Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Eye of the Creator

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

The Divine Enthronement battle after ten years of the game's operation, all other classes had divine positions, only the Hunter didn't.

Back then, Li Yao, after playing Hunter for eight years since giving up on the Thief occupation, had practiced his bow and arrow skills hard, however, wasted two years playing Thief at the beginning of the game. Despite being the leading figure among Hunter players, he still had no divine position, thus became a Quasi-god, essentially a Demigod. This greatly disappointed him.

After resurging in reality, one of the things Li Yao wanted to do most was to change the plight of the Hunters. Li Yao believed that out of the nearly 20 billion people, there must be a great number who played Hunter but gave up before they even started. What the Hunters are missing is a role model to prove that they are not inferior to any other occupations.

Since he had a climbing axe and ten years of gaming experience, climbing a small hill was a piece of cake. It only took him over ten minutes to climb the 200+ yards high hill.

Standing on top, he could see the statues erected in the valley.

"Titan Statue, it should be here."

There were quite a few elite Demon Wolves wandering in the valley. He couldn't see the creature's data, but according to his memory, these Demon Wolves should be level 60 elites.

As a quasi-god level master, Li Yao could easily calculate a monster's aggro range.

Slowly approaching the nearest Demon Wolf, until the Demon Wolf stopped suddenly, looking around in confusion, Li Yao swiftly retreated.

"Aggro range is about thirty-eight yards."

Li Yao returned to the top of the hill to look over the entire valley. Half an hour later, he finally found a hopeful path to the interior of the valley through observing the patrol routine of hundreds of Demon Wolves.

He tiptoed around each Demon Wolf very carefully. The route was winding and complicated. Being spotted by a single wolf would spell certain death during the entire process.

Just because he drew the route doesn't mean he is safe. Demon Wolves are moving creatures. Li Yao had to keep a simulation of their routine in mind. If he made a slight error in his calculation, the result would only lead to a dead end.

When Li Yao reached the safe zone under the statue, his whole body soaked in cold sweat. It took him a while to recover. It wasn't physical fatigue, but mental exhaustion.

Simulating the movement routes of nearly a hundred Demon Wolves for an hour in his mind, any regular person would've fainted from exhaustion and been forcibly retired from the game.

"It should be this treasure chest."

Li Yao climbed onto the shoulder of the tall Titan statue and finally saw a small treasure chest on the back of the Titan's neck shimmering with a rainbow light.

There are two types of treasure chests in The Ancient God World, one is the random chest. They randomly regenerate on the regional map and randomly drop items of corresponding regional levels. These chests will respawn after a certain time once opened.

The second type is called the unique chest. These chests are unique. The respawn locations are fixed, and the items they drop are also fixed. Plus, they won't respawn after once opened.

Such as the chest that Li Yao was opening. After Li Yao opens it, all the chests in the High Elf's Newbie Mirror Map would disappear.

1%2%3%4%...99%100%

Despite being unlocked, it takes at least a minute to open this kind of chest. If interrupted, it takes even longer. In his previous life, Li Yao has seen countless bloodshed triggered by a single treasure chest.

Click

With a soft sound, the rainbow-colored chest finally opened.

"System: Opened a unique chest, obtained the Eye of the Creator."

Eye of the Creator

Quality: Legacy Equipment (attributes grow with level)

Strength 3

Agility 3

Stamina 3

Effect: The Creator's Pact, able to form a pact with mechanical creatures.

Effect: Once you learn Engineering, you can craft engineering items without a blueprint.

Effect: The Creator can perceive all things and deceive all sentient beings.

Requirement to wear: Hunter

Durability: Never Wears Out

It is indeed here, a smile appeared on Li Yao's face. This item, which would usually require level 60 and a flying mount to get, was already in his possession at level 0. How could he not be thrilled? Moreover, this was the most crucial step of his plan after reincarnation. All other plans have to pivot around this item.

In The Ancient God World, equipment is categorized as Damaged (grey) Common (white) Finest (green) Excellent (blue) Epic (purple) Legendary (gold) Mythical (dark gold) Divine Artifact (rainbow). Plus, there is a special kind of equipment, the legacies (red). Such equipment usually possesses growth and uniqueness.

The creator refers to the Titans, who supposedly made this desolate planet teem with life and wonders.

Tens of thousands of years passed, the Titans have become extinct in this world, but their creations and relics are scattered across all continents.

In his previous life, the Eye of the Creator was discovered by a Japanese player despised by everyone two years after the game started. The man was of a terrible character.

His favorite activity was to kill Chinese low-level characters. Killing a few low-level characters once or twice was acceptable, but what was unbearable was how he persisted in killing Chinese low-level characters over the years.

He was once placed on the most-wanted list by countless Chinese guilds. In a desperate escape, he stumbled here and discovered the Eye of the Creator.

Still, although this man was strong, no one respected him. He had practically no friends in the game, even Japanese players loathed him.

When people found out he obtained the Creator's Equipment, he practically became a universal enemy. Relying on the Eye of the Creator, he fought against three to four major guilds alone, massacring countless blows.

But in the end, he had too many enemies. Against the ocean of billions of players, he ultimately made an ignominious exit. He never logged in again after going offline, and the Eye of the Creator disappeared from everyone's sight as well.

Countless people sighed with regret. If they had the Eye of the Creator, perhaps the Hunters could also obtain divinity, causing many Hunters to lament with frustration.

Upon obtaining the Eye of the Creator, Li Yao didn't feel a shred of guilt.

Legacy equipment is incredibly powerful. Not only it's equivalent to an extra equipment slot, but also because of their incredibly powerful special effects.

The first effect allows him to sign pacts with mechanical pets which is incredibly overpowered. The mechanical items he crafts will possess a certain level of wisdom, just like a Creator.

The second effect, as long as he learns Engineering, even if he doesn't have blueprints, he can still craft items he conceives. This is recognized by the system rules. As for the quality of the items crafted, it depends on the skills of the maker and the quality of the materials used.

The third effect, as the Titans created all beings, naturally, they can see through the strengths and weaknesses of all beings and fabricate camouflage. The so-called camouflage is almost like a second identity, with plenty of benefits.

For example, in the early stages, if he didn't want to attract attention but had strong capabilities, things like first kills in raids or boss announcements could be claimed under the identity created by the Eye of the Creator. He could play the role of an unseen expert while secretly amassing broader wealth under his own identity.

For another example, when he is at a high level, he could switch races to the opposing faction. Of course, this is not an actual race change, but an illusion created by the Eye of the Creator. This deceit has been used by the Japanese player in his previous life. If his real-life identity hadn't been forcibly uncovered, his in-game identity wouldn't have been exposed.

Now that Li Yao had obtained the Eye of the Creator, the game rules dictated that he could only use a pet once he reached level 10 as a Hunter. Consequently, the most important things for Li Yao right now were acquiring the design for a mechanical pet and leveling up.

Once again, Li Yao arrived atop a cliff and, without hesitation, jumped off. Due to the game's zero-death penalty, which ensured nothing was lost upon death, and the close proximity of a graveyard, Li Yao revived at the foot of the mountain a few minutes later.

"This is the perfect spot for level 2 and 3 elite raptor respawns. Taking down these elite raptors should help speed up my progress," Li Yao checked his skills panel.

Each class, when starting at level 0, could learn one of three initial skills. Subsequent basic skills would require learning from a skill trainer, and advanced skills would require skill books.

The three skills for the Hunter class were Charged Arrow, Concussive Shot, and Arcane Shot.

Charged Arrow: The greater the power accumulated, the more potent the arrow, with first level charge doing 125% damage, second level 150%, third level 175%, and fourth level 200%.

Arcane Shot: Fires an arrow imbued with arcane energy, causing 150% damage. Cooldown time is 10 seconds.

Concussive Shot: Fires an arrow that does 50% damage and slows the target for 4 seconds. Cooldown time is 8 seconds.

All three skills were great and necessary for gameplay. However, since Li Yao was leveling solo, he needed to learn Charged Arrow.

In free mode, the charged arrow could potentially knock back or even knock down a target if successful.

However, Li Yao's current weapon was just a white-ranked Novice Bow, only capable of achieving a level one charge. A green-ranked bow would enable a level two charge, and so forth. Higher bow quality allowed for higher charge levels, but achieving a charge level above four also meant meeting certain player attribute requirements.

The High Elves' eyes turned green due to their Sunwell being corrupted by the Scourge, but by equipping the Eye of The Creator, Li Yao's eyes reverted back to their pure sky-blue color.

After equipping the Eye of the Creator, Li Yao gained a different perspective of the elite raptors.

"The blood-colored hue on its head signifies a breakable spot. Red dots appear when it runs, marking weak spots or knockdown points. The special effects of Eye of the Creator are incredible."

Thrilled, Li Yao surveyed the terrain and skillfully nocked his arrow. The moment the bow shimmered with a golden light, the arrow was let loose.

ROAR...

The arrow fired with deadly precision, finding its mark on the small crest atop a nearby raptor's head.

-12

Hitting a weak spot added bonus damage, resulting in 12 points of damage. If the shot landed on a hard-fleshed part, the level 0 Li Yao would only deal a forced -1 damage effect on an elite raptor.

Raptor Elite (Yellow)

Level 2

Health: 800

Armor: 35

Attack: 36-42

Fierce Bite: Violently bites the prey, causing three stages of damage.

Leap Claw Attack: Powerful leap attack, using the momentum to rend prey with its front claws, causing 120% damage and 80% bleed damage.

Another function of the Eye of the Creator was to provide monster data without the need for appraisal skills.

Given Li Yao's current health of just over a hundred points, he would nearly be instantly killed if attacked by a raptor.

Under free mode conditions, if the damage or force was sufficient, it could knock down or knock back monsters.

Monsters charging at you would increase their attack, but conversely, they were also more susceptible to being knocked down.

Facing the charge of an elite raptor from dozens of yards away, Li Yao had no intention of evading. He remained rooted where he stood, his bow drawn with an arrow ready.

When the charging raptor elite was within a dozen yards of Li Yao, he released the bowstring; an arrow, carrying a faint whistling sound, sped forward.

-8

The razor-sharp arrow fiercely buried itself into the rear leg joint of the raptor elite. The elite raptor stumbled but still sprung quickly towards him.

With a swift side-step, Li Yao narrowly avoided the raptor's lunge. At the same time, a Charged Arrow, glowing yellow, once again hit the same spot as the first arrow.

The raptor, nearly the height of a person, instantly tumbled to the ground, writhing and struggling to rise.

"This red dot on the knee joint must be the knockdown point."

With ten years of experience, Li Yao naturally knew to target the raptor's hind legs. As raptors relied on these hind legs for running, sufficiently damaging them would cause the raptor to fall. The Eye of the Creator was able to directly reveal these knockdown points, allowing Li Yao to down the raptor with just two arrows instead of the usual five or six.

"The Eye of the Creator, combined with my perfect archery technique, is a match made in heaven."

While he pondered, Li Yao smoothly continued to draw his bow and shoot his arrows. Simply pulling back the bow counted as first level charge, and each arrow accurately struck the raptor's crown.

-12-15-11-13

His actions flowed smoothly like a running river, often releasing arrows without using any aim, seemingly firing blindly. However, every arrow managed to find its mark atop the raptor's crown.

It is important to note that the raptor elite was not stationary; it was constantly struggling while lying on the ground. Yet, not a single arrow that Li Yao shot had missed. This was the result of his years spent as a Hunter.

When the raptor elite finally managed to stand, it leapt high into the air and pounced towards Li Yao like an arrow leaving a bow. Its two front claws glistened faintly with blood.

The speed of the Leap Claw Attack was so quick that dodging, like before, would be impossible.

Li Yao's pupils contracted slightly, his heart pounding hard. As he let go of his fingers, a golden arrow burrowed into the raptor's eye with a soft sound, blood spewing wildly.

-58

The raptor's health bar sharply decreased.

The intense pain caused the raptor to momentarily lose its sight, and it writhed around in agony. Its pre-attack move diverted slightly, allowing Li Yao to dodge the Leap Claw Attack in the nick of time with yet another side-step.

The precise grasp of the situation – the excellent archery, explosive power, and agility – made the difference between life and death. His current armor would hardly protect him from an elite monster's skill attack.

Typically, an elite's skill had a cooldown of about two minutes. By the time Li Yao managed to once again avoid the Leap Claw Attack using the same tactic, the raptor was near death.

After roughly another minute, the raptor elite's health finally depleted, and it collapsed onto the ground...

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Killing the Thief

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

Li Yao took out his disassembly knife and used collection on a Velociraptor Elite. Any player with a high-quality disassembly knife could collect materials from a monster's corpse three times.

In "The Ancient God World," only humanoid monsters dropped money and equipment, while animal-type monsters only produced materials, each of which could be harvested thrice.

However, Li Yao estimated that he was probably the only one able to collect so far, as in his previous life, it wasn't until level 10 that some people spent their spare money on a superior disassembly knife and discovered they could harvest material from animals three times. Because of this, many players protested against the official rules.

Break point collection could be gained once if you successfully exploited a weakness in the monster; you could still gather even without a disassembly knife. Learning the skinning skill could provide an additional harvest opportunity.

"System: Obtained Velociraptor Elite's Crown (Green Material)"

"System: Obtained Velociraptor Claw (White)"

"System: Obtained Velociraptor Skin (White)"

"System: Obtained Velociraptor Elite's Tendon (Green)"

"System: Obtained Arrow Shaft (43)"

A crown is a break point reward; only by continuously damaging the crown can you create a break point effect. A sufficient amount of damage to the crown is necessary to collect it during harvesting.

Arrow shafts were compensation obtained after killing monsters. Otherwise, even if Hunters filled all their bags with slow arrow shafts, it wouldn't be enough. He had fired nearly a hundred arrows to kill the Elite, but managed to recover forty-three shafts - roughly half.

After killing three Elites, Li Yao leveled up to level 1.

The game had been running for two days now. Ordinary players could only form teams to kill normal monsters, while the elites in the major guilds presumably had a very hard time killing Elites in groups. There were absolutely none like Li Yao who could solo-kill. Case in point, this was only possible with his rebirth technique; otherwise, such leveling speed was impossible.

Li Yao distributed the five attribute points he obtained from leveling up to three strength and two agility.

Levelling up in "The Ancient God World" is challenging. Even though Li Yao was challenging monsters above his level, and they were Elites at that, it took him three Elites just to reach level one. If he wanted to go from level one to level two, Li Yao would need to kill dozens more Elites.

This was also why, even though the server had been open for more than two days, the highest level was still only level three with no level fours yet.

At the same time, the three Elites had granted Li Yao a Spirit weapon and two Spirit defenses, which could be used to strengthen weapons and armor respectively.

These items were only dropped by non-humanoid monsters, with Elites and above almost always dropping one. Combined with the materials harvested, these monsters were certainly not neglected.

"Finally found one."

After Li Yao killed his fifty-sixth Elite and reached level two, he finally spotted a hint of yellow glow in a bush.

"It's a Bronze Treasure Chest. Should be able to get some good stuff."

Without even collecting the materials, Li Yao started to unlock the chest. The chests in the Beginner's Village didn't have locks, so anyone could open them.

System: Obtained Skill Book, Shadow Roll.

System: Obtained 50 copper coins

System: Obtained Bronze Great Sword

Shadow Roll is a Hunter's evasion skill, an upgraded version of sidestepping. It's very useful and applicable in all directions. Li Yao learned it immediately without any hesitation. With this skill, killing Elites would be much more relaxed, significantly reducing the previous danger.

Bronze Great Sword

Quality: Superior (Green)

Attack: 4-8

Strength: 3

Agility: 2

Equipment Requirement: Level 1

Hunters can equip any melee weapon except hammers, and while their attack can't be added to bow and arrow damage, the strength of three and agility of two is the equivalent of gaining a level.

While killing Elite Monsters, Li Yao also scoured certain nooks and crannies. According to statistics, three chests would spawn in this area, meaning there were still two chests he hadn't found.

Elsewhere in the same zone, a small group of players managed to kill an Elite Velociraptor after a great struggle.

The Brilliant Club, the one they belonged to, was one of the top ten clubs in China, with its Brilliant Guild being well-known too. You could say it was at the top of the gaming world in China.

The leader of this team was the President of the Brilliant Guild and a famous commander in China, Haikuotiankong. The team members were also elites from the pro team or the guild.

"I'm so sick of eating this bread." Said youngrongnaida, the priestess in the team, as she ate her piece of bread with a look of disgust.

Woshixiaoqingxin, a mage with a figure accentuated by her form-fitting clothes, gave a charming smile and said, "It seems like our Guildmaster has successfully created a character. What's this about being sick, though?"

"You bamboozler!" Haikuotiankong laughed. He turned to the shield warrior and said, "Dàshān, are you tired of it too?"

The shield warrior, Dàshān laughed and replied, "How can I be tired? Being able to follow the guild master and kill elites is much better than anything else."

"True, everyone in the guild must be so envious of us. Without our Guildmaster's excellent command, we'd still be fighting common monsters," Woshixiaoqingxin gave Dàshān a glance and asked, "Guildmaster, do you think we can be the first to reach level ten?"

"Without a doubt, we'll be among the first to reach level ten. But being the first to reach level ten is uncertain. There are many other strong players in other guilds and clubs. This game is extraordinary; the freedom mode is not conducive to us. As far as I know, there are many martial art experts leveling up alone," Haikuotiankong replied.

"Can these martial art experts solo-kill Elites?" Woshixiaoqingxin continued to ask.

"In theory, they can. But at this stage, it's just a theory. According to information from the guild, many individual experts have tried and failed, losing levels in the process. I suspect that it'll at least be a year or so before such people start to appear. As for soloing field bosses, that's probably several years away," Haikuotiankong responded.

The others inhaled sharply at this. They trusted Haikuotiankong's judgement implicitly. The cost of attempting to take on wild monsters and failing was much too steep given how difficult leveling up was.

Just then, their scout rogue, Dànzhi Bàojú's voice sounded over the team channel, "Guildmaster, I've found a lot of Velociraptor Elite corpses."

Their expressions changed. They had thought that only they could kill elite monsters in this beginner's village.

"No way, this can't be happening." Before the others could process this piece of news, they heard an exclamation on the voice channel from Finger-Blocker.

Soaring Sky asked, "What's going on?"

"Boss, there was only one person killing the elites, and it's Watts, the hunter we all thought was rubbish. I must be seeing things. He killed an elite monster without even touching its clothes," said Finger-Blocker.

Refined Youth breathed a sigh of relief, laughed and scolded, "Stop messing around, I almost thought it was true. Didn't you hear the boss's analysis? There can't possibly be such players at this stage. Hurry back, we've recovered, let's start the next round."

Finger-Blocker anxiously said, "I'm not joking. If the system allowed private filming, I would've sent you the video already. A single person killing elites must be a well-known player. I'm going to take a closer look to see who it is."

"Be careful not to clash with them, leveling up is the focus," cautioned Soaring Sky.

"Okay, I just want to confirm which club or guild this expert belongs to," confirmed Finger-Blocker.

Anxious, Soaring Sky scrunched his eyebrows, trying to make sense of the situation after gathering information from various guilds and clubs.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the hill, Li Yao ended the life of a Velociraptor Elite with his final arrow and then reloaded his bow. Suddenly, he pivoted sharply and shot an arrow into the brush.

"Have you seen enough?"

Thud...

-6

A thief figure emerged and before he could respond, Li Yao had already retreated and shot a second arrow right at the thief's knee.

-15

The thief, who was just standing up, fell over.

Even as the thief screamed out in pain, Li Yao had already drawn his bow for the third time.

Thud...

-35

The arrow accurately hit the thief in the head. As the thief struggled to stand up, two more arrows struck and he collapsed, dead.

Shaking his head without a care, Li Yao picked up the shoulder guards dropped by the thief, saw that they were common equipment and threw them back on the ground before continuing to grind those monsters.

Li Yao noticed the thief who had been watching him for at least five minutes. It was risky to attract a thief's attention, especially if he teamed up with elite monsters.

"Boss, I got killed, dammit. Who is this guy? I didn't even attack," Finger-Blocker moaned.

"If he's that aggressive, just kill him and teach him a lesson," Soaring Sky casually suggested.

"Yes, it was my negligence just now. I won't let it happen again," Finger-Blocker snapped angrily.

...

Just as Li Yao killed a Velociraptor Elite in front of him, he heard faint footsteps behind him. Without making a scene, he shot a glance at the thief approaching him while he continued to shoot his arrows.

The thief crept towards him, not realizing that his movements were bending the grass beneath his feet.

When the thief was within 8 yards of Li Yao, Li Yao abruptly released an Arcane Torrent. An explosion of arcane energy unveiled the thief's silhouette.

At the same time, Li Yao spun around and released an arrow.

Thud...

With the power of the Eye of the Creator, Li Yao could bring down the thief with a single arrow.

But the thief was remarkably quick, turning into a shadow as the arrow hit the ground. He instantly appeared behind Li Yao.

Shadow Step!

Li Yao was slightly taken aback. He was confident there were no more than ten thieves who had learned Shadow Step at this stage. The thief's reaction was as fast as a professional player. Unbeknownst to Li Yao, the thief was indeed a top professional player.

As a quasi-God-level master with over ten years of gaming experience, cosplaying in his prime, Li Yao was set to outperform his past life.

The moment he saw Shadow Step, Li Yao used Shadow Roll. He cast two continuous Shadow Rolls.

Finger-Blocker jabbed his glowing dagger at Li Yao's shadow, hoping to stun him for at least a second. He had hoped to catch Li Yao off guard, with the Velociraptor Elite charging in to finish him off.

However, Li Yao swiftly rolled behind the thief with his Shadow Roll. The thief, having just caught thin air, now found himself staring into the jaws of a Velociraptor Elite and felt a sharp pain in his back.

Li Yao's quick kick sent the thief sprawling to the ground, and the Velociraptor, caring not in the least about whom it was attacking, made short work of the prone thief.

After kicking the thief aside, Li Yao quickly retreated and shot two arrows at the elite's crest, causing the already bleeding monster to fall by his feet.

Close and dangerous as the encounter before was, Li Yao handled himself brilliantly.

"He dropped a blue dagger. Poor kid," said Li Yao after picking up the dagger the thief had dropped. He then dodged the Velociraptor and jumped back into the heat of battle. Time was too precious for him to waste on idiots like the thief.

Meanwhile, the thief who had just met his fate was about to cry. His level dropped to one and he had even dropped his precious blue weapon.

Finger-Blocker, upon resurrecting, couldn't find Li Yao, "Boss, I can't find that guy," he said sullenly.

The team was speechless, resigned to only killing the elites on the outskirts because going any deeper meant certain death. Their hopes of revenge now seemed even further away...
