Chapter 14: Disdain

I think the wait, this time, was longer than the one where Muceni and I were sitting in the room together. I wish I could do something, or have something to distract me. I do not think I am one of those people that is content to be left alone to their own mind. I think that that is the case.

Ugh, at this moment, I cannot even remember any good memory puzzles from my old life. Yes, I could work on prime numbers, but, I do not think I am that bored yet. I, at this point of having lived in this life for as long as I have, am having trouble even recalling any songs, well enough, to try to sing in my head. I hate boredom.

* * *

After, who knows, how much longer I sat there, the door was opened up again. This time, remembering what Muceni had scolded me for, I did not look up. I did attempt to listen to suss out any clue as to what was discussed while I was waiting by myself. Nothing immediately popped out, that would clue me in, as to what had happened in that room. Come on, hurry up, I hating waiting in this void of information.

"Stay here for the night. It is starting to get late and you won't be able to get that far. And you know that a bed is much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground." (Otec)

"Thank you for the offer, but I need to get back to village. I am the only healer there. I doubt that they will have needed me by now, but I can't take that for granted. I'm sorry Otec." (Muceni)

"Duty is heavier than a mountain. I understand. Be well." (Otec)

This was the most I have heard in the, presumed, hours that I have been here. From what I can tell, the man, whose name, I assume is Otec, seems to be a nice enough of a person. For all I can hope, this should bring some measure of comfort to my life. At least he does not seem to be a hateful person. With how Muceni was acting earlier, I had a hint of fear towards him. Why else would switch from her normal personality to a more authoritarian one.

"Rehor, you are to follow Otec's commands. Make sure you…. No never mind that. Goodbye." (Muceni)

"Farewell." (Rehor)

Should I have bidden farewell to her? She had made sure I knew not to talk, earlier. Still, I believe, that she was looking out for the best of me. I feel that it would have been rude to her, to not at least, say goodbye. If there is any punishment to be given for my small action, it could not be that bad. I would at least have a lighter heart for the small utterance.

"I'm sorry." (Muceni)

In the lightest of voices, Muceni, in an almost sad tone, apologized to me. Is this for how she had acted at me earlier? While I have some hate, or is it fear, towards her for how she treated me, I, in honestly, do not feel that she needs to apologize.

"The is nothing to fo…" (Rehor)

* Whack *

"Were you given permission to speak?" (Otec)

"No Sir." (Rehor)

* Whack *

Twice in less than a minute Otec struck me. I know I should not have said anything, but still, he did not hold back in the slightest. The blows were strong enough to nearly knock me unconscious. I deserve it, I know that since I did speak, I deserved it. This body is a child, you do not have to hit me that hard.

"Leave now Muceni. You don't want to be here right now." (Otec)

I have been separated from my family, just recently. Now I am to be away from everything connected to my life. Muceni was only with me, or should I say that I was with Muceni, for only a short amount of time. She was still connected to the lord's village that my family was part of. I cannot imagine being taken away from that life.

NO, do not take this last touchstone from me. I want to go back to my family. I want to be happy with them. I want to see my new sister, for the first time. Let me live my life my own way. My feelings for that life fills me with joy. Happiness is the only thing I want in this life.

When I came to, I was in a different room. Groggily, I looked around. It was a simple room. A table, with a few chairs were the only real things of substance in here. On the table, there were a few sheets of bark, some charcoal pencils, and a steaming cup of some type of beverage. There was nothing else in this room, excluding me, and Otec.

I assume I was in another chair, as I was not laying on the ground. I was not the most comfortable there, but what else was I supposed to do. Otec was sitting, or as a better description, leaning, on the table, just in front of me. When he realized I had come to, Otec, took a sip of his beverage. Setting it down, he let out a troubled sigh.

"Do you know why I knocked you out, Rehor?" (Otec)

"Bec…" (Rehor)

* Whack *

"Did I allow you to speak? No. No I did not." (Otec)

Shit. Ouch. He is right. I was prohibited from speaking. The words came out reflexively.

Did Otec constantly have to hit me? I am not doing it on purpose. Please, Otec, use your words. I will do what you say. Please, my face is hurting enough as it is, do not hit me anymore.

"Now, do you know why I had to knock you out?" (Otec)

No words came from my mouth this time. See, I think I am starting to learn. As precaution, I think it is a better idea to not even nod. Yeah, I think that is the better action.

"Ah, so can learn. Good." (Otec)
