Chapter 48: 48. Coincidence?
"Miss, our old mistress mistreated us both. We knew it but didn't say anything until she changed one day. Mistress was talking about something she found on the farm... Miss, who did Mingli buy this farm from?"
Shu Ya shook her head. She helped Louli cover herself and lowered the side cloth. "Mingli... are you outside?" She called.
The door slowly opened and he peeked trough opening to see if they finished. Seeing everything proper he entered. "Yes, miss?"
She waved her hand for him to get closer. "Louli told me about something strange. Her past mistress was talking about some finding on the farm and died after that. I wonder, who did you buy this place from?"
Mingli paled. "Actually, I saved them that day only because I saw them at that old lady's house. She gave me the papers for the proper amount. There was nothing strange about it."
There was a moment of silence until Shu Ya asked again. "Then how did you find out she was selling?"
Louli could be heard from the other side. "She wanted to sell it for a while before she didn't find whatever thing is on this farm. Maybe her offer was still in the main office?"
"Strangely, why didn't she pull back her offer at that time?' It was really strange.
Louli thought about it and remembered something else. " Mistress was worried after she found out. Her happiness became fear. One day there was a man that came to visit her. We are forbidden to look up so I don't know who he is, but he seemed like a young man and I think he was noble. After he left Mingli came and she just sold it right away."
Shu Ya stood up and went to bed. "You rest well. No matter if she didn't harm your insides, there is still a huge wound there. If it gets infected you might die as well. So be quiet and sit still. Don't move around. Mingli, there is medicine for blood replenishing. Go and cook some. I'll talk to Bolin."
Mingli nodded and rushed to the storage while Shu Ya went to look for Bolin. She found Shin Young sitting outside on the porch and cleaning his long cleaver. Her heart wavered for a moment as she saw that but her feet walked without stopping.
He turned his face and saw her calm expression. It wondered him. This child seems not to fear many things. Just a short while ago she was attacked but instead being frightened she seems now even calmer. That is scarier than anything else. For a child to live such a life it must be hard.
One side killed her mother and enslaved her, the other didn't even try to get closer. She thinks of everyone and now she looked more angry than scared when Ruoxi attacked her.
"Miss, how can I help you?" His face was calm as well as he put cleaver back to its scabbard.
She sat next to him and looked at the nearby wall. A spider stubbornly waved his nets even tho winds broke it apart again and again. "I fell like him. I must have done something wrong in my past life. But not big enough to live a really bad life. Proclaiming my current life would be laughable. I have money, food, a roof over my head and people that care about me. I shouldn't feel dissatisfied. But why do I feel this way?"
He sighed and looked at the spider. "Hmmm. You are human, not spider. You still hope to live comfortably. Not just surviving. Those that willingly want to make their own life hard are nuts. That is it."
His simple words made her think. Who is crazy enough to make his life hard if it can be more comfortable. "As long I don't attentionally harm someone so I can greedily live as I wish, I think to live anywhere is hood enough."
He shook his head. "There is always greed in human nature. There will always be those that live a better life and those that wish to have a life like that. Greed is in human nature. And hurting others you will do sometimes intentionally as you don't want people to bother you. And they bother you as their little hearts as well hold greed and they feel hurt as they can't handle it that someone else lives better than them."
He stopped talking and smiled at her. "So little miss, stop worrying and just live good. Don't bother about people as they have their own minds and wishes."
Shu Ya chuckled. "Who is telling me. You should worry about yourself. What is your real wish? Don't you plan to go back home?"
Shin Young sighed. "One day maybe. Right now I still reconsider your offer. Can't you just take us like normal guards? So when its time to leave I don't have to beg you to let me go?"
Shu Ya thought about it. "I have a fear that you all will just give up on me. Everyone else does."
He turned his head and saw her lost expression. But then her eyes became emotionless again. "What if I give you my word that I never will betray you. No matter what."
Shu Ya sighed. Even a death contract can't stop a person to betray her. Why bother writing it in the first place. "Good. I will write to everyone new contracts. Come to my room later on. If you can find Bolin, tell him to come as well. I will do as you all want. Give you normal working contracts."
He sighed. ''that will be hard miss. He left with that girl. It seems he wants to find out what is going on. I don't know when he will be back.''
Shu Ya nodded. ''Fine. Then come with me and I will write a simple contract just for the two of you. I will ask the other three do they want to change their contracts. Death contracts don't stop people betraying me.'' She stood up and went straight to the main room and started writing.
Shin Young just stared at her elegant motions. Deep in him, something stirred. She reminded him of his little sister that he left behind. How is she?
He didn't even read the contract and just signed in. Ignoring her surprised expression he took his copy and put inside his clothes and with a slight bow he left.
