Chapter 43: Chapter 42
Ellie subconsciously rubbed her head where the pain had been as she asked what had happened.
"What on earth is going on? What happened to me? Why did I forget?"
Remy grabbed her hand and pulled it to his lips kissed it gently and spoke softly.
"What do you remember from the moment you went upstairs?" he looked tenderly into her eyes as if he was sorry to make her recount her pain.
Ellie explained everything from the woman her words and the pain she felt. As she was explaining her pain both Asmodious and Remy winced and recoiled. Then Ellie recalled waking up and not even remembering her own name. As soon as she finished explaining Asmodious left the room in a hurry.
"Where is he going?" Ellie asked in a panic
"I'm not sure. Don't worry let's just wait patiently for his return. "
Ellie didn't know when but she had dosed off in Remys arms. Asmodious gently shook her awake. When she came round he gave her a drink and offered her food. After eating and drinking Asmodious let out a sigh.
"So... after going over everything you said and explained I have come to several conclusions. After going through my library to double check a few things it seems my fears have been confirmed and things are much worse than anticipated...."
Ellie scoffed how could things be worse?
"Ellie I'm sorry. You have lived your whole life bring the target of magic and not knowing where you came from. If I had payed closer attention to what happened to you as you grew up I could have prevented all of this..."
Asmodious bowed his head in shame. He couldn't believe how much he had let her down. His selfishness to keep her close had blinded him to the fact that he had always suspected where she came from and her true identity. Was now the time to tell her what fate had in store? Or would it be best to run and hide so she would never have to face what awaited her. In the end he would give her the choice.
"There are two paths before you Ellie. The first is wrought with pain and suffering but you would finally know everything about yourself and where you came from but you would also need to accept the fate and burdens that came with that knowledge. The other is of secrecy and isolation, I will hide and protect you but you can never know the truth of why as it would put you in danger. Choosing the second path you would be alone with only Remy by your side and constantly on the run. I can no longer choose your life for you so I place the responsibility in your hands..."
Ellie considered what Asmodious was saying. After some thought she came to a decision. It was time to end all this.
"I choose fate...."
