The fever made her lose herself into weird dreams. A man came to her and patted her head. ''Child, you have suffered so much. Listen well what I am going to tell you now. I am your grandfather. Your real grandfather. Your mother is not Bai. She was adopted and she is not dead. It seems they threw her body and burned someone else there. Another lie of that Kang family. I fear she lost her memories. If you ever find her give her the necklace. She will remember everything. The necklace is the key...''
She started then dreaming about her past life. ''Please, don't send me away. Please...''
Her face was wet from her tears as she hoarsely whispered over and over again. Wen Dalun scrunched his eyebrows as she finally held his hand and she didn't let it go. ''Don't leave me alone. I am so alone... so alone...''
Her fever became even stronger and Hualing sent them all out to wish Shu Ya's body with alcohol. The burning fire in her didn't stop the whole day and the whole night and was straining on her as she wildly shook and felt cold and hot all the time. ''Cold cold cold, no now its too hot... ahhhhh.''
Hualing had full hands trying to help her. Louli and little Luli would rush and get fresh water and bring in and then come out with warm water. It lasted over two days and those two days Wen Delun didn't move away from her house.
He got food to eat like everyone else and slept in one of the guest rooms. His life was after a long time actually quite... comfortable. But Shu Ya's fever made him quite worried.
Mingli was standing in front of the room and glanced through the door at Shu Ya's pale face. ''When will she be better? It is draining on her.''
Wen Delun sighed. ''Tonight will be the worst time. If she survives tonight, she will be over the worst. Tonight we need all to be ready. Prepare a cold bath outside. If there is a need, we will dip her into cold water. The medicine doesn't work as long she is having such a high fever.''
Unfortunately in mid of night Shu Ya had such a high fever that they had to dunk her inside water. To their surprise, she didn't complain, but silent tears flew down her cheeks as she gritted her teeth and shook violently in the ice-cold water.
After short while her temperature went down and they quickly rushed back with her into the room where Wen Delun waited with prepared medicine. Without an ounce of sympathy, he grabbed her jaw and made Shu Ya drink it without pardon.
No matter how much she struggled he held her tightly in his grip and with force almost chocked her with the bitter brew. She coughed most fo it out but he knew this would happen so he turned around and took another bowl of dark liquid to give her. After the fourth bowl, she stopped struggling and just drank it alone.
the bitterness was already gone and now nice warmth prevailed in her body. She could feel how the effect of the medicine affected her and she drank it not considering its bitterness.
On the early morning of the third day, Shu Ya slowly opened eyes and saw the whole bunch of worried faces. She blinked a few times and her eyes suddenly became wet. Warmth in her heart spread as she looked at the people that seemingly were worried about her.
She didn't care if that was for their own selfish reasons or because they cared, they were worried and that was enough for her. ''I am fine now. Please go rest.'' She whispered as her throat was hurting her like she swallowed sandpaper.
Suddenly she saw a young man entering the room and approaching her with a calm expression. ''Hmmm, you are awake. Good. I can finally go rest. I deserve to be treated now as a King after all these days of suffering on your side.'' His obnoxious words had hint fo playfulness as he put down next to her bowl of some kind of black liquid.
First, she scrunched her face but then smelled a familiar fragrance. It was the medicine that helped her.
Louli hurriedly helped her to sit up while placing a big pillow behind her back and took the bowl to cool it down.
Shu Ya sighed and took the bowl away. ''Doctor is not that crazy to give me piping hot medicine. Let me drink it.'' She could feel warmth trough the bowl and without a second thought, she drank it in just one shot.
Hualing stood next to her and held plate fille with sweets. ''Miss, eat this. Your mouth will burn from all that bitterness.''
Shu Ya smiled widely and shook her head. ''This medicine might be bitter, but I need to go through it if I want to get healthy. Wen Delun, right?''
He stepped forward and nodded. ''You remembered my name. Good. So how will you repay me for saving your life?''
Shu Ya became instantly serious. ''You know what I told you before? Ask me anything than that.''
Wen Delun shrugged. ''I want to stay your guest for seven more days and a hundred silver. Is it too much?''
Shu Ya stared at him with big eyes. ''Do I look like a rich woman? Not even everything here is worth that much money. Ask something else.''
He smiled at her brightly. ''Then let me be here one month. The city is getting boring.''
Shu Ya rolled her eyes. ''Winter is coming and you want to stay here and leech on me?''
He blinked at her innocently and nodded. ''Yes. Let me leech on you for one month.''
Everyone in the room was flabbergasted by the line of their conversation. It was pure nonsense and no logic could support it.
''Hmmmm. Let me think about it.'' Hualing's eyes almost popped out when she heard Shu Ya's words. ''If you feel that my home s comfortable, then I can let you leech on me until springtime. But under one condition. You have to work for that.''
He shrugged. ''Am I getting the guest room I am at the moment?''
Shu Ya sat there and took a small piece of sugar-sweet that stood on the plate and nibbled on it. ''Do you like it so much?''
He sat down at the nearby chair and nodded. ''Yes. It's comfortable and warm. Since I came to the north all I do is work work work. I had no time so far to write my books. That room has enough light so I will be able to write even in wintertime. I will accept your condition if you tell me what job do I have.'' He took a piece of sweet sugar and started nibbling casually as well.
''Teacher...'' Shu Ya stuffed the rest of the sweets and started to knack it with her teeth while enjoyment was set on her face.
He stopped nibbling on sweets and looked at her with big eyes filled with surprise. ''Teacher? Me?''
