Chapter 39: The discussion 2
"My name is Dubois, I am the Chief Engineer for the Project Pod House, or in short, I like to call it PHods."
Dubois clicked the remote, and the 3D design of the PHods started rotating, on the white projector screen.
"There will be several types of Pods, one is used for transporting humans, the second would be the facilities; that the people will use during their time in space, and lastly is the Pod that carry supplies; such as food, water, clothing, and other necessities."

Dubois looks at the audience once again to see their response before continuing his speech.
Pausing his speech, Dubois picked up the remote and change to the design section.
"As you can see, this is not a normal satellite, it is way bigger. Its size, is only enough for the people to sleep in, and the crews will occupy a certain area of the space. Thus, whoever is claustrophobic, would not be able to go on this explorations."

Explosives of discussion were heard among the leaders. They were shocked by how tiny the space allocated to them.
They are going to stay up there for years?? No way!
Dubois was expecting this kind of reaction from the leader. From the earlier look the leaders gave, when they were arguing with each other to be the leader, Dubois has some expectations, that they are not clear on what is the situation once they are in space.
"It is not a luxury to travel to space. This is not a Sci-Fi movie, where you got all the futuristic pieces of equipment, and live easily. If we are going to build huge facilities that are similar to ISS, it would take us more than 10 years to build... But for the pods, 2 months is possible.
"The people who got the privilege to be transported to space must be fit enough to survive the harsh environment of outer space. There will times when the pods will experience solar storms, there will be times when the Pods will need maintenance, and they are required to wear the spacesuit at all times. So... I am sure, not everyone here is eligible to make the space travel. Unfortunately."
Dubois smiled cynically at the audience, who are also the leaders of a nation, when he said the statement.
What, they thought since they are somebody, they will be the first to be considered to be sent to space? Erm, that might not be the case...
Some of the leaders, were enraged when they heard Dubois explanations. The project that they put high hopes on to ensure their safety during the disaster strikes, somehow has become a less viable solution to them.
Most of the leaders were obese and aging man, with many underlying diseases. If they are going to space, forget about surviving for years up there, they might die during the rocket launch itself.
Some of the more sensible leaders spoke up. "Its fine, Mr. Dubois. I am aware, of my own condition. It is better if a healthy young man who makes the space travel. I will preserver here, on earth."
The environment of the senate room suddenly turned solemn. Most of the leaders of the Nations that were there looks like a death penalty has befallen upon them.
Space, is one of the promising ideas for the survival of humankind. If they could stay in space for a period of time, or at least until the natural disasters on the earth have stops threatening their lives, the percentage of survival would be higher.
After they have spent some time in space, they would be back to earth again and starts a new life, but now, they were told, they are not qualified to make space travel.
It is a death sentence, even before they are convicted...
"Due to the time constraints, every launchpad that is available around the world will need to be fully utilized during these 2 months that we have. I will encourage that the deployment of every probe, oxygen supply, or spare parts or anything that is deemed necessary, are to be transported to the space earlier; while the Pods are still in production. We have to stretch every resource that we have in these 2 months that we still have to live on earth. "
The environment is the room turns heavier as Dubois continues his speech. They finally have resigned to their fate, that, they only have 2 months left to be living on earth.
"We are estimating that the Earth would be in a dire state for at least a few years. Probably due to the volcano eruptions, many nuclear power plants will contaminate the ground and surroundings with radiation. Even if the people manage to survive the apocalypse, I am afraid that once they came back to earth, they will die to the lack of resources or they die because of the radiation and toxicity."

The audience let out sounds of agreement and someone even breath in frustration.
The earth has a lot of things that are dangerous to the surroundings. All these while, the chemicals, radioactive materials have been properly contained.
If the natural disaster strikes, and destroys every protective containment they put around the material... an unimaginable thing will befall upon every living thing on earth.
If only all of the dangerous 'items' to be destroyed properly first before the Earth decided to destroy it for them.
They might have a better chance of survival on Earth if the environment condition is much susceptible to living things.
"Thus, it is crucial for us to bring along the "Earth restarting kit". This kit, will be in the last pod that they will unlock when they decided that it is time to go back home... In this kit, we will put everything that can be used to grow and breed the living things, once they are back on Earth again. There will be labs, and nutrients needed to supply the earth to restart again. This of course, no one knows what will the earth looks like after the disaster stops."
Dubois's explanation was well received as most of the audience agree wholeheartedly to deploy the ' Earth restarting kit'.
The earth the knew might not be the same again after this. All hopes will be on the Earth restarting kit after this.
