THE POOR BODY

A body of a child emerged from the sea of garbage and it laid motionless on a supine position, face planted on the dirt.

It was a boy and if Anton would solely base it in the built of the body, the child could be roughly around eight to ten years old of age.

But knowing well enough that most of the children in that area were relatively small even when they were already on their teens.

As in very small in stature, mostly because of malnutrition which was just among one of the common things in the area mainly due to their poor lifestyle and diet; it would be hard for anyone, let alone for Anton to exactly gauge the age of the child just by the size of its body alone.

The poor boy was lying face down and was wearing nothing at all from head to toe.

Also, the putrid smell coming from the decomposing corpse hung heavy in the air, to the point that it had now become the dominant smell

Likewise, countless flies that were as big as the size of one's fingernail could also be seen buzzing and feasting around the body.

Anton, the same fine-looking man who had been with the kids all day as they uncovered the body of the dead child broke into a cold sweat upon the sight of the tragedy hidden on that particular dumpsite.

He did not speak, nor the other kids. Everyone fell silent It was as though someone had plunged all them into dead silence

For some reason, Anton found that the neighborhood sounds, as well as the sounds of the traffic from the highway, had dwindled into a strange low rumble in his own ears.

The other party tried to observe the body of the child from afar to see if the body has any visible signs of wounds but he saw nothing.

He knew that if he wanted to see more and at least identify who the poor victim was, then he had to turn the body over to be able to see its face.

Yet at the same time, Anton was also afraid to touch the corpse or get near it at all.

But who could he expect to do the deed if not him? It was not like he could ask a child to do it in his stead, right?

So left with no other choice, Anton inched a little closer to the body. Then using the same stick that he used before, he slid its other end just beneath the chest part of the body and used some careful maneuver to turn the corpse over.

The stick almost broke the into two in the process, but thankfully it did not.

When Anton managed to finally flip the body over, they were all once again horrified by the sight that greeted them.

For a moment, he thought that the time had frozen. In fact, it seemed to him that moment that it was as though the whole world itself had fallen silent as well.

Once more, all the incoherent noises at the background that were coming from the traffic nearby were suddenly muted.

The torso appeared to be moving and it took some time before Anton was able to make sense how in the hell was that even possible to happen.

Upon careful observation, he found out that it was the maggots that made it looked as though the body was heaving up and down.

Thousands of maggots had already started to feast on the dead child's body and there were simply too many of them that just the sight of it alone was enough to give its onlooker goosebumps.

If one would also take a closer look at the body, one would notice that the upper part of the body also has gaping wounds.

NO!

Rather than calling it wounds, it was more appropriate to actually call it a hole. Holes that were punched straight to the chest and stomach area of the poor victim.
