Chapter 3: Chapter Three
"Summer, go help Chole in the cashier. She's not feeling very well today. " Emily's order came from the other side of the phone the moment Summer picked it up.
Others might be get disturbed because of temporary missions, but this was not for Summer. Summer was more than happy to go outside rather than sitting still for hours in front of the computer to collecting and analyzing a hell lot of data. Hence, without complaints, Summer went outside with a big smile.
"Welcome to W-Mart. Your VIP card, please?" "Thank you!" Summer used to work as a part-time cashier back to her days in college. This was simply a piece of cake for her, easy to make Summer feel sleepy after mechanically working for two hours. She yawned and stretched out both hands to refresh herself.
"So you didn't lie to me." instead of getting the VIP card, a teasing voice popped out and startled Summer who quickly positioned herself and said "welcome to W-mart" out of habit.
It is the man from the report and from the crash-making Summer relax and sigh with relief. He's wearing a black shirt, open at the collar, and black flannel pants that hang from his hips. His unruly hair is still damp, maybe because of the hot summer heat outside. He's freaking hot! He passed the canned water to Summer and stared at her.
"Ah. It's you. You have come out of the hospital. How's your hand?" Summer soon recovered from the shock. "I never lie to anyone. I'm actually a saleswoman in the supermarket."
Summer extended her right hand to take the water and her finger touched his. Summer was aware of the delicious current running right through her whole body, making her blush.
"Do you love around?" Summer asked to cover her erratic breathing which is almost audible.
"No. I'm here to see the site that Jessica picked for the new supermarket. It's right opposite. " Eric answered and gulped down the can water.
"I wondered if you would join me for a cup of coffee, Summer?" He asked with a small smile.
My heart slammed into my mouth. A coffee? A hot millionaire is asking me out for coffee. What does he want? Is it a date? But another voice in my brain tells me to stop fantasizing. He's asking if you want a coffee maybe simply because he thought you need it to refresh yourself since you were yawning and asleep. Oh wait! How did he know my name? Maybe because of the name tag pinned on my uniform.
"I'd love to but I can't. Quite busy right now." Summer said apologetically and was too nervous to look at Eric.
"When will you get off?" Eric was pushing and dominating.
The man was pushing, dominating, and stubborn. He must have something really important and emergent.
"Wait a moment." Summer went away to the office area and came out soon with another lady with the same uniform coming along.
"Let's do coffee. First-floor Starbucks, okay?"
Eric grinned but did not say a single word.
"Here's your cappuccino." Eric placed the coffee right in front of Summer and sat right opposite to her. They were sitting next to the french window in the corner. This is Summer's favorite spot. But this time, she was not in the mood to enjoy the spot. She sat still and nervously twisted her hands and fingers in front of her.
"Thank you!" Summer cleared her throat and sipped her coffee, trying to control her nerves.
"Come work for me! Be my assistant."
Summer was choked by his words. She quickly put down the cup and buried her face in her hands, trying to stop coughing. Eric seemed quite satisfied with her reaction, calmly took out some tissues from the box on the table, and handed them to Summer.
"Thank you. But what? " Summer took the tissue from his hand to clean her face and said.
"Come work for me. It's the new supermarket right opposite. You can be promoted to be my assistant and get tripled salaries."
"Is it a reward for the crash?"
"Kind of and I really need someone to help me with the new supermarket now, in particular someone from our competitor."
