Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Fight Begins
The Main Altar of the Skull Lord Temple
Reed, who had till now not moved a muscle apart from constantly chanting incantations finally opened his eyes.
"Oh, Great Skull Lord. How long have I waited to see this day!! Finally, the day has come when the Skull Marked Temple can reign supreme on this entire plane. Muhahaha..." Reed cried out in adulation.
In front of him, the huge abomination was now burning with black flames. Slowly, the entire outer body along with all the flesh burnt away and all that remained was a burning skeleton which seemed to be the harbinger of doom and destruction.
"Liaison, you are awake!!" Number One exclaimed as he came rushing in. "Liaison, I have bad news. The intruders have thrown all caution to the wind and are charging towards the main altar at a frightening speed. Almost all of our monks have perished in their hands. What should we do now?"
"Number One, O' Number One. Why are you so anxious? Look, our Lord has arrived on this plane. With him here, do you think we need to be afraid of a few ants? Come, Bask in his glory!! Hahaha," Reed paid no attention to Number One's concerns.
"Is that... our Lord?" Number One's finally realized the presence of the burning skeleton in the middle of the altar.
"Liaison, why am I unable to sense any kind of energy from the Skull Lord? Has he not been formed completely?" Number One was puzzled since he couldn't sense anything from the skeleton other than its eerie appearance.
"Hahaha, Number One, just you wait... the summoning will be complete any second now. Observe," Reed said calmly as he kept staring at the burning skeleton.
Suddenly, the doors to the altar were burst open by a very powerful thrust and an old man in white robes came rushing in followed by the rest of the human party.
"Oh God, This Evil Lord has almost completely descended!! Everyone, attack these two evil monks while I take out the Evil Lord. Do not let them interrupt me" The Old Man screamed as he immediately launched an attack towards the burning skeleton.
The other humans immediately followed the old man's instructions and launched themselves towards the monks.
"Evil Monks, take this" Janet shouted as she drew her sword as it got covered with dark red flames.
"Severing Slash"
"Humph, Just a 'Holy' ranked knight wishes to fight me head-on? Such impudence!" Reed snickered as he waved his hands. Immediately, a black sphere appeared around him and Number One and completely negated Janet's attack.
"What? How is this possible?" Janet was shocked. All the energy that she had channeled into her sword completely vanished the moment it came in contact with the black sphere.
"Don't bother. With your weak strength, it would be a pipe dream to land a single blow on me. Train for another thousand years before you come to fight me again Girl, Hahaha" Reed laughed.
"Hah, old dog, keep laughing. Let us see how long you are able to maintain your cocky attitude. Once Nyler deals with your stupid Evil Lord, let us see how you are going to deal with all of us." Asin retorted.
Just by observing the black sphere, he knew that unless all of them went completely all out, they stood no chance at doing any damage to the sphere. So, he decided to provoke Reed in order to get his guard down.
"Oh?! Are you sure about that? Why don't you take a look then?" Reed ridiculed as he gestured towards the direction of the burning skeleton.
The moment the human party heard Reed's words, they immediately looked in the direction Nyler had rushed into. But what they saw left them completely dumbstruck and horrified!
Nyler had apparently attacked with his all powerful perforating thrust, but the blade of the sword seemed to have been stopped just with just the index finger of the burning skeleton.
"Just what is this obscenity..." The human party couldn't believe their eyes. After all, the attack was made by a Divine Sword Saint, right? Shouldn't it take at least more than a single finger to block his attack?
The skeleton slowly raised its right hand and grabbed the sword that was thrusting at this finger with his palms. With a slight flick of the wrist, the skeleton tugged at the sword.
*Crack*
Just like that, the sword, that had drawn energy from a Divine Sword Saint, broke into millions of pieces.
Suddenly, the eyes of the skeleton that had been hollow all this while, seemed to get a blue light in the shape of an eyeball, as if the skeleton had finally woken up from its slumber.
"ROOAAAARRR"
"Ahhhhh" The entire human party apart from Nyler cried out as everyone fell to their knees, desperately trying to cover their ears. The pressure in the hall had become so high that none of them could even breathe properly.
"Hahaha, ants, despair before true power. " Reed laughed maniacally as he witnessed everyone cowering on the ground.
Finally, the skeleton started moving. It instantly raised its right foot and gave Nyler a kick in the chest.
"BOOM"
Nyler was flung like a broken kite as he crashed and broke through the walls of the hall and kept rolling until he hit the walls of the corridor
"Old Man Nyler," Asin immediately rushed to check on his fallen comrade. After all, Nyler was the strongest person in their party, and he was their only shot at surviving this nightmare.
"I am alright," Nyler groaned as he pushed himself up. Even though he suffered only from external injuries upon taking this hit, the fact that he was completely helpless to do anything even when he knew that the hit was coming had set off the warning bells in his head.
"Asin, take Jane and Ashin and immediately go back to the empire. You people have no chance of fighting this monster and helping me in any manner. When you reach the empire, immediately inform the Emperor about a True Evil God being summoned into the plane and ask him to prepare Light God avatars. I will try to stall for time as much as possible. Now go!!" Nyler instructed as he mumbled an incantation and pulled out another sword seemingly out of thin air.
"But Grandpa Nyler, How can we leave we? You will certainly die!!"
"Yes, This Ashin has never left a comrade behind. We will all live together."
By then, both Ashin and Janet had struggled over to Nyler's side. Upon hearing that Nyler wanted them to leave, they immediately voiced their dissatisfaction.
"If you weaklings do not leave, then we all can only die here," Nyler said sternly. "IF you leave, only then can I truly attack that monster without restraint. I cannot do that while caring for you. Now stop arguing and get lost!!"
"Yes, we will leave immediately," Asin was much more level headed and immediately decided to leave. This way, at least the empire would have some time to prepare.
"Fools, do you think this your bedroom that you can come and go as you please?" Suddenly they heard Reed's voice roar out.
"None of you is allowed to leave. You ants shall be the first to witness the glory of our Skull Lord. Don't worry, the people from your empire shall soon follow behind you. Then, maybe in the netherworld, you guys can form another empire together. Hahaha"
The burning skeleton moved, stepping out of its position in the middle of the altar. But just as he was about to launch at the Human Party, the light in his eyes flickered. Even the flames in his body seemed to dim down for a moment before picking back up.
"Huh?! What just... Ah! the brat!! Number One, what about that brat?"
"Liaison, I had to feed the boy the pill which you had given to me. There were some issues that forced me to do give him the pill over allowing him to naturally break down."
"Taking the pill is fine, but that doesn't mean that the Soul Energy should already show signs of depletion. It seems that there is something wrong with that brat. Hurry, we need to take a look." Reed said hurriedly.
The peculiarity in the burning skeleton did not go unnoticed by Nyler. He immediately seemed to have a eureka moment.
'Ah, it looks like this True Evil Lord still has some weak points that we can take advantage of!!'
"Everyone, there is a change in the plans. Go all out and fight those two monks in the black shield. Do not allow them to do anything other than fighting you. I have a haunch that the Evil Lord will not be able to maintain itself in this plane for too much time. before being pushed out forcibly from this plane. We just need to endure until that point in time comes."
"Just don't those pesky monks get even a second to try and pull something off," Nyler said as he rushed to attack the Skull Lord.
"Leave that to us," The other humans responded as they started to gather elemental energies into their weapons while activating their cultivation to the maximum.
