Chapter 28: Engagement Party, Part 5

They were looking for their parents, and assumed they were with the elders. Upon entrance, Yiyi and Xian politely bowed towards the family heads. Since it wasn't just their parents in the room, the teenagers had to show that they understood their place. The elders were a bit surprised at how polite the children in front of them acted. Most of their grandchildren were quite arrogant and disregarding towards them. Xian had just been going along with Yiyi, he agreed with being polite, but usually didn't go through the trouble of it. The Sheng family observed Yiyi's modest and elegant greeting, but when the other Elders still hadn't told them to rise, the Madam felt irritated. "Yiyi-ah, Xian, Come over here." Her voice had a gentle tone, but when she glanced toward the elders, her eyes held a chilly look. The most respected elder, and Sheng Yiyi and Liang's grandfather, had become embarrassed as he gave a light cough. He had forgotten to tell his adorable grandchild to get up. She had become such a beauty in such a short time that he was filled with pride. The Madam felt that her daughter had developed the aura of a young maiden in love. She gave her a quick poke in the ribs, then she turned, and began to announce to the elders, "My husband and I have formed a formal engagement with the Chao family. We ask the elders for your blessing." Yiyi understood her mother's intention, and followed suit by slightly bowing her head. A few of the elders had a forced smile on their face, clearly seeing how polite Yiyi was, the chances of her being a good daughter-in-law were very high, however she had already been taken before they could even bring up a propoposition. Other than the few disgruntled elders, everyone nodded in approval of the engagement. The Sheng and Chao family had to check with the elders before they gave the formal announcement to everyone else that had attended the party. After receiving approval, the families bowed and left the room. The large group left towards the larger hall, to announce it to everyone that had gathered for the evening. Master Sheng started, "Thank you all for coming tonight!" he let out a hearty laugh, then continued, "Tonight's celebration isn't just for the opening of our new hotel.." He glanced toward his wife to let her give the big news, "Yes, tonight we are also gathered to celebrate the unity between the Chao and Sheng family." As she gave the announcement, she glanced toward Xian. The boy was a bit internally surprised, but took control of the situation. He once again put his arm out for Yiyi to grab as they walked towards the balcony. From the first floor, Yiyi and Xian looked well matched. One with possessive and sharp eyes, and the other with an elegant, but gentle demeanor. The crowd below had been slightly stunned, then the sound of clapping echoed throughout the hall. Their engagement had finally been announced. After the event's climax, the evening seemed to end rather quickly. Yiyi had still been slightly worried about the engagement's repercussions, but didn't dwell for too long, after all she was now back to being a teenager. On top of that she was a teenager without any hobbies. Diving into her own thoughts, Yiyi had decided that this weekend she would work on getting better stats...
