Chapter 64: Chapter 64

I rushed into the room, only pausing for a second to see who was inside...Wait!

There is only one person in here!

The archmage was just standing there, looking straight at me. In his eyes, I could see mockery. He had known the whole time I was inside of his house! But then as he looked closer, I saw the mockery turn into confusion.

"You...How are you here?"

I smiled at his confusion and didn't bother to explain at all. Instead, I just rushed straight at him, trying to catch him off guard.

It was a success, the sound of my dagger plunging inside of him, with a glorious squelch. Sounded so good at that moment, I almost felt like crying. This was so easy. I had expected some kind of terrifying duel where I would only just succeed. Not this, it was just so easy it was crazy.

I took a step back, as his body slumped to the floor. He looked so shocked.

"You..you are a nightingale?"

I had no idea what he was on about, but I just looked down at him and smiled.

"No you fool, I am a shadow."

His eyes widened in shock and fear, then as he choked on his blood, I watched his life leave his eyes.

Just before I left, I had a quick look around, to see if there was anyone else around. There was none.

I guess the moaning, was just some kind of magic then, I thought to myself.

Then I snuck back through the house and out the way I had arrived. As I got further and further away from the archmages house, I began to wonder just how I was going to be able to get off of the campus in the first place. The whole thing was surrounded by a massive, enchanted wall.

I decided to head for the main gate, hoping that I would be able to find a way out there. As I arrived I saw that the whole area was filled to the brim with guards. There was not one spec of shadow as well, due to that they have filled the area with torches as well.

I grimaced to myself, I could not see another way of me being able to escape from this place. So I decided to just walkabout to the gate and to see what the guards would do, after all. I had to leave.

The guards didn't even notice me approaching until I was right next to them, at the gate. They all had been too focusing on what was going on outside, to notice what was going on the inside.

The guards, that I was stood before. Looked shocked as he looked up and down.

"Who are exactly are you?" He questioned. He did not like the look of me at all and even had already drawn his weapon, not only that some of his fellow guards had also drawn their weapons and approached me from all sides so that I could not escape.

I looked at them for a moment, trying to see what they would do and if there was any kind of gap in the hole. I could not see any hole though, and it seemed like they were already to strike me down, the moment a signal was given.

"I am a student here. My name is Adoh. I wish to leave the tower and head home. Do you have a problem with that?"

My sudden questioning of him instead, took him off guard a little. He indicated to one of the guards to go check something, I assumed it was some kind of notebook to prove that I was a student here and not just someone lying to get out.

After what the archmage had mentioned about a nightingale, whatever that was? I guessed this is why the whole place seemed to be on high alert. It was weird though, who was this nightingale? Well, more accurately I guess what are they?

A few minutes later, the other guard came back. He just nodded at the one questioning me, causing him to let out a sigh in relief.

"Studnet Adoh, I do not know why you wish to leave the tower, but may I suggest that you be very careful. You should have heard the announcement. It is dangerous outside."

I looked at him for a second, "I still wish to go."

He seemed so annoyed a little that I have had completely ignored what he had said. He then waved his hands, and the gates slowly opened wide enough for one person to leave.

From the other side, I heard the clip and clopping of a horse's hooves. Turning around, I saw one guard leading a horse out towards where I was standing. Walking it up to next to me, the guard passed me the reins.

I looked at the guard who was questioning me questioningly.

He smiled lightly. "I can not have a mage walking around when he should be riding, now go. You have some kind of reason to leave."

As I got onto the horse, I smiled to myself thinking. If only he knew what I had done, he would be kicking himself after knowing that he just helped a murderer escape.

Not wanting to talk anymore. I rode the horse out of the gate and choose a random direction to head off into. I had no idea, where the person from the Shadows would be meeting though. As I rode on, I looked around a few times trying to see the person. It was at this time I realized that I had no money on me at all! Let alone any food or drink!

I headed off quicker down the road, hoping that I would be able to find a tavern or at least an inn, where I could find some food.

As I headed down the road, I then saw what appeared to be an inn on the side of the road. I slowed the horse down so that it stopped right outside of the inn. As I looked at it, it was open. I could hear people laughing and yelling and also smell the sweet smell of mead.

It smelt so good.

I quickly brought the horse and tied it up in the stables. Not saying a word to the stable hand. He didn't say anything as well, just looking at the sword hanging off of my wais.

I walked over to the entrance into, the inn. Pushing open the door I walked inside.

The owner yelled out over the boisterous noise, "Welcome, find yourself a seat!"

I nodded over towards the owner and looked around trying to find myself a seat. As I looked around I saw someone who I recognized! It was my master!

As I walked over to where she was sitting, I wondered why she was here and not in at the tower, where she is a teacher?

She didn't that I was there until I sat down opposite her. Her face was full of surprise.

"Adoh, why are you here? You should be still in the tower!"

Wait. It came to me suddenly, how did she know it was me who broke into the tower? It can't be that she is in the...

"You are a shadow master?" I asked curiously.

She looked at me with a sly smile and nodded.

"You think I would take you on as a disciple and began to..have fun if I wasn't part of the shadows?"

I looked at her shocked, I just did not see this coming! She was a shadow and yet she had not said a single word. Not once.

"Why did you not tell me?"

She smiled a little at my question.

"Orders. I was not allowed to reveal my identity to you, until you were ready to know or if you had worked it out yourself...I wanted to tell you, I did. It is just orders are orders."

Her explanation seemed to make sense to me and yet it also didn't. I guess it was just how the shadows worked.

Then she looked at me again. "Have you killed the archmage then?"

I nodded at her question, causing her smile to widen greatly.

"Although, he mentioned something about a person or group called the nightingales."

At the mention of the nightingales. Her face froze.

"Nightingales, are the Mocian empires assassins and spy organization. They also are our, shadows' most hated enemy. We must kill them on-site, now that there is a report of them being in the region, more of us must be called. We must find and kill them all!... Anyway, before that, I think we should carry on where we left off...Follow me, up to my room."

She then stood up and took me by my hand. Dragging me up to the stairs and straight-up of them, and into what I assumed to be the room she has rented.
