The next day went quite busy again. The people that had to work saw a small girl and heard her talking. As they were many people that were there, so turning earth was going fast.
For breakfast, they got thick porridge with vegetables and meat. For lunch, they got rice, stew and many other things.
They worked even harder, so when the night came what she planned to do worked quite well. As they left Shu Ya saw the finished work with huge smiles. "Tomorrow I'll need your help to make straw mats."
But one of the workers came in front of her with a smile. "Miss, wouldn't be buying off the straw mats be cheaper?"
She nodded. "Maybe so. But where can I find enough straw mats to cower such a big field?"
They all got stunned. Why would anyone cover their fields?
She just sighed. "Then let's do it this way. I'll buy off as many straws cowers you all can bring me until deep snow starts." The rest of cowers she will ask others to make.
Hearing her words they all agreed and left their homes. But when they were in mid of their tracks one of them realized. "We are really stupid. For straw covers, we will get up most few bronze coins, but if we made them there we would have gotten our payment and would have our meals."
Another worker hit his head. "Are you trying to use her kindness like that? She said she will have work for us every day next year."
"I know. Food today was even better than last time." Everyone started talking about new dishes they never tasted before.
The three young men were as well amazed by new recipes Shu Ya gave them. Sweet and sour pork, spicy chicken, seasoned vegetables, fried fish in spicy sauce and many more.
Each dish was cooked and was tried by workers that couldn't stop exclaiming. The two kinds of stew, many kinds of meat and vegetables stood variously on the table.
When the dinner came she made fried rice with eggs, meat, vegetables and seasoning. Part of it went to the main dining room where her servants ate while the rest was finished by a hungry crowd outside.
When everyone left Shu Ya sat outside on the porch and saw everyone helping the three boys with cleaning pots.
On end, Luli rubbed it all dry with clean cotton cloth as Shu Ya told her and went to wash it.
The two girls took over the washing duty. Shu Ya just got angry as she saw once their red hands. "Use warm water. Oh dear Buddha, how can you wash in cold water? Warm the water and clothes will be washed faster and better. Why not using washing soap? There is none?"
She already realized while ago that people just washed with plain water. But washing off dirt needs soap. If they used washing with soap they can't let the water stay near a water source. So she asked to make ditches that would bring dirty water far away from their house.
Their house could be considered standing on higher ground so the ditch had to pass next to the other houses and end up in one of the holes they dug for the excrement.
Well at least Lou found a new house and she bought another next to him for the woman and her daughters. When he heard her proposal to let the woman take care of his kids and pay her a small amount for it, he happily accepted and the woman was happy as well for doing something as well.
Luli and Lumei were happy about the new home and were astonished by the sudden surge of energy their mother had.
Wen Delun checked her and found out that if she used certain medicines she might get better in a year or two. But she can't wash clothes anymore in cold water or drag heavy things.
As care for children without those two things became easy to do, so she blossomed suddenly. She ate well the few days they stayed at Shu Ya's home.
Shu Ya gave both families heaters and food for winter. The girls would need to come every day to work. The two boys complained to father as well to work so he let them. Only the little boy was forbidden and he made him help him with stuff Shu Ya ordered.
As her worker, she held onto her idea. Toys. But not only that. Wood furniture with beautiful carvings. So he let the boy do the basic work for toys and he did delicate parts.
The two bigger boys would leave early in the morning and would hurry with the two girls to the main house. There were always things to do.
Shu Ya knowing that big amount of people are heading her way choose to clean every room. Completely clean. Beds had new covers and blankets. The tea and water sets were completely clean and were ready to use.
Looking at her orders Wen Delun couldn't stop his curiosity. "Why are you cleaning so much?"
Shu Ya made a strange face. "I hate dirt. To think that only a few rooms are clean making me get itchy and annoyed. Using these few sunny days to clean everything is not really a bad thing. When they are done they just gave to clean it once in ten days."
Wen Delun already knew her and knew she hated dirty stuff. Even servants were trained to wash before eating and sleeping. She had actually the cleanest servants anyone could have.
Looking at everyone motions and their swift and precise movements as they cleaned his room, he smiled brightly. This is the first time in his life he couldn't even complain that something was done wrong.
"Shu Ya, in future if I become rich, I'll ask you to borrow me one of your servants to teach my household how to clean. They are truly efficient." He finally gave up on doubting her idea.
A chuckle escaped Shu Ya's lips as she sat in the main room and drank her tea. "One day when you go back where you came from I will give you a gift, but my servants... it will be their choice. If some of them choose to go with you I will give them up, completely."
That meant if they leave they won't be coming back again to her. He was very clear about this girl. She hated any kind of betrayal so leaving her side means there is no second chance.
He smiled and then looked at her while his face changed. "I understand you." Those words were enough. Since there were not many things she could do, she chose to let him teach her. From writing, reading, as well as medicine.
"...so you mean if a person has..." She was curious about something she saw in the book and let him explain better. She needed deep details and he happily did that.
Looking at her smart questions and her learning speed he was quite amazed. At the same time, Shu Ya realized that the child's body might be weak but her learning ability was enhanced. Is it because she was in the young body or because she had no pressure of multiple different kinds of classes like in past school? What if she could learn more...?
Shu Ya chuckled. In this world, there are no female officers or healers. Right?
