Chapter 65: 65. Greedy
When Mingli came back home he saw Shu Ya sitting outside in the chair and blinking at the tree that was full of colourful leaves while Hualing sat next to her and was sewing something while Louli sat next to her and was pouring tea.
Seeing her happy and content smile Mingli sighed in relief and saw Bolin not far away sharpening his sword. While he approached Shu Ya smiled at him and waved for him to come near.
''Miss.'' he smiled at her and gave her stamped documents. ''His Honor Mao La said it was a good idea to take care of your servant education so not many troublesome things can happen.''
Shu Ya chuckled. ''I bet he had a bad experience with events before so he was saying those words. Never mind. Lunch is soo ready and we will at together I have few things to say.''
Mingli nodded and went to the kitchen to let them know.
Hong nodded and clean thoroughly the tables until they shone and took out other bowls that were meant only for their mistress. Looking at his swift actions Mingli patted his shoulder in passing and smiled at the other two boys that were almost done with food as it seems.
''Miss, as much as I can see, the food preparations are almost done. We can go in.'' But looking at her sight falling on his hands he almost laughed and hurriedly said. ''After we wash up.''
Shu Ya turned her head around not to start laughing and with a completely straight face, she walked towards the dining room where Louli brought a bowl with arm water where Shu Ya washed her hands and slowly dried with a clean cloth, while everyone else washed their hands outside.
When the food was on the table she just started eating without explanation, so Mingli just waved his hand and everyone ate. Even Wen Dalun joined them this time and smiled brightly.
''Miss, since I came here not even one day was same food. But they are preparing only one meal per person. How mean.'' He filled his bowl with meat and left only a few pieces on the plate leaving everyone speechless.
Luckily the brothers realized his intention and have put the most meat on another side of the table so the rest of them could eat some as well.
Shu Ya sighed. ''Those that work eat well. Hong, Heng and Huang are doing amazing work. From today on they will care only about the kitchen and stuff around food. They do not need to help outside. Xin and Yanlin will work outside and soon Ren and Chungli will arrive as well. I hope they will meet Mingyu on their way back and bring them with. There is of course chance they might not come or they come before. Mingli, did you hear anything from them?''
Mingli nodded. ''They sent a message that they had to stop on their way in one city and will by my counting arrive here in ten days. I am happy about bird post or this would be hard.''
Shu Ya nodded. ''But did you get any message from the capital?''
Mingli shook his head. ''Mingyu didn't send anything. I hope they are ok.''
Wen Delun paused and turned his head. ''you have someone in Capital. I thought you have no family.''
Shu Ya nodded. ''I sent while ago my two men to capital to meet my saviour and bring him back the loan I took from him when I was on my way here. I earned some money on my way here and now I can't be so mean to not send the money back. And they have to bring me some medicine that can be found only in the capital. You are a physician. You know what I mean.''
Her calm expression made Wen Dalun only nod. He understood that she didn't want to talk about her sickness. ''I understand. Those things you one before?''
She nodded. ''On my way here I fell ill and someone told me what I need. Unfortunately, they couldn't find those things either in Lanning or here. So I had to end them to Capital. Sigh. I am sorry for them to go while the winter is almost on our door. I hope they will come before the big snow. Mingli, prepare everyone's rooms well. I want everyone to have thick blankets and mattress and as well heaters in rooms. I fear that this winter might be quite strong.''
''I already ordered more blankets just in case. Mingyu and Shin Young are coming, Ren and Chungli as well and we have three new females here so I ordered sets for everyone as well added everything new for all guest rooms. I bought as well everyone already predone sets of clothes for winter and in spring we can order summer clothes. I sent messages to the trader in Lanning as well. He told me he will send the grains, rice and other things you ordered.'' Mingli calmly spoke while not mentioning the full storage of grains in their home.
Shu Ya nodded. ''I fear that this winter might hit the town. If that happens we might s well need more rice for next year. Who knows will the grain sprout.''
Wen Dalun ate slower and listened to the two people talking heavily about possible disaster. ''Why do you think about IF? What if never happens? What will you do with all that rice?''
Shu Ya turned her head and laughed. ''We are on the north. Rice... I can sell anytime. Even last years rice I can sell for a good price. That and salt are not a common thing here on the north. I will not lose money if I keep a bit more rice over the wintertime.''
Wen Dalun continued to stuff his face with meat and just shrugged. ''You know your own money. When I think about it, it makes sense. people on the north really need grains and rice the whole year-round. Not many here have paddy fields. Who made this meat? It's really delicious.'' His eyes already started looking at the other plate so everyone grabbed as much meat into their own as much as they could under his greedy eyes.
