Chapter 24: Alaska

Somewhere inside the 12 story underground bunker.

Lee, one of the Squadron Leader who is in charge of the interior of the VIP studios, was sweating profusely. He has been running to and fro, handling the issues from the contractors of the interior of the rooms.

He just received an order to prepare the bunker for the incoming VIP guests. They are coming in another 2 days for the opening ceremony of the bunker. The VIPs then will be staying, inside the bunker after the opening ceremony, for 3 months.

Lee removed his beret and slid it inside his trousers pocket. "Damn, the bunker is always ready to be used in case of any terrorist attack, or act as a shelter for the people in case of any natural disasters strike, but that was it... I wonder, how are the posh and pampered masters and missus will live in here, in an incomplete interior, that is still far from their standards." He mumbled softly, alone, while he descended from level 12 to level 5.

-----------

Inside the underground bunker, all levels were bustling with personnel who are working tirelessly to make the bunker liveable and suitable to live for the VIPs. They have to ensure that all studios are ready to accept its first occupant in another 2 days.

"What are they thinking?! The rooms are not ready, lots of equipments, and gas tanks are not even here! What is with this opening ceremony anyway? Didn't they said that the bunker would only be opened in another 5 months??" Squadron Leaders were furious and were lashing their concerns to the other comrades. All of them were nodding, implying that they are sharing the same concern too.

Albert has been urging all the suppliers to send all the beds and other equipments urgently, to their army base since midnight. He had only received half of the items that he has ordered, and another half would be arriving in another 4 or 5 hours. He did not even have the time to sleep, as the studio was only 60% ready.

Each of the studios in the bunker will be furnished with expensive pieces of furniture and decoration and can accommodate at least 2 people. The interior of the studio features a futuristic theme, with all the appliances from the door, to the bed and sofas, and the bathroom will be fully automatic. The studio has one bathroom and a mini pantry installed inside.

Due to the demand for comfort and safety made by the investors, the technicians, and engineers, made additional emergency escape pods available from each of the studios, and emergency oxygen supply tanks will be drop down from the ceiling if the oxygen content inside the bunker drop suddenly.

High-tech futuristic displays and lightings were installed around the bunker to make the bunker looks livelier and as modern as possible. To ensure the quality of life inside the bunker did not degenerate much, the ceiling of the bunker display will change every night and day.

----------

"Hurry! We have less than 48 hours now to get it all ready! Make sure you have installed all the gas tanks and probes in place." Sam, another squadron leader was shouting giving out others to the technicians and engineers.

Sam is in charge to ensure that all the monitors were connected correctly and will always be in sync to the main control. The bunker is located deep underground, and if some unidentified gas leaked inside, or any seismic movement causes damages to any of the bunker structure goes undetected, it would be detrimental to the people inside the bunker.

Probes were installed everywhere inside the bunker to detect any abnormalities. With the probes installed, the damages would alert the control center, and repairs could be done promptly. In case the bunker suffers any damages, and it is irreparable, alarms will be sounded to alert all the occupants to exit and leave the bunker.

At level 5, it is the place for all the bunker's attendance and it is off-limit to the other occupants.

There are 4 technicians, 5 engineers, 7 domestic workers, 9 kitchen workers, 4 Doctors, 10 paramedics, and 3 helpers. They are all the people who will assist the occupants to live their life in the bunker.

The commander and assistant's living quarters were separated from the rest of the other crew. Their quarters were double the size from the normal crews room, as they are allowed to bring another companion to live together with them.

"Tell me, why do we need to report duty, months, earlier than it was scheduled? To babysit those rich people is the urgent thing that they ask us to do? pfft... it sure is nice to be rich huh." Dr.Nora said to one of the Squadron Leader.

The Squadron Leader smiled and said, "It is not nice to question the instructions from the Commander, Major. You know that there are consequences to it." He pats Dr. Nora and walks towards the elevator.

"Well, at least I am not the only one here am I? They said the babysit mission this time would be at most 2 or 3 months. Erm, what do they call... 'To experience living, inside an underground bunker during a disaster strikes.' Hahaha... I guess those rich people did not find the 5-star hotels entertaining enough now, that they resolve to stay here instead. " Dr. Nora shakes her head while she criticized the rich people's weird hobby.

"So, another 2 days will be a visit from the delegate only, or they all are going to start living in the bunker?" Dr. Nora asked the Squadron Leader standing beside her. "According to the Commander, we should expect a total of 175 people coming tomorrow. 5 VVIPs." The squadron leader lifted his hand showing all 5 fingers to Dr. Nora.

"Huh, so it is not going to be a full house? Why, are they somewhere out of the country, vacationing? Shame, they are going to miss out on the out of the world experience staying inside this state of the art underground bunker. Well, the bunker is not going to be opened at all times anyway. Pity, they have to spend a million to have a spot in this place, but now when the bunker is finally going to open its door, they are not here to enjoy it." Dr. Nora was busy speaking up her mind, that she missed the look the squadron leader gave her.

"Dr. Nora, you sure do talks a lot. It is rare for a Major to have a talk this long with me before. Are you, somehow showing interest in me?" The Squadron Leader stops his walk and put both of his hand on his back while looking at Dr. Nora. His eyebrows were raised as if challenging her to speak up her mind.

"Hah? You are thinking too highly of yourself. I am merely trying to fish out all the information that I can about the opening of this bunker tomorrow. Me, liking you? Please, I did not even know what is your name anyway. Don't be so conceited."

Dr. Nora squinted her eyes and look at the name tag of the squadron leader. "Right, thank you for all the information, and nice to meet you... Alfred." Dr.Nora smiled and walks away to the infirmary inside the bunker.

Alfred was left stunned when Nora walks passed him like nothing has happened.

"See you again, Dr. Nora." Alfred smiled and continued to do his work again.

"I think that I needed to order more medicine specifically to their medical history listed here. Hmm.. but is this list reliable? Those rich people tend to hide their medical history anyway... Oh forget it. Nora, just consider these 3 months as nothing, you are only going to babysit those rich people. How hard can it be anyway?" Dr.Nora smiled, making her way to the dispensary.
