Chapter 37: They are prepared
As Lucy walks towards Mike's room, she bypassed a corridor that leads to the monitoring and control room.
Lucy stops on her track, and she peered her head in the corridor.
The corridor was mostly guarded and protected with guards, but today, it seems today is an exception as there is not even one guard that is guarding the doors.
"Hah, that's weird..."
With the determination to find out every secret inside the bunker, Lucy found this incident as inviting...
"So tempting, don't mind if I do..." Lucy walked along the corridor while looking left and right cautiously.
Rubbing both of her palms together, Lucy walked along the door and tried to open every door she passed.
"Come on, not even one door is not locked?" Lucy has gotten impatient as she almost walked to the end of the corridor.
Lucy continued her exploration until she heard someone's talking. Lucy quickly walked towards the sound came from and hide in the dark to eavesdrop.
The man sound's mad, as he keeps speaking in a high pitched voice.
"It's Mike... what is he mad about?" Speaking alone softly, Lucy continued to eavesdrop.
To Lucy, everything that Mike has said sounds fishy. It deserves to be pondered upon, and not to be neglected.
"Great, I have told you before this, but they never listened, Jeff! Jeff, please... for the sake of humanity, please, please, please... talk to them again. Persuade them if you have too. My calculation is right, I am sure of it. Within two months, every single volcano in this world will erupt!"
"..."
"We can still save them, I am sure, that every country has some secret projects, a bunker, a shelter, a safe house, or, or if that is still too much, an underground tunnel that can withstand shocks about 8 or more magnitude is good enough. Ask them, ask them, to seek shelter there..."
Mike's voice slowly died down at the end of his speech. He sounds desperate, pleading for the guy named Jeff to help him.
It's been almost a minute that no one responded to Mike's plea.
'Wait, Mike mention about every single volcano on earth is going to erupt?! Raymond only mentioned about the volcanos in Alaska... Not the whole world!'
Lucy is pissed. So pissed. She almost runs to Mike and shouts to him not to be stupid.
If Jeff is not helping him to deliver the news, then he can help himself to spread the news to the world. There are various social media in this world, youtube, Facebook, and what not can be used to warn the people.
'Lies, again with all the lies! How much longer are they hiding all this stuff? The people are not that stupid!'
"..."
Mike was suffering. He felt the silence that Jeff gave him, was like a punishment, for running away from his responsibility to others.
"Mike, to tell you the truth, NASA has sent out news, that they are working with the people from every country in the world to discuss bout this matter. I am not supposed to tell you all this since you decided to seek shelter in the bunker, but as a friend, and I think that you are not totally shrinking from responsibilities as they said...
"I can only tell you, that everything will be fine. They have sorted it out. They have decided to unite, and send out some pods or something to orbit the earth. Its, its... hard to tell you in here, I need you to get out from the bunker, and go to the USGS building in Alaska to retrieve the info. "
Jeff explained to Mike calmly. He knows that he is not supposed to, but he knows that Mike meant well.
There are plans, that are being carried out to save humanity. Finally, the Nations are united to save the humankind.
"Oh my god, thank god! Finally, finally a progress. Thanks Jeff, for giving me a second chance. I'll head to the office soon. I-I am sorry. Previously, I did not think through..."
"No, no. I know you meant good. It's okay, it's fine. Your research and findings on the earth's core are helping the world to draft solutions. And I know if all this gets out, then it will get out of hand. We can't afford the chaos. We can't think of anything if everyone is panicking. I understand. Don't be too hard on yourself."
Mike's sobs were heard when he heard Jeff's reply. He is grateful, that people like Jeff are his friend.
Mike did not say anything afterward, he just continues to sobs on the line.

Lucy thinks that she has heard enough, so she walks away, feeling dejected.
As she walks to her room, Lucy kept thinking about what she has heard from Mike and Jeff's conversation.
Sitting on the sofa in her living room, Lucy tried to piece every information she heard from Jeff's word.
It looks like I just heard of something confidential."

"orbit the earth."
Lucy mumbles the words repeatedly, as she tries to make a relation between the two keywords.
"The only thing that I knew that can orbit the earth is the moon, and... yes, a satellite!"
Lucy slams down the phone that she has been holding onto the coffee table. She is excited!
A project lead by NASA to shuttle people out of the earth, but to live by orbiting the earth just like a satellite do.
It's a great idea!!
If the people are going to die from a volcanic eruption, from every single volcano in the world, then it is still possible to make use of the gravitational pull of the earth and use the satellites as a means of survival.
So far, a satellite can stay up there for at least decades, if there are enough modifications done to the design, it is possible to make them stay up there for up to a hundred years.
They can stay up there with all the food and supplies until the Earth is safe to live again, then they will come back to earth to start a new civilization.
A hundred years is more than enough of waiting for all of the disasters to pass. Although, the earth may not be the same after that, but they probably can manage to start living again...
They might survive this apocalypse if the plan was to shuttle the people out to space.
It is going to be a new civilization on Earth after a hundred years.
"A post-apocalyptic world. Interesting..." Lucy smiled bleakly when she thinks bout the future.
