Chapter 23: Chapter 22
"The void?" she asked. Ellie racked her brains but couldn't think if anything, she had never heard of it before.
"I would be surprised if you had heard anything about it. Let's just say it's something to be wary of, especially for you. I won't say too much about it as it's unnecessary but if you hear anyone mention it please tell me or Remy straight away as it is important. "
Ellie mulled over what Asmodious was saying and agreed.
"Now take the rest of the day to relax and spend time with your brothers, they have missed you and will be old enough to join the academy soon so you won't get to see them much."
"Is that all? I thought you said you had a task to ask of me? Is it just to let you know if I hear people mention the void?" she was confused. He had made it sound more serious than that.
"Yes that is all." Ellie recognised his tone as dismissing her, she stood and said goodbye and left to fund her brothers.
"Are you not going to tell her the truth?" Remys voice came from the sofa as he slowly sat up.
"There is no need to put her in more danger. If she knew the truth about everything I fear she may not understand. Which could lead to fear. I want to keep her safe for as long as possible, even if it means lying to her."
"You go to great lengths to protect her, if one day she knows the truth she may not thank you for it, in fact she may blame and even hate you. Are you prepared for that?"
"If it keeps her safe I will gladly be hated by her. You must keep your promise too. You must watch over her and tell her nothing." Asmodious tone was determined.
"I saw the darkness surrounding her myself and said nothing at that time. I sensed it following her in the street threatening to engulf her and still said nothing. Do you doubt I will keep my word?" Remy was angry.
"I don't doubt you. I must quickly find the source. This darkness must come from the void. No one must know about it."
"Other than me no one else will be able to see that darkness because no one else has ever been tainted by it." he subconsciously rubbed his shoulder, where that horrendous mark had been left.
Asmodious looked at Remy he was thankful to have him here.
"I must return to the manor. I've left my idiot brother there on his own a bit too long, I fear what I will return to." Remy said. He nodded at Asmodious and left.
Asmodious sat alone in his study thinking of all that had happened over the past week. They had discovered it was darkness not magic that pursued Ellie which meant she had the blood of a dragon running through her veins. Although how she had no characteristics of being dragonborne was still a mystery. Finding this out only led to more questions with even less answers. Darkness is born of the void which feeds on magical energy in the blood. The only blood strong enough to contain such energy is dragon blood. But Ellie has no magic. Asmodious let out a long sigh and rubbed his temples. Thinking about this was giving him a headache. He would investigate this matter quietly, there were few he could trust and dragon blood is very rare. If others found out it could lead to danger for Ellie. Asmodious shook those terrible thoughts from his head, he would not allow any harm to befall her even if it cost him his life.
