Chapter 30: Chapter 29
Ellie watched from the window as Asmodious walked away into the rising Sun and eventually out of view. She hid her face as tears began to fall. She didn't understand shy this was happening to her. Ellie had always lived her life by doing her best and following the rules but now it felt like she was being punished. Asmodious had left she didn't know what he was doing, she was worried about Miranda and the boys too. Her family had left. She was alone. A bang brought her out of her self pity. Her eyes fell upon Remy. He had his back to her but he was doing something. He turned round with two plates with food in his hands and placed them at the table.
"Come have something to eat. You are probably still struggling to get your head around things. Come eat and you can ask me questions. I will do my best to answer them."
Ellie hesitated. Her eyes were swollen and itchy. She felt her tummy grumble, it was a while since she had eaten. She sat at the table and they ate in silence. Remy stood and went to the sink. He ran the faucet and returned handing her a cold, wet rag.
"Here. For your eyes"
Ellie was shocked. She smiled gently at him and placed the cold rag over her eyes. Sweet relief. The swelling began to ease and the itching reduced. The awkwardness between them grew until Ellie could no longer stand it.
"So...You said I could ask anything...What happened to Miranda and the boys?" Ellie knew they were probably at the academy but needed something to break the tension.
"The boys are at the academy and Miranda has went to stay with family." He replied whilst scratching his head.
A sudden realisation dawned upon her. No one had actually explained what was going on or where Asmodious had went. How could she have been so slow that she only realised it now.
" Can you explain what's happening to me and where Asmodious went?"
Remy looked her up and down assessing whether to tell her everything or not. He sighed finally deciding to tell her their suspicions.
"First of all Asmodious has went to find the king. He doesn't actually live in his castle so it may take some time to locate him then arrange an audience with him. Secondly I can't tell you exactly what's going on as we don't fully know I can only tell you what we suspect at this point."
Ellie let his words sink in. Even.they didn't know what was going on but it was serious enough to involve the monarchy which meant the expected it to be really bad.
"So..." Remy continued " when we mentioned the void to you we didn't explain what the void actually is..."
