Chapter 2: Where The baby is confused the hell out

It's been two months, or three months or maybe four months of constant crying, pooping and drinking(milk). It's really hard to tell how much time has passed.

And coming to my parents, they are probably not that well off. We lived in a run down apartment, sharing it with another family of four people. Mom and Dad both go to work. How do I know? cause mom take me me with her to her workplace, which is a Jam Packaging factory. How do I know it? Cause I can recognise these shitstains even with my eyes closed. Why? Cause my truck bonked off the road while delivering these exact jam bottles you know! I'll probably hate jams for the rest of my life.

Now you must be wondering why am I talking about my parents. That's because i have a teeny tiny sneaking suspicion that my parents have abandoned me. How did my mind come to this point? That's cause I am right now in front of a white building with a huge wooden door. I am out abandoned in the open streets with only the polluted night sky with barely a star to be seen keeping me company. I am lying down in a basket which is much less comfortable than the cribs. All in all it's a jolly miserable scene, I assure you. Now if only it does rain would the scene be complete and my name be written in the annals of history of isekai novels as the first baby to die three months after being reborn due to cold.

20 Minutes Later

I am pretty sure right now that I got a crow's mouth. I really hate this country. I get to die twice in the same country! Now tell me how many people are this fortunate?

'Who's gonna die like me?

Not him, not her, not them, no.

Who's gonna die like me?

Not now, not then, not ever.

Only me.'

I think the all this cold is making me go a bit crazy. Now what were the symptoms of hypothermia?

Now what did 'Bear Grylls' say in that show?

Shivering? I am definitely shivering. Check

Mumbling? I have been mumbling to myself since quite a while ago. Check

Slow breathing? Maybe? What is the breathing rate of a baby? Check

Weak pulse? How is an immovable baby supposed to check his own pulse? Un-check

Drowsiness? It's night time and I am a baby. Check

Confusion? I think since being reborn I have been in a perpetual state of confusion. Check

Loss of consciousness? How to differentiate between loss of consciousness and sleep myself? Probable-check

Bright red, cold skin? Don't know about the red part but I definitely have cold skin. Half-check

So it's a 'probable six and a half out of eight'.

Yep, now the only thing left is to pray.

"Father of all, I pray to you for myself, and for all those whom I love but see no longer. Grant to me eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon me. May my soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen"

Wait a minute!

I don't think I have been baptized in this life.

I mean a baptized life lead me to be reborn and die in three months. Now imagine what an unbaptized life will do!

God I don't want to die again!

Curse you my no named parents of this life. At least you could have rung the doorbell and then left me alone. Now the only hope left is to cry at my full voice so that the whole street wakes up. Who cares about child trafficking? My life is on the line guys!

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

Three time's the charm

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

On second thought why did I not do this sooner? Did I get dumber as a baby?

'And right then the most majestic door of the most majestic white castle in front of me opened and and out came the most majestic goddess draped in a mix of black and white with a pure bright halo enveloping her whole being.'

Yep, I was definitely confused and mumbling nonsense. And with that I lost my consciousness

And that's how I met Sister Violetta.

"Yet another baby abandoned by its parents." Sister Violetta sighed for the umpteenth time.

"Cheer up a little, Sister. Didn't you always say that you feel lonely in here. Now that we finally built our orphanage, you should be happy that at the very least these children weren't sold and trafficked and instead came to our church's footsteps" A tall, bald and reliable looking man replied with a smile.

"But how could someone abandon such an adorable and angelic baby!" Siter Violetta hugged the baby closer to her chest.

"Yes yes we all can wonder about that, Now first check whether he is alright or not. He was out open in the rain. He could have gotten sick. I'll call Sister Agathi to help you change his clothes and by that time you should make the arrangements for his food and sleep. I'll go call the doctor now." The man instructed her and went back to his room.

"Alright Father. I have checked and he is healthy as any baby can be" Doctor Harris had known Father Charalampos for twenty years and he definitely didn't mind being called in the middle of night, let alone be irritated and grumpy cause he had to leave his girlfriend just when things were getting spicy after a late night date.

"Thank you Doctor" Sister Violetta smiled and ran back to check on the baby.

"So how much do I owe you now Harris?" Father Charlampos enquired with a smile.

"Stop joking Father Charlampos. If my mother heard that I made you pay the consultation fees, she'll probably disown me right there." He replied weakly.

"Looks like Dora is as feisty as she was twenty years ago. Tell her to come visit sometimes. Agathi misses her very much." Father Charlampos laughed and patted the doctor's back.

"Father! He's awake. Come look!"

"Let's go. Looks like the baby is finally awake" Father Charlampos walked towards the baby's crib and squinted as he observed the baby.

And staring right back at him was the baby with tuft of blue hair and brown eyes.

"Ohh look at him. He looks so cute!" Sister Violetta uttered gleefully.

"Is it just me or the baby's eyes really staring at us?" The doctor questioned the two of them.

"Looks like it's cute and intelligent too" Sister Violetta spoke up.

"I don't really think babies are supposed to do that, It is a bit abnormal right?" Doctor Harris felt a weirded out.

"You shush! He must have been surprised to be in this new environment. He's probably trying to figure out who we are. Isn't that right Father?" Sister Violetta turned towards Father Charlampos.

"And that's exactly what's weird about it. babies aren't really supposed to think so much" Doctor Harris called out exasperatedly.

And the baby chose right that moment to let out a smile and some baby babble.

"Well, weird or not, he definitely looks like he is in high spirits. Okay that's enough. Thank you Harris for coming here at such a short notice. Get Dora to come with you next time you visit us. Sister Violetta, accompany him to the gate please" Father Charlampos shook his hands.

"No need Father,I've come here so many times. I know the way out. And it was my pleasure to help the orphanage. Well then I shall get going, mother's probably waiting for me" Doctor Harris replied with a flushed face.

"Bye Doctor Harris. May god bless you" Sister Violetta waved

"Bye Sister Violetta" Doctor Harris waved back and briskly walked out of the church.

"Okay now get back to work Violetta. We also need to file the paperwork for him, so i'll be going out. I have already instructed Sister Agathi to prepare the necessary things for him"

"Yes father" Sister Violetta answered and with that both of them left the still squealing baby to his own devices.

'I hate my baby body' I woke up and sighed first thing. My unusable motor skills and my malfunctioning voice are really being a pain in the ass. I tried standing up and escaping this cage in the form of an extremely comfortable crib, But this small, weak and vulnerable body just won't listen to me! I guess I have to be content with only moving my head. I tried seeing around and saw a man dressed in white talking to another man dressed in white with a women dressed in a mix of white and black gazing at me and shouting in some garbled language. And suddenly there were three faces now gazing at me. Though I felt it was closer to staring. Hmmph Are they trying to scare me with those big eyes? Is this some kind of a plot where the people of an organisation start to instill obedience and fear in children from a young age and then indoctrinated to give their loyalty to the organization. Haa! then I will never give in to them. I put my thumb in my mouth and gave them the scariest stare I could give. We stared right back at each other's eyes. There was pin-drop silence all around. After staring at each other for about three minutes they gave up.

"Yeah! take that you guys. I win." I squealed in excitement though the only voice that came out was baby yapping. But are babies supposed to do that? Wouldn't I become a high profile target for the organization.

I think I just made a mistake.
