Chapter 40: THE POLAR OPPOSITES

Mikael was supposed to attend a mass that Saturday night, just like what he usually did on normal occasion but on that particular day, he chose not to.

In fact, it was actually his schedule to do the bible service at the nearby university chapel that night. Yet because that same day also happened to be the day that Santina was celebrating her birthday, Mikael decided to rush over her place for dinner.

As expected, the drive from his place going to Santina's was as heavy as ever. The traffic was one thing but the undisciplined drivers along the way were what wore Mikael's patience thin the most.

He could no longer recall how many times he had almost been sideswiped by other vehicles as they tried to squeeze past him.

Just like any of the other normal motorists who had gone irate after being stuck at the road for who knew how long already, Mikael also pounded the horn with the heel of his palm.

By observing his conduct alone, no one would ever suspect him to be a soon to be a man of the cloth.

"Sometimes, I really wonder to myself what made me choose this calling? This conduct of mine was truly unbecoming for someone who is aspiring to be a clergyman."

Mikael thought to himself as he shook his head. At that exact moment, Santina once again crossed his mind.

He and the other party was truly a polar opposite. One was intense and almost had a volatile temperament, whilst the other was surprisingly gentle and simply compassionate in nature.

Truth be told, there were times when Mikael also found himself wondering how the two of them become friends in the first place?

Unlike him, Santina was far calmer when it came down to dealing with things, things such as driving for example.

Despite how heavy the traffic was, the other party could still wear a smile on her face without ceasing and what was even more surprising was the fact that she could still become calmer than how she already was once the traffic turned worst.

Whenever traffic hit the road, Santina would usually start tinkering with the playlists of her beloved BTS songs, if there was no one playing yet. Then she would start analyzing the finer points of the music itself; the way the artist performed it as well as the soundtrack added on it

She surely had a core of quietness installed inside her and it was something that Mikael found rather envious about Santina. Often times Mikael hoped he could have that same ready access to peace just like her.

But the reality was quite harsh because Mikael was Santina's complete opposite on almost everything. He was blunt to the point of occasional abrasiveness. It was for that same reason why he rarely had friends even way back when he was still working in the police department.

In fact, Sebastian, Santina's late fiancee was actually one of the very few close friends that he had yet as cruel as his fate was, the universe did not allow the other party to live a long life and he died at an early age of twenty-four.
