Chapter 57: It's weird
Lu Sheng felt hopeless and irritated at the thought of Jane's memory might be wiped off by her father.
He sighed and waved his hand at Jane. "Forget it."
Sitting with his leg crossed together, he reached into his suit pocket to take out his cigarette.
Seeming to have forgotten that he is in the airport with closed ventilated air, he took out one cigarette from the box and put it in his mouth.
His secretary rushed towards him and whispered to his ear urgently.
Lu Sheng quickly took out the cigarette from his mouth and he cleared his throat. The air surrounding them immediately felt like it has dropped for about 1-2 degrees Celcius.
"It's okay. I am not going to smoke." Lu Sheng spoke softly to his assistant in Mandarin.
Ever since Lu Sheng asked Jane about weird occurrences during her stay in the inner courtyard, Jane has been frowning her face more.
'Did I forget something?'
'If I think about it more, life seems a lot smoother and I am a lot happier when I stayed in the inner courtyard.'
"Well, to answer your question, probably life is too smooth in the courtyard, that I can't seem to recall any weird occurrences at all. You know, human minds will not remember things in detail that they do routinely, but instead, if it is a painful memory, they will remember it forever? Probably I am enjoying my self there so much to notice anything weird."
Jane suddenly straightened her posture and she widens her eyes as she stared at Lu Sheng. "Wait, weird occurrence? I do remember a time when father's disciple keeps coming over to our home and delivers messages on behalf of dad. He always said that 'Master sent me here, Missy, to watch over you'... and I am always startled whenever he showed himself up. What I mean is, he did not come over from the entrance, instead, he just popped up whenever and wherever he wants. I am not sure though, if he came into my house in a normal way or not, because father's disciple all practice the martial qi art, so obviously their steps are light enough for me not to hear anything, right?" Tilting her head in a questioning way, Jane looked at her brother. She waited expectantly for her brother's answer.
A couple of minutes passed, Lu Sheng still sat on the seat next to her and played with the cigarette that is dangling on his mouth without saying anything. He just sat there, blinking his eyes lazily as he stares at a crying toddler on the other side of the departure gate.
Feeling rather impatient with her brother's stoic expression, Jane shifted her body, facing Lu Sheng. She almost put a hand on her brother's arm to grab his attention, but quickly halted her actions from doing so.
Instead of holding on her brother's arm, Jane drop her hand onto her thigh and lowered her head to observe her brother's expression closely. "Does this count as weird occurrences to you?"
Lu Sheng stared at her coldly and didn't budge an inch. He stretched his hand and put it across Jane's seat.
Before Jane could react, Lu Sheng patted her shoulder softly, and said "What do you think, Sis? Your family is not normal enough, to begin with..."
Jane's body turned rigid with the pat from Lu Sheng.
Her complexion became pale in an instant. She took Lu Sheng's reply as a conformance that what she has just said before, was indeed one of the weird occurrences.
"You, you... if you want to act close and familiar with me, can you give me some warning first? I, I thought you wanted to hurt me..."
Lu Sheng looked at her with a smile. In his eyes, Jane could see a little bit of sadness drifting in. "Huh? Since when have I ever hurt you before? Did you think I would hurt you for no reason?"
Jane looked up and stared at Lu Sheng's eyes. Her nervous heart calmed down as she did not see any murderous gaze in it.
"Just now, you keep on reminding me about no funny business and stuff. So, I thought you are here today to bring me back by force..."
"Well, actually, I have to use some force on you if you won't come back to China with me." Lu Sheng patted Jane's shoulder a bit more.
"If you are this obedient, of course, I won't hurt you..."
Lu Sheng word struct Jane's heart in realization.
"Ah, so you are good to me just because I am obedient and did not put up a fight?"
Lu Sheng nodded his head and his lips curled into a snickers. "If you do put up a fight, I still won't be harsh on you. After all, you are my sister and the mother to the future leader of Lu Clan."
Jane could feel that if she is not his sister, and if her daughters were all as useless as her, probably Lu Sheng would have killed her if she did anything that angers him.
"Relax, I'm a person who never likes to make trouble out of nothing..." Lu Sheng smiled at Jane and shifted his gaze to look over the frightened Suzy.
Suzy blinked her wide eyes a few times at the smiling Lu Sheng. She hesitated at first, but she started to warm up a bit to her uncle and gave a slight smile to him when she did not sense any danger from her uncle.
Lu Sheng smiles widen and his smile felt genuine enough to Suzy.
"Once we get back to China, Father will take Suzy with him for a few months for testing. If she passed, she will stay and will live like royalty."
Glancing at the frozen Jane, Lu Sheng continued. "Don't worry, if she did not pass the test, Father will not do anything to your family. At most, he will probably force your other daughter Lucy to come back to China."
"Why, can't you just take us all to China together? Why separate us all? Lucy is Father's granddaughter too." Jane asked Lu Sheng desperately.
After all the talks with Lu Sheng, she can conclude that both her father and Lu Sheng meant no harm to happen to them even though they forced her to come back to China with Suzy.
If they insist on conducting the martial qi test on Suzy and the incoming apocalypse meant nothing to them, surely they have something that can protect themselves in that disaster.
If they already have a solution to survive the disaster together, why can't her family reunited and face this disaster together?
Lu Sheng kept quiet and acted as if he did not hear Jane's question.
Suddenly a flight attendant stood up and opened the gate to the sky bridge.
"Come on. Let's go." Lu Sheng urged Jane on his side and he stood up.
His secretary and attendants quickly picked up Jane's and Suzy's backpack and lead them into the bridge.
