Chapter 2

When Sarah got home from work that day she was exhausted. Her day had gone well in terms of her moody boss, but it was tiring nevertheless.

To make her day a little worse, the rain and lightning still hadn't stopped and she came home soaked. 'Damn I always forget my umbrella.'

Taking a shower and putting on dry clothes, she had dinner and turned on the news.

Sarah had shifts that were 12 hours long, so it was almost nine at night when she got home.

Turning on the news, she sat down on her couch and whipped out her phone.

She was so tired, she fell asleep with her phone in her hand, her thumb poised to swipe left on her novel.

At about four in the morning, she awoke abruptly to the news saying "Breaking news. This just in. We have recieved reports that, as of now, 14 people have each been killed in the same way. Each death happened tonight, spread out over the entire city of Seattle. Every person killed was under the age of 13, and each died to a broken neck." The reporter paused to gather her thoughts, then took a shaky breath and continued. "Those among the dead are: Alec Steele, Alex Zenith, Annabele Schtein, Carole Baskins, Salem Argenti, Stephen Langley, Mohammed Ali..."

Sarah stopped listening at 'Salem Argenti'. She felt she had lost a brother. Despite not seeing him for more than a half hour every day, she felt incredibly close to him. Salem was her confidante, friend, brother from another mother, smart, kind, friendly, and now he was gone.
