haggardly said as she looked up.
"What's going on here?" Wei Bai repeated his question.
"Weeeeell. I saw Yan Yan so absorbed in reading the dictionaries, that I just didn't want to lose, so I started as well, but It's really, really boooring. I don't get how Yan Yan can stand this for so long. And you know what? After reading the last book, she reorganized the dictionaries and started rereading from the first one she started reading from when I gave her the books again!" An Xin complained.
"...Well, what do you want me to do?"
"..."
"There isn't anything I can do you know? If Yan'er wants to read, let her read."
"B-bu-but!..." An Xin trailed off.
*Haaaaaaaaaa*
"Fiiiiiine. Let's just go have some fun. I want to relax myself after that stressful ordeal. Yan Yan is very absorbed in the dictionaries, she couldn't even hear me!" An Xin whined as she pulled Wei Bai's arm towards the bedroom.
"Sigh. Sometimes, I feel like I spoil you more than you spoil Yan Yan..." Wei Bai sighed.
"Uhuhu~ Isn't that a good thing~?" She cheekily smirked.
"Who knows?"
The couple continued their bantering in whispers, as they secretly moved into the bedroom and closed the doors tight, enjoying their happy time together.
