Rock sat at the table in the cafeteria tent set up for the refugees. His talk with Walter playing fresh in his mind. The beasts were leading them to a trap, it seemed. People were all over the place here, three thousand people with only five hundred knights at most. The city wasn't safe. And it was becoming more apparent everyday. Rock thought about Lizzy and Sherry, the two he felt most responsible for. Lizzy had been his neighbor growing up. The two had been somewhat close until Rock became the man he was now. Eyeing the Chapel from a distance is nice, but up close the realty is not always so grand, a saying his father once said. Getting up Rock walked to the barracks for the knights. He saw Samantha on her bed reading. "What is your plan." Rock said walking up. Samantha scoffed. "There is none, the Council have recalled all soldiers back here in case of attack." she said. "That won't do. We need a front line to fight them." Rock said. Samantha laughed. "Fight them, there isn't a man here who could hope to kill one alone, lets face it this is a problem that we can't handle, soon the council will realize these walls are a problem and not a safety, and then the city goes into evacuation to the harbor where two thirds of the population are left behind because we don't have enough ships or anything." Samantha said shaking her head. Rock nodded. It seemed even the knights had lost hope. With a sigh Rock left.
That night, he couldn't sleep. A voice as sweet as an angel's melody, kept telling him to seek out the Guardian items. Not really knowing what they were or where to look he just found it bothering that he was hearing voices. Maybe he was going insane after all the things that occured. Or maybe he was actually being told of an answer to the problem his world was now having. Whatever it was, he was certain that trouble was brewing.
Winter had arrived, snow was covering the streets and people were beginning to ration food and clothes. Prices had go up significantly, and for the refugees, price took away their ability to survive. Many of the younger women from Rock's town had taken to prostitution to provide for themselves. Many of the children had been adopted for money as well. Rock, although understanding, did not like the way the women handled things. Lizzy and Sherry had been staying in the tavern/inn Rock had worked at. due to him working there he was given a room for free. this room was shared between the three although Rock slept against the wall. the reason Rock did this was of an incident that happened after the prostitution started. three men had came into Lizzy's tent and Raped her, fortunately they didn't get very far as Walter heard the ruckus and intervened. Clothes torn and her body's most cherished parts exposed. Walter took her to Rock. Rock in his fury went to the Council. he told them of the event, then told them to spread the word that if it happened to anyone again, he would personally make sure they didn't live long enough to regret it. And Samantha and her knights backed him. Prostitution was one thing money, pleasure, and consent were involved there, Rape was the pure opposite, taking advantage of a girl's body without reimbursement or consent. Needless to say the rape occurrences lessened, but not to the point where they didn't happen. Samantha and her knights now posted guards for the refugees, but Lizzy, still scared from the three men, couldn't sleep. And worry about her and Sherry was becoming a constant in her mind. So Rock moved her in. The first two weeks she slept by Rock, helping to ward off her nightmares, but after that Rock took to sleeping on the ground or against the wall to give her some space. they weren't married and the capital would frown a pon the sharing a room enough as it was, no reason to push it by sharing a bed.
Rock was in the capital's library. The Guardian items now peeking his interest having heard nothing but the sentence "seek the Guardian items for the past few weeks." But the only thing that the books spoke of was the old blade of the king's champion knight, the sword often refered to as the Guardian blade, or the protector's sword. When Rock asked Samantha about it she drew a blank. Sure she knew of the blade, but not of what came of it. When the old kingdom split, the sword was lost as the champion knight had left his post, and disappeared.
Other then that the history books knew nothing of the sword or anything refered to as the Guardian items. Sighing Rock stood. He was looking for a fools hope. The creatures had destroyed three large towns up North, only eight survivers came to the city, three knights two 18 year old boys and Three women, one of whom died a day later from wounds caused by the attack. Men from the refugee camps were being forced into service. Due to his nature as a mayor, he was mostly left be.
Walking to the barrack showers he reflected on his life. how he wished he had more power then he did. He was so lost in thought that when he opened the door to the showers, he was greeted with the sight of a very much naked Samantha. He had to admit, for a knight she certainly was a beauty. Her blonde hair was matted down behind her back, her blue eyes wide in shock. Her breasts at least a large c possibly a small d cup, her torso was well toned, now she wasn't shredded, but she definitely took care of her body. Another slight surprise was her curves, you would have never known she had 'em while she wore her armor. His eyes traveled down, and he was greeted by her long beautiful legs meeting to a very well kept patch of blonde hair over her love hole. Rock blushed as did Samantha at the predicament he put them in. "Well what are you waiting for? Come in and close the door." she said. Rock blinked but did as he was told.
