Chapter 34: 34. The Treatment

( REI POV )

As I took the seat across Dr. Tenga, I noticed the room we are in. the office was spacious and neatly furnished with a couple of couches and television. The room as a whole looked very high-end.

As the doctor was busy talking to the couple I continued to look around the room. There were a couple of photos hung on the wall. Some were certificates while others were with people wearing a white coat like him, probably doctors.

The doctor then turned his attention on me after having a chat with the couple. He promptly introduced himself, "Hello you must be Rei, Shirogana told me about you. My name is Jim Tenga. You can call me Dr.Tenga."

I immediately returned the greeting introducing myself. After an exchange of pleasantries, he turned back to the couple and asked them, "Shirogana, the two of you can go and wit outside as I talk with Rei over here. I will call you back after we both are done."

The couple nodded and made their way out. Now it was just me and Dr.Tenga. I was very nervous about the questions he might ask. The feeling increased as my legs started to tap, my arms around me holding me tight.

He then said with the same soothing voice, Itès alright Rei. Don't feel nervous about it."

He proceeded to take a notepad and a pen from his drawer and held it. He asked me with a smile, "So Rei, how was your day"

I momentarily stopped, unexpected by the simple question. I replied, "It was fine Dr.Trmga."

He nodded and asked me again, "How is your stay with the Kamizato family Rei? Is it going well"

I nodded at the simple question and answered a bit better than the previous one, "It is going well. Everyone is kind to me and helps me whenever I am in need."

He noted something in his notepad and continued to ask me. I proceeded to answer him a bit free of the earlier tension which I felt. He asked all general questions and carefully listened to the answers I gave. He occasionally made notes on the answers I gave him.

He then asked me, "So Rei, how are you dealing with your father's death."

The question was like a thunderbolt which sparked my memory. I remembered the day once again. How I saw my dad leaning on the pole. His bloody figure and how he laid there motionless. Remembering all this caused my chest pain. I clutched my chest trying to ease the pain, as sweat accumulated on my forehead.

I then felt a hand on my back. I looked up only to see Dr.Tenga standing beside me smiling at me. He then just said, "Don't force yourself to answer Rei. We can take things slowly for now."

I nodded and he then sat back on his seat. He noted several things down and turned back towards me. He proceeded to ask another question, "So Rei, I hear you feel unwell when you play baseball. Can you tell me how you feel."

The feeling started to rise once more. The feeling of fear I feel once I play baseball and how I see dad staring at me. I then took a deep breath to calm down. I felt a little relieved but there was fear still present.

I replied in a low voice, " I feel scared. I could see my dad staring at me with a ball in his hand. My chest would feel heavy and my breathing becomes ragged." imagining the scene once again.

I drank some water from the glass on the table calming me down a little. He nodded and took some notes.

He then asked, "Are you sleeping well Rei."

I didn't know how to answer his question. It's true I haven't been able to sleep since the incident as I get dreams of it. I replied, "I haven't slept well since the accident occurred. I get dreams of Otou-san in them and I wake up immediately from them."

He proceeded to take some notes based on my answer. He then proceeded to make a casual discussion to soothe the environment. The talk helped to relieve the nervousness in me as I felt a bit relieved.

He then saw the time and said, "Ok then Rei, this is the end of our discussion. We will meet once a week from now on until we clear your condition. Please go and call Shirogana and his wife. You can stay outside as I talk with both of them."

I nodded and got up. I bowed a little and expressed my gratitude and made my way out. As I exited, I saw both of them looking towards me. Narumi-san got up and came near, she asked in a worried voice, "How was it, Rei? Do you feel any problem?"

I replied, "I'm fine Oba-san. Dr.Tenga is calling for you both."

Shirogana-san nodded and made his way inside together with Narumi-san. Now left all alone, I sat on the bench and taught about what happened inside the room. I was snapped out of my thoughts as I noticed some people talking.

I looked around and noticed there were several people in the clinic of different ages. Some looked tense while others had an indifferent expression on their face.

Many people came and went. It was a rush hour as it was a weekend enabling people to get their problems checked with the doctor.

After some time the couple came outside together with Dr.Tenga. I stood up and made my way towards them.

Seeing me coming Dr.Tenga smiled and kneeled to my height and took out something from his pocket. It was chocolate. He then said, "Take it Rei. We shall meet every week from now one."

I nodded and took the chocolate he offered and kept it in the pocket. Shirogana-san and the doctor shook hands and we then made our way out.

We sat in the car and Shirona-san drove back home. I took out the chocolate he gave and ate quietly in the backside while looking out of the window.
