Chapter 21: Chapter 20

Despite the foreboding feeling she had Ellie walked with James without looking back. Maybe it was the lack of rest or all the excitement she had that she was just expecting something bad. That's right it was all in her head, if it was something important surely they would have said something to her, after all she was an adult now. James was staring at her as they walked. He knew something was on her mind but his brother had warned him not to say anything unnecessary to her. He would wait. If she asked he would answer, his brother couldn't blame him then. They walked in silence until they reached the wall. Ellie had been so preoccupied that she had forgot to ask James those questions. Oh well, he hadn't said anything to her so it was probably nothing. She decided to just let it go. As they walked through the gate Severus stood there. He looked a lot paler than yesterday. He glanced at them and flinched, quickly turning his head and slithering away to the shadows. Ellie followed him with her eyes. Strange, he was acting scared. Ellie noticed James staring at him too with the same curious expression.

"Whats wrong with him?" he said.

"I don't know he ran like that yesterday too after your brother spoke to him" Ellie replied.

"Wait...Remy spoke to him?...Remy actually uttered words to him instead of ignoring him?"

Ellie looked at James confused. Why wouldn't he talk to him? This was confusing. James noticed Ellie's expression.

"My brother isn't a people person. People are scared of him and he has quite the temper too. He's reffered to, by people who don't know him, as a demon because he has an aura of death, just because he spent a lot of time on a battlefield when he was younger. He doesn't talk to people at all. So why did he speak to Severus...?"

Ellie thought about what James was saying. She remembered how people stared and gasped and whispered when they saw the two of them together as they were leaving the manor, she had just dismissed it as them doing what they had done to her all day and never gave it another thought. But looking back perhaps it was strange seeing him with someone, especially given James description.

"I've never felt an aura of death from him and he's a bit blunt but I don't think he's mean or a demon."

James laughed.

"I think you are probably the only person to ever think such a thing."

He shook his head as they went inside. After that the day passed by quickly, Ellie followed the old woman, did as she was told and ignored the others. Her days went on like that for over a week, she barely spoke to James and never encountered Remy again. Miranda waited each evening for her and she slept just to do the same thing the next day. The biggest thing was she hadn't seen Asmodious at all during this time, but Miranda had made it clear not to ask anything on the matter. After a week madam Vesser spoke to Ellie out of the blue after they had finished cleaning the rooms.

"Tomorrow I'm going to start integrating you with the others now that they are used to your presence, that way you can learn more and even make some friends. How does that sound?"

Ellie's eyes lit up

"I would love that very much, thank you."

"Then we will start tomorrow."
