Chapter 5: Time off

Clinton Cole Ritter, he was a man with such a sad bringing up. His father was strict and worked him hard every day. While his mother would try and make him look like a girl.

You see Clinton in this world was a unisex name, meaning it could be use for both male or for a femal. For poor Clinton growing up. His parents forgot what gender Clinton was and try to make him do thing accordingly, the confusion was all in his looks. He had feminine facial features while his body was more fragile and soft. This lead his mother to think he was a girl and would make him join the small women gathering.

By the time he was thirteen, his mother was in shock that Clinton was a boy. She and tried everything to confirm that he was a girl. Byt then Clinton had enough of his mother's antics and killed her.

Clinton's had tried to make him repent for what he had done, but Clinton killed him too.

Clinton had almost starved to death in a prison cell. The young duke, Arlo Van Gardiner, took him with him. Telling Clinton, "You are my knight, and from this day on, you will never falter at any of my commands. You will do anything I say no matter what, and you dar not to ever leave my side. That is what the terms of this contract holds."

Back to current time, the horse gallops have since caught up to my car. And another sword was at my throat.

I looked down to the sword more depressed than surprised. "Why is it always a sword.."

Clinton moved the sword fo show that he had a more deadly position. I looked up to see his face. He had a huge scar on his face, right over where his left eye was, but the scar was more prominent on his eyebrow. He had a second smaller scar near his nose. He still had a feminine facial structure, however the scars made it less feminine than it originally looked in the novel.

"You will release his majesty this instant!" Clinton started to demand.

"Okay, okay. But I will let you on a life secret, first."

'There is no way this would work a second time.. Right?' Oh but I just had to check.

I moved my open left hand and moved it out of my window. Pointing to the Twilight's back retractable door.

"If you pull on that leveler there. It will open by itself." I winked to let him know that I was being sincere.

He hummed, looking in between me, the duke, and the door. I guess the duke nodded because the knight put his sword away and pulled on the back door handle. And just as I promised the door opened.

Both the duke and the knight's faces lit up like a candle in a dark place. The knight climbed in to the car to see just how it worked.

"Alright! Do you want to see another magic trick, Sir knight?"

Clinton looked up and nodded his head. I looked over the duke and he was also nodding his head.

"Okay then!"

I moved my had over the close button for the left hand door, which is the one that was open. I pressed it and it started to close. Their faces were like kids in a candy shop, so emerged and had the face of awe.

I watched them both before I turned my head back to the gravel and dirt road.

"Alright onwards!" I shouted as I changed gears from parked to drive.

My car, Twilight, steadily made her was down the path going a stead 35 miles per hour. I looked back to see the Carmel haired knight trying to hide his enthusiasm. I chuckled at the silliness of the knight, and how he was still a child.

The duke looked at me, confused. But looked forward again non the less. He looked like he wanted something to say.

I moved my hand to turn down the dile for my music.

"What's on your mind Duke?" I was remaining calm and focused on the road.

He looked back at me frustrated, "What is on my mind is that, a woman thinks she can talk to me like we are on the same level!"

I could feel his anger shaking my car, and my inner clock staring to tick.

'Breath Ash. Breath.' I started to chant in my head.

"Okay look your highness. I am going to take you back to your castle." I paused for a second to think about that.

"Would it be a castle or a mansion?" I thought out loud. I shrugged and continued, "Ether one, I am taking you back to your home and then I am going to find a way back to mine."

The duke looked at me, "I knew you were a spy from another country! You have me so you can get something right? What do you want? Money? My land?"

I rolled my eyes, "Ugh no! Managing land sounds like a pain in the ass. I am going to go back to my time and my home."

Then my brain started to think a bit. I zoned out as I started to think out loud, rather quiet, but I was still speaking without me noticing.

"But what if I can't. I mean it was some kinda of magic zap thing. What if I can't go back home and I am stuck in this novel world forever." I slowly started to think about it more and zoned out a lot. My mind got fuzzy and more depressing and dark.

My car shutting off broke me out of state. The car was still in motion, everything connected engine, not battery, just turned off.

"Shit!" I shouted out loud. I turned the wheel hard to get off the road.

"What! What happened?" The duke shouted, startled. A sword wrapped around my neck from behind me.

The Carmel haired knight's chilling voice caressed my ear, "You better answer him, woman."

"My car shut off! I have to park her and wait for her to start up again!" I shouted. "Get ready for a rough landing!"

The car pulled roughly to the side of the gravelly road, and onto the grass. The Chrysler just nearly hit the tress.

I sighed turning off all of my buttons and turning all of my dials, and turned off my car. I unbuttoned my seat belt, and opened my door. I looked back to the other two. They both staired at me.

"Ugh." I climbed back into my van and pressed the open left door button. Making the door slide open.

Watching the knight's face after watching the door open, never got old.

"Ahem. My door?" The duke pointed to his door.

"Your door opens the same as mine." I hopped back out of my car. I closed the back door with my lanyard. I opened my phone and looked at the time. Almost seven thirty. I hummed and looked to my batter. It was at sixty-eight. Not a bad number.

I turned off my phone and started assess the situation.

"Camp fire." I spoke out. "We need to make a camp fire."

I turned to the woods proceding to get fire wood. But a sword to my back said something else was to be done first.

I sighed and turned around with my hands up.

"Yes your oh holyness?" I said sarcastically.

"I am not 'Holy'" The duke angrily stated.

"Ugh, it's sarcasm. Agh! What do you want?" I was hearing my clock again.

"For you to stay here with Sir Clinton. I will be getting fire wood."

My ears could hear the ticks. It got worse again.

The knight looked like he wanted to say something but didn't.

I shrugged, "Gives me something less to do. I am going to sit back in my car-" Right as I had turned to walk back to my car the knight stopped me. I turned my hunched neck to look at him with tired and 'wanting to deal with you right now' eyes. It was interesting because he had the same pair of eye but more soul piercing.

'Glad I am a red head.'

The knight leaned on a tree as I moved around in the hood of my car. I was swearing like a sailor but it was mostly incoherent mumbling. I couldn't find anything wrong with my car. The clock is boiling over with the ticking.

"Agh!" I yelled. I started to throw small tantrum. Still babbling stuff incoherently, but it was still me angry.

"Calm down."

I heard it but it was quiet, so I didn't want to respond to it.

"I command you to calm down, woman!"

My clock had hit a small point.

I turned to face the Carmel hair knight, fuming.

"Don't. Call. Me. WOMAN!" I threw the screw driver I had in my hand at his face. If he didn't dodge when he did. He would have lost and eye. Instead, it was maybe a strand of hair.

"You dare woman!" The knight began to draw his sword, but right as he placed his hand on it the royal duke came back, and with a lot of wood. I mean he cut down two pine trees.

"I got wood." The duke stated as he dropped the said wood.

I turned around, "I am going to move stuff out of the bed of my van. Can you two start a fire? Yes? Good."

I turned and proceeded to the bed of van.

A few hours later and it is nine fifty-three. My car still wouldn't start. I yelled angry into the dark small wooden area. Yelling profanities and a slew of indecent words. After words I was panting heavily next to a tree, less angry than before.

I stood there for a second. Just thinking of my situation.

'A new world. I have my car and phone. I have some magic abilities.'

My body was numb, and unfeeling to the cold air around me. I looked down to the ground at the dirt beneath me. I chuckled.

'At least that's the same. Now for where the two boys will sleep.'

I mozied my way over to the fire place. The duke seemed to be looking for a way back into my van.

I liked watching him struggle and trying to use magical commands on a machine. He even rubbed his head. I jangled my layered and doubled pressed the 'left door open' button. I laughed slightly at his amazement at the door opening by itself.

The knight watched me as I watched the duke. He was like a child. When I stopped laughing I turned to the fire and sat down, adjacent to knight Clinton.

"You and the duke will sleep in the back seat of the van. I have it all layed out and set up, it wouldn't be the most comfortable place, but its better than nothing." I shrugged as I poked the fire with a stick. I felt his eyes on me, but I found the fire more interesting.

"Alight" The Knight sighed, getting up.

I waited to hear the door close till I looked around. My eyes felt dry and heavy. A sigh escaped me, and ran free in the trees around me. I kept my eyes on the fire.

All I could think of was the head lights of the semi truck.

'No one will worry for you. Your fine by yourself. Even mom said it. It's best for you to be alone.'

That night I slept outside of my car. With my salty tears giving me the only comfort that I had, had for some time.
