Chapter 14: A Deal?

Chao Xian's eyes shook for a second before he regained his composure, "hmmm?" He tried to brush off what she just said, despite the whiplash it gave him from such a calm beauty murmuring a cuss after he introduced himself. Yiyi gave a forced smile. As she fell into her own thoughts.

...

SHit! Shit! SHIT! ShIt! ShiT! Shit.. Oh god. I am utterly fucked. Chao Xian.. Nonono maybe it's a different Chao Xian. Yea that's gotta be it, I'll ask the system when I get back to the apartment, it can't be the villain, plus he wasn't engaged in the novel. Ah god why is he staring at me.. ah okay I'll smile.

...

Xian gazed intently at Yiyi whose brain was malfunctioning after hearing his name. After a short pause she bluntly spoke to him in a serious tone, "You don't want this engagement, right?" Xian was previously uninterested in getting engaged, and planned to try to convince his father to break it. However the minute Yiyi started freezing up when she heard his name, his attention had been drawn in again. "Hmm, I do." After a pause of silence Yiyi unconsciously started trying to convince him to change his mind. She, as well as Xian knew that the only way the engagement would get annulled is if both sides asked for it. While Yiyi was trying her hardest to persuade Xian to help annul the engagement, Xian was becoming more and more interested as she tried to slip out of his grasp. His eyes changed from indifference to the look of someone who wants to bother a kitten that is just trying to peacefully sleep. "Why would you keep the engagement??" Yiyi blurted out, Xian had been going against her expectations of the villain. She expected the villain to be a pushover like he was in the book, but the more she talked to him the less he seemed like the novel's villain. The boy patiently thought of an answer for her, "It's really a hassle for me if we broke it off, honestly I would just have to get engaged again, and chances are it's the same for you as well." Yiyi was speechless, she shifted her hand to her now slightly tilted head and thought for a moment, he wasn't necessarily wrong... Chances were that her parents would make another engagement if the current one was broken off. While she tried so hard to convince him, she was the one who was persuaded. The thought that he was the villain kept slipping from her mind, his character was too different, along with far too logical to be so stupidly in love with the female lead who was blatantly clear she wasn't interested. The girl still wanted to run away, but she refused to leave the original Yiyi's family behind. She imagined what would happen to them if she disappeared, and with it her heart ached. "Mmm. It's a deal" She nodded in agreement and continued, "Then... until one of us falls in love, we can keep this temporary arrangement" Yiyi had said this under the assumption that Xian would still fall in love with the female lead.

...

Yiyi was unaware of how the novel actually finished, but she thought the villain must have gone through too big of a personality change for him to shift from his current attitude to his hypothetical future one. Yiyi had started to lead Xian back towards the room where the adults were conversing. "Yiyi" The boy called out to her before they completely left the garden. The girl stopped, and looked back at him. He knelt down and declared with formality, "I look forward to our engagement, my Fiance." He gave a smile to his usually indifferent face, giving it a large amount of allure. Yiyi's cheeks flushed slightly, then as she made a deal in her heart she said with a gentle, "I hope you fall in love quickly Xian." She sincerely wished for the boy in front of hers to achieve happiness, she figured if he was as he is now, his chance of winning over the heroine was high. All of her actions had been filled with sincerity, as a somewhat desperate plea for him to be happy. The girl wasn't sure as to why she wanted so much for him to be happy, but the intention was there. She kept the gentle smile on her face as she walked toward Xian to help him up. Xian had been repeatedly surprised by the unnecessarily charming girl that stood before of him. He took her hand, and she quickly pulled him up and they both headed back towards the mansion. It wasn't long before they had reached the room that the adults had just finished their business in.

...

Weiyuan Chao, took his son and left, and with it both sides were bombarded with questions. While Yiyi's family were trying to ascertain whether she had her heart stolen or not, the boy on the other hand was being attacked by questions that had an underlying tone of lewdness. He quickly brushed them off, and thought back to the girl who had told him in a distant yet gentle tone, 'fall in love quickly' In a mumbled and arrogant voice he scoffed, "Ha- we will see who falls first won't we?"
