35. Condition
( THIRD PERSON POV )
As Rei told them, the couple made their way in to Dr. Jim's office wondering why he called them. They entered the office with nervousness evident in their eyes. Both had the same thought, 'Is there a problem with Rei's mentality.' They both quietly sat in front of Jim.
They saw Jim looking through some notes in his hands so they patiently waited in their seats. As time passed both of them felt their nervousness increase.
Then Jim kept the notes down and took off his glasses. Seeing him ready to talk, Shirogana asked him, "Is there a problem, Jim."
Jim exhaled air while sighing. He then looked at both of them and said, "How is Rei at home? Is he getting along well?"
They both turned their gaze towards each other in confusion. Narumi turned back and answered, "Yes, Jim-san, he is doing all right. He gets well along with the kids and also helps me cook sometimes. He doesn't show any signs of grief."
Hearing her, Jim nodded and said nothing in return. He wrote some notes down and asked again, "So does he talk about his dad or baseball."
This time Shirogana signed and answered, "No Jim, he doesn't talk about Tensei much. I have seen him several times looking at a photo of him and Tensei for a long time. As for baseball, he won't go near it anymore. He tries to stay away from it."
Jim nodded and took notes again. He then said, "Ok then that's enough, I got all I wanted to know."
"So Jim-san is there a problem with Rei. Will he become normal again," asked an anxious Narumi. Beside her, Shirogana was also looking at Jim with the same look.
He looked at both of them and signed, seeing how anxious both are. He cleared his throat and said in a rational tone, "ugh.. ugh, how should I say it. Rei's situation is complex. He is likely not trying to accept Tensei's death, even when he knows he is dead."
Listening to him saying this as the couple gulped their saliva, Shirogana slowly asked, "So, Is there nothing we can do Jim?"
Jim replied, "We can cure it, Shirogana, but it would take a lot of time for him to become normal. I would have to meet him probably twice a month and it would be a slow process. We can not force him and keep stress on him, it would deteriorate his condition further as he is already fragile."
The couple nodded in acknowledgment and said nothing. Seeing them agreeing with what he said, Jim continued, "So, for now let's take it slow. Try to not make him remember anything sad or stressful and be normal around him, don't make him feel discomfort."
Shirogana then nodded and said, "Ok then Jim. we will do as you say."
The three then continued to make some casual talk for a while.
Jim then said looking "Ok then Shirogana. We will end today here. I will ask my receptionist to send you an email about the appointments for Rei every month." and stood up from his seat.
The couple also stood up from their seats and Shirogana said, "Ok, then Jim. My wife will bring Rei as I would have to go back to Tokyo again."
They then made their way out. Both Shirogana and Jim said their goodbyes as Rei came towards them. Jim kneeled and gave Rei chocolate and told goodbye to him.
They made their way to the car and drove back in silence. Upon reaching the house, Narumi went inside while Shirogana stopped Rei as he wanted to talk to him.
Shirogana asked Rei, "Rei, how do you feel about the therapy? Do you feel any better?"
Rei nodded and replied, "It's fine, Oji-san. I think it will help me."
Shirogana nodded and went inside with Rei. Upon going inside the hall, everyone was there watching the television except Narumi, who was preparing lunch for everyone. Rei and Shirogana also sat with them. Rei sat next to Meiko as it was the only place free.
Meiko, noticing Rei sitting down, asked him in an inaudible voice, "Rei, how was it?"
Rei nodded and replied, "It was all right, Meiko. I would have to meet him twice in a month from now on."
Meiko nodded and sat quietly. Narumi called everyone as lunch was ready to eat. After having lunch, Rei helped Narumi wash the dishes. He came back after helping and noticed everyone sitting again.
Shirogana called Rei, "Rei, come and sit down, I want to talk to you guys."
Rei sat next to Sora. Seeing everyone sitting Shirogana nodded and said, "Tomorrow we all will go to the new school you guys will go to get you registered."
The kids nodded and said nothing. Shirogana then turned towards the siblings and asked, "So, both of you aren't joining the school team right."
Both the siblings nodded and Sora said, "Yes we both will join a senior league until high school baseball."
"Ok then we check that also out tomorrow. There is a team near named Kanzi Senior." Shirogana continued turning his gaze towards Rei, "Rei if you feel uncomfortable in school. Search for Rei and Meiko. Both of them will be in the Middle school section."
Rei nodded, hearing him. All three of them went their separate ways. The siblings went to play baseball together in the yard behind the house. Rei went back to his room and slept for a while.
Feeling his body shaking, Rei opened his eyes, fluttering them. He saw Sora looking at him. He raised his body and asked Sora, "What happened Sora."
Sora then said, "Come have dinner."
It shocked Rei. He. He saw the time and noticed it was time for dinner. He followed Sora towards the dining table. He saw everyone already seated.
Shidou noticing him coming asked Rei, "You slept for quite a while Rei. Come sit down we shall have dinner."
Rei nodded and sat. After eating, Rei went to his room and slept again.
