Chapter 48: Crash and burn

It was surprising how much he had levelled up in just two days but this is what you get when you behave like a slaughtering machine for two continuous days.

'In the end, I'll have to use cold weapons to fight enemies of a higher level. And for that reason upgrading my strength seems like the most effective path for now. And my time skip skill..'

Jason was broken from his monologue by a large explosive sound as his world turned upside down.

The truck flipped over due to its immense momentum and crashed on the asphalt floor to a skidding halt as sparks flew over due to the friction between the asphalt road and the crushed metal surface of the truck.

Jason felt stuffy inside his head as everything seemed blurry for the moment and a ringing sensation pierced his skull as he tried to make sense of the situation.

The truck had flipped over and the perpetrator of this accident was a zombie walking towards them in a leisure pace instead of the crazed rushing like the rest of its kind.

Its eyes were filled with madness and hunger but hidden within was a sliver of intelligence.

Jason diverted his eyes from the unnatural zombie and turned to look for Kim. She was sitting inside the front seat with a deep wound on her head as blood flowed from the wound covering her entire face.

Jason panicked and pushed himself up as spikes of pain shot up his nerves. He was not wounded due to the mana force field around him but the force of the impact still hurt his body as he had been on the roof and his body took the brunt of the crash force.

Jason quickly freed her from the wreckage and tried to make sense of her condition.

She definitely passed out from the impact and Jason only had the medicines from the system to help her recover. He bought a healing pill and basic healing cream. He quickly applied the healing cream on the cut on her head and put the pill in her mouth as it melted away in her mouth. He sped past and put her in a secure location and then turned to the zombie in front of him.

It felt terrifying to see the zombie fine after colliding headfirst with the truck. The truck was reduced to wreckage but the zombie kept walking towards him.

Jason hastily took out his His pistols as his assault rifle was lost in the wreckage.

*Bang *Bang *Bang

The sound of continuous gunshots rang as Jason emptied out both the clips on the Zombie, aiming for the head.

But as Jason had guessed the bullets bounced off of the zombie's skin as if there was a force field covering the zombie's body.

"It has completed the second evolution" Jason spoke with dread as a chill ran up his spine.

This was the end to all his gun skills and Jason had dreaded this day as after this he will have to leave the comfort of using guns. With guns, he could safely fight enemies from afar without physically endangering himself. But now he will have to physically fight this zombie.

The zombie, on the other hand, gave out a loud growl as it was annoyed at its pray. It seemed that it had had enough as it stomped on the ground with explosive power and rushed at Jason with immense speed. The speed took Jason by surprise as in the blink of an eye the zombie was upon him with its mouth wide open showing it's razor-sharp teeth ready to bite into his juicy flesh.

Jason panicked as his instincts kicked in and saved him from an untimely death as he unleashed the full power of his time skip ability. The time slowed down to a trickle and the zombie also slowed down but not by a large margin as it's speed was so immense that even his ability could not fully stop him. Jason stumbled back with fright as the zombie whizzed past him in slow motion.

Jason soon collected himself as he jumped inside the system store and hastily bought a descent looking steel sword. He did not know how to handle a sword, not even a single bit but it was the only thing he could think of that combined with his good enough strength stats had the potential of harming the zombie

A loud explosive sound came as the zombie kicked the asphalt road hard causing its forward momentum to halt and it refocused on Jason as it again came at him with the same explosive speed.

Jason's ability could not slow it down properly as the zombie was fast enough to overcome it and it was coming at him in a somewhat normal walking pace.

Jason pushed himself up with a determined look as he rushed at the zombie with a sword in his hand. The way he was holding the sword with both hands raised above his head was quite comical as it definitely was not a proper way to hold a sword. But Jason grit his teeth and he almost gave a silent warcry as he brought the sword down on the zombies' head in a downward slash as he put all his energy into the slash.

The sword touched the mana membrane on the zombie's head and he felt some resistance but he kept putting all his force and finally, it broke the membrane as a soft black light pulsed through the zombie's skin as the mana membrane was overwhelmed. A savage grin was about to form on Jason's face when the sword made contact with the unprotected skin of the zombie.

But it was soon ripped away as he found that the sword only left a light wound on the zombie's head and stopped moving.

"Fuck me sideways" Jason cursed as he realised that it wasn't a normal zombie but a mutated zombie which had further completed it's second evolution just like him.
