Chapter 31: Chapter 30
"The void is a gateway to the darklands. I'm unsure how much of our history you know of, but I'll assume not much.... Thousands of years ago our country was in the stranglehold of auralites. These creatures possessed the ability to drain magic from others with the stronger ones being able to absorb life essence. They lived for chaos and destruction. Darkness followed in their wake consuming all. No one knew anything about the darkness or how it came to be, but it corrupted everything it touched and good people became monsters. Only a few were able to stave off the darkness but their numbers dwindled rapidly. Until one day a strong lunar dragon used the power of the moon and his very life to seal the auralites and all who had fallen to the darkness into a void. Thus the darklands were formed. The descendants of that lunar dragon are what make up our monarchy. They are the guardian's and also the last line of defence against the void. Their power is above any others, and although it has been a long time since anyone has carried the lunar gene they can still hold against the dark. The lunar gene was an anomaly of the great dragon and only one of his bloodline would ever be able to carry it but since his children no one else ever has...Do you follow so far?"
Ellie nodded she was trying to soak in everything that Remy was telling her but she didn't understand what this had to do with her.
"On your hand there are two symbols because you have recieved blessings. Blessings are a claim on your soul. Only dragons can bestow them but only certain people can receive the blessings and each person capable of receiving has not only a very strong life essence but a great potential for magic, equal to the monarchy. But here's the thing...each person can only receive one it is impossible to receive anymore than that..."
He looked at her hands and Ellie looked at them. She had two...
"The sun belongs to someone powerful, who wants to protect you from danger but you have only recently accepted it, meaning that your heart began to accept that person and you accepted their protection which is the same as a binding contract. That person has an obligation to stand by your side since they offered it to you." He shifted uncomfortably. "But this moon is not a contract, this is a forced blessing meaning it's been with you all your life since birth. It conceals and changes colour which means it's fighting for control or....."
"Or what...? Tell me please Remy" Ellie begged.
"The black moon is a symbol of the void. It's why Asmodious thought you were being targeted by the void. But this is much more serious. This is a blessing meaning someone is trying to claim you, although we are unsure why. But we are sure that this being is from the void, if they manage to claim you as their own it could create a bridge between our world and theirs....." His voice trailed off.
"You mean they could escape the void by using me somehow??" Ellie's voice trembled.
"It's possible."
Ellie clenched her fists. How could this be. She didn't have any magic. She wasn't special. She lived her life in seclusion until she came of age. Why?? Why was this happening. A sudden thought occurred to Ellie that she hadn't noticed earlier..
"Wait, You said the sun belonged to someone powerful who made a promise to me and the only reason it appeared was because I accepted them in my heart? What does that mean? And how can i tell who it is.?"
Remy sighed, then laughed.
"Haha it's not what you think... When I said you accepted them in your heart what I meant was your heart is the source of magic, meaning in order to accept the magic of another, or receive a blessing it is done through the heart. I don't mean you love them or anything that's nonsense. As for your protector they carry the same mark as you on their body meaning you can always identify them." He smiled at her.
Ellie blushed, of course that's not what it meant how could she be so foolish.
"But that still doesn't tell me who it is...." Ellie grumbled
"Oh...isn't it obvious who it is"
Ellie shook her head.
"It's me.."
