Chapter 32: The hidden danger

Jason sits inside his Hummer with a cigarette on his hands. Puffing out the smokes, Jason's mind started to ponder, on Mike's word, before he boarded his plane to Alaska. A lot of things have happened around the world, while he hides away in Alaska.

'You might want to say your goodbye...'

"Well, is this what you mean by goodbye, Mike?" Jason said out loud suddenly.

Jason has driven by himself to the Airport. He did not ask his sub-ordinate to drive him here purposely to have a one to one chat with his friend, Mike.

Looking up at his watch for the tenth time, Jason sighed, it will be any minute now, Mike's plane will touch down.

Getting down from his plane, Mike's eyes keep on observing the people around him.

Some men, busied themselves with all of his luggage, there are families with kids happily laughing around, and few old people leisurely sipping their coffee in the coffee house.

"This looks peaceful." Mike smiled before scrambles to drag his suitcase out to the entrance.

"Mike!"

Mike looks around, and he saw Jason waved his hand towards him.

'Jason came to pick me up? What a surprise.' Smiling at his friend, Mike strode over to Jason's Hummer.

"Hey, you are here? How's your journey? All good?" Stepping on the almost finish cigarette, to the ground, Jason gave a hug to his friend, Mike.

Letting out a slow sigh, Mike smiled at Jason. "Yeah, I am good now. Just that...I am concerned, the rest of the world might not be. Anyway, let's get in the car first." Mike picked up his backpack, and strode to the passenger seat.

Squinting his eyes together at Mike, Jason finally nodded his head.

"Whatever you say boss."

After they have driven around 10 minutes away from the airport, Mike tablet beeps again.

'Another email.'

Mike stared at the tablet screen, checking his mail. This time, he did it calmly. He has braced himself, that, from the moment he boarded the plane to Alaska, he will put everything in God's hand.

If the Gods have plans to save them from extinction, something must be on its way to make sure that somehow, they will survive.

"Jason, the thing that I wanted to tell you about, I guess you could have made an assumption already, right? Just before I boarded the plane, one Supervolcano in Asia, erupted. Who knows, how many have died, and who knows what is going to happen to those affected countries...

Who knows, who knows... when will it be our turn." Mike paused, and his eyes stared blankly at the window.

The sun has set in Alaska. "How nice... is this my last sunset?"

Jason did not look over at Mike when Mike says that depressing words. He feels that Jason might be overly dramatic, in his words, but he also can feel the frustration that Mike is feeling right now.

"I don't know how to read all your data, but I know you have done everything you could to make sure the people survive. The San Andreas Fault is going to collapse too. You are a good man, and I know you meant good all this time. But, can you tell me, why are all these happening right now?"

"I don't know. All I know that, currently, the Earth's core density has changed. What is causing them, I still did not know. This phenomenon that is happening, and what's going to happen next, can only mean that the earth is trying to repair itself, by releasing the build-up pressure inside the core, to the outside of earth's crust." Mike speaks very softly and he looks calm, devoid of emotion. He seems like he has surrendered his life to fate, and he is not going to do anything to stop it from happening.

"Right.." Jason did not know what to say. So he kept quiet as he drive to the bunker. If Mike said that there is no way out, then he can only leave their faith in God's hand too. He won't give up, as long as he can do something, to prolong his life. If it means staying inside the bunker, then he will stay.

After a long silence, Jason spoke again. "Wanna get something before you go inside the bunker? You know... we might never come out again..."

Yeah, if you are going to flee inside a bunker, escaping from an apocalypse, what would you want to bring with you?

After the tour around the bunker, they were brought to their designated rooms as their last itinerary.

"Ho, yeah, we are going to stay together, inside this big room together Lucy?" Suzy jumped on the extra-large single bed happily.

"This room is amazing! Well, can we call this is a room then? It got everything, even a fridge, a kitchen, and Wow, is this a dumbwaiter? Cool!" Suzy toured inside the studio with an awe expression on her face.

"There is no dumbwaiter around modern structures, silly. This is an escape pod. Are you even listening to the demonstration they made earlier?" Lucy rolled her eyeballs around in annoyance. Walking straight to the study table, she then sat down on the chair and took a thick booklet for study.

Everything in the room is free to use, if there are any special needs needed, they can call the room service to ask for them with an extra charge. They are each given a bracelet that is not removable without the special machine. They are to wear it all the time for identification.

Lucy walks around the studio, and the cool features they have inside the room caught her attention. The studio bathrooms even have a TV inside it!

They said that inside the bunker, the internet connection is connected to the satellite, which is not for normal civilians usage.

Lucy suddenly remembers to use the internet to check on how is Hawaii situation. What is the government's plan to restore the island? How many have died during the disaster? Most important of all, are they even going back to Hawaii?

Taking out her new Macbook Pro, Lucy connected to the WiFi inside the bunker. Before they were brought to their rooms, they are to register all their electronic devices, and they have to be granted special access to use the WiFi. She did not pay attention to what they did with her Macbook, as the laptop is fairly new and she has never even got the chance to set it up first. All she did was, she handed the Macbook to the soldier for WiFi configuration, with her Apple ID.

"Great, I did not even have to set my Macbook first." Lucy smiled delightedly.

The room was filled with the sound of the newscaster from the TV and Suzy's chatter. Suzy has been playing with the smart assistant of the room, and has been changing the room ceiling, the temperature and tested every mood set for the room alternately. She was not aware, that Lucy has been staring at her laptop screen for almost half an hour now.

Lucy was searching for Hawaii volcanoes eruption news at first when she saw another catastrophe that has befallen on Indonesia.

'The Lake Toba has erupted? What is going on here? Millions died while some of the neighboring countries were washed away with tsunamis?? Damn... is there no way safe now? Looking at the satellite pictures, the tsunami has destroyed the neighboring country already, but apparently, it is not enough, as it is going to reach Australia and Africa in a few hours after this. Holy sh*t!'

"We have still did not have a full picture of how massive the destruction caused by this volcano eruption, but looking at the picture given as a courtesy by NASA, this is huge." Lucy read around the comments on the article.

"F*ck!" Lucy cursed loudly, startling the excited Suzy that was playing with her bed control.

"Why, would you curse out of nowhere?" Suzy was mad at her sister, as she thought that Lucy was angry at her.

"Suzy, I think the world is f*cked big time now. A huge disaster went unnoticed, and when it strikes, it takes millions of people's lives at one go! This is the same as what happened to us back in Hawaii. This is a conspiracy, why would they keep all this disaster a secret? There got to be something that is happening as we speak right now. Days after Hawaii two volcanoes erupted, and now this happens? I think after this, we will hear more news on natural disasters, that killed millions again. Just you wait!"
