The night passed without incident. Although it was a restless sleep at least she slept. Ellie awoke to someone rustling in the kitchen. She got up, washed and dressed and left her room. Remy was sitting at the table with two plates and two glasses of orange juice. When he noticed Ellie he gestured for her to sit. Ellie smiled at him and they both ate their breakfast in silence. Ellie cleared the table and washed the dishes.
"I think it would be wise to teach you self defence. " Remy said
"Does that mean fighting?" she said.
"Yes. I won't always be by your side and we have idea what the future holds so it's best if at least you can protect yourself physically."
Ellie thought about it and nodded her agreement. Together they cleaned up and Remy cleared a space in the living room. They began with basic techniques and worked hard through the morning. She missed Miranda scolding her and her teachings. All the little things that hadn't seemed important in the past suddenly became the most important to her and she hoped that she could return to those moments again in the future. Remy put his arms around her to comfort her and gently stroked her hair. Ellie cried into his chest. She felt embarrassed but couldn't stop. Her sobbing subsided and turned into hiccups.
"hic..thank you..hic.."
Remy handed her a tissue and she wiped her face. They called it a day early and Ellie went to her room to lie down. With the red sun setting in the distance plunging the room in a bloody glow Ellie fell asleep in her clothes and it was the first restful sleep she had in a while...
