Flick Village, a tiny village where everyone knew one another. If something happened in the morning to one of the villagers in the afternoon of the same day everyone would already know about it. This kind of village existed throughout the BrownWater Province as most of the poor population couldn't afford the way of life of the main cities so most of the population decided to live in the countryside.
These types of villages had basically all the necessary facilities to give the population all the support they needed, so basically the villagers could live happily only if they work hard. But different from the other days, this one, in particular, seemed to be a bringer of bad news since due to the warm weather that made BrownWater Province famous today was installed a terrible storm, bringing fear to the population along with rumors of being caused by evil spirits.
............
In the dark streets of Flick Village, a figure in a cloak carrying something was running searching for something. The figure didn't stop until it reached one of the most basic facilities a village most have, a church. Maybe because of the running and the strong winds and rain, the figure became a young woman that seemed to carry a baby. The woman stopped at the door of the church without any intention of knocking at the door.looked with affection at the child in her arms but also with a tinge of fear.
"You can count yourself lucky. If that woman had found you, she would have killed you." The woman spoke slowly as if to mark her words into the child in hopes that the newborn child would understand her. she crouched down and slowly placed the child the steps of the door.
"Perhaps you will resent me for leaving you all alone without any family but I only want you to know that me, your mother, would do and give everything so that we would have a slight chance of surviving. But that women would never let me go after that so my only option was to run away with you!" The woman talked to the baby slowly but as the more, she spoke the louder her voice became, and in the end, she was screaming and crying.
The baby looked at the woman crying without any thought of what was really happened so he was smiling all the time. The woman seeing the baby smile she also forced a smile as she knew the time to part ways was here. She leaned forward and kissed the forehead of the child.
"I love you, Lance! Mother will always love you!" The woman whispered at the child as she knocked at the door with all the strength she could muster. Then without looking back, she began to run away from the child as darkness consumed her without leaving any trace of her passage.
After some time the wood door of the church opened revealing an old man with a cane. The old man seemed confuses as he looked around searching for the one that knocked the door but seeing no one he frowned with discontent while at the same time he turned around to head inside. Right, when he was about to close the door he heard a loud cry coming from the entrance. He opened the door abruptly and looked downward where he saw the newborn with nothing but a scarf around him and a piece of paper. He quickly picked up the child with fear that he would get sick and headed inside.
The church was a very humble church with only a few benches for people to attend the mass and worship their gods. Most people focused on one God most of their life and that God was almost always one of the Five Ancient Gods. The Sun God, that people prayed for protection against disease and dark forces; the Moon Goddess, people prayed for a next chance of seeing the next day and for a chance at redemption; the Forest God, most hunters prayed for this one so that they can have a prosperous hunt; the War God, the god worshipped by most of the warfare dedicated nations and soldiers; and the Seer Goddess, this one, in particular, was one that most explorers and adventurers worshipped in hopes of safe guidance and a safe return.
The man looked at the child only to be astonished at the sight of the child looking at him with limpid eyes, seemingly without a shred of clouding. The baby with golden hair and golden eyes showed no sign of fear or happiness as it looked at the unfamiliar sight only curiosity. The more he looked at the baby the more he thought the baby was not a baby but something else.
After some time gazing at the baby he snapped out of his trance and took the baby towards his quarters. There he rapidly arranged a makeshift crib for the baby. After cleaning his forehead, he gasped in relief after finding out that after only a few seconds after he put the baby gently on the makeshift crib he was already deep in sleep.
Gazing at the peaceful face of the baby, his heart also felt at ease. Seeing that the blanket that was around the baby was still wet and because of the hurry he didn't find out sooner he slapped his head in frustration. While removing the blanket gently, afraid of awakening the sleeping baby, he noticed that a piece of paper was also wrapped inside of the blanket.
The man took and the paper and silently whispered after reading it, while gently stroking the head of the baby.
"So your name is Lance..."
.............................
Meanwhile, Lance was feeling a bit strange. He had awareness but couldn't feel anything. He couldn't help but think that this was perhaps what people in a coma felt. This line of thought was broken by the crying words of a woman and the gentle sentence of a man and while silently digesting these events, a sudden thought, and realization stroke him at the same time.
"It seems that the explosion on the laboratory caused a space-time singularity that somehow transported my soul to somewhere else and perhaps by coincidence or divine intervention his name was the same."
This realization made him feel hopeful and very thankful for a next chance in life and also couldn't help but feeling a bit expectant by what place was this.
