Chapter 4: The world changed
Time went back to normal.
Jake regained his consciousness. He scanned his body to see if there is anything wrong. Then he saw a strange silver ring on his left-hand ring finger.
Jake was surprise and thought, "Where did this ring came from? What happened back there?".
"AHHHHHH". Then he heard a shout from his side. He saw the faces of his friend which was pale and clearly frightened.
"Oi Ja-ja-ake, did you see that?". CJ suddenly asked Jake.
Jake was confused with his friend for acting like this. "What should I see?".
"So you did not see? Is it only my imagi--".
"Da-da-the prophecy?". Monique interjected.
The couple stared at each other for a while.
Jake was totally confused of what is happening. He noticed that a lot of people nearby are acting weird all muttering prophecy something.
After a few seconds of staring the couple started talking with each other.
CJ asked her, "Do you think all of it is true?".
"I don't know, but it's weird that not only both of us saw that prophecy even the people around us seem to know about it".
"But if it's true then the world is nearing to an end, let's try saying that word".
"Status". The couple muttered at the same time.
A square gaming window appeared in front of them. It showed their name, age, heigh, mana, etc.
The two of them found it unbelievable that this was happening in front of them.
While still in the state of shock, both of them read their own information stated at the gaming window.
It was difficult for Jake to understand what the couple are talking about. He felt that today was really weird too many things happen and most of the time he can't understand anything about it.
"Can someone please explain to me what is happening?".
"Jake you seriously did not see anything?".
"I am telling you I saw nothing".
"Can't you see this gaming window in front of me?". CJ asked while drawing a box on the air.
"Nope? All I see is your hand drawing something weird".
CJ paused for a moment and decided to tell Jake.
"Listen bro, what we saw was some kind of prophecy wherein a group of followers of cataclysm will destroy the core of our world. According to the vision, the start of cataclysm will happen in three years".
"HAHAHAHA, nice joke that was fu----, are you serious".
Jake was surprised by the words of his buddy and thought he was joking. He observed CJ's face and
saw that he truly is not joking.
Most of the time CJ was a cheerful boy who's always smiling. The gravity of the situation was clearly shown in his face.
"Not only that, magical things will start to appear in our world, the gaming window that I was trying to show you is a proof of that".
BOOM~~
Suddenly, there was a loud sound of explosion that came nearby. All of them were shocked and saw a smoke rise towards the clouds.
"Bro, let's go home first, this situation is really weird and I need to contact my family to check up on them".
"Me too".
The couple suddenly ran leaving Jake confused with many questions.
Jake smiled helplessly and muttered, "Just what the fvck is wrong today?"
Jake went home and started to fiddle with his phone. He opened the social media and the topic was all about some kind of prophecy that the world will end soon.
"It seems like I am not the only one who didn't see the so called prophecy, truly weird".
He continued to scroll and saw articles about accidents caused by magic. Jake was shocked reading this occult word.
As he read the article, he saw videos of people using the magic. One particular video that caught his attention is a man who produced fire from his hands and controlled it. He remembered the
explosion a while ago.
It started to look like a fire snake dancing joyfully around his master.
He is starting to believe all of this as he continued to fiddle his phone.
RING~~RING~~~
His phone started to ring. His dad's name appeared from the screen of his phone. He pressed the answer button and started talking.
"What's up dad?"
"How's everything?"
"Everything is weird. People kept talking about some prophecy about the end of the world. And
there is that magic too. Just what the heck is happening?"
"You, did not see the prophecy?"
"Just what the heck is that prophecy? CJ was asking me that too?"
"Hmm so you did not see it, now that's weird, is it because of his mo--". His father murmured in a
low voice.
"Can you speak louder dad I can't hear you."
"Nothing, nothing, all I can say now is that all of that is real and it is happening, check on the news
tonight, I am sure that the media will report it."
BEEP~~BEEP~
"Dad? Oi? Hello? Moshi moshi?".
Jake threw his phone on the bed. He cursed and muttered, "That old man is always getting on my
nerves, always acting so mysterious, FVCK!".
After a few minutes he opened the tv and switched it to the news channel. Reports were all about the prophecy and magic. It also included some mysterious things and events like meteor shower which landed in inhabited, snows in dessert, and melting of ice in the poles.
Jake took some time to absorb all these inside his head. He thought that being a high school assassin is already cool enough but now magic appeared out of nowhere.
"Flash report, all the presidents in every country are conducting an emergency meeting to tackle this strange situation. Stay tuned for more news update".
Jake stared helplessly at the tv. "It looks like I won't learn more about this situation until tomorrow".
6:00 a.m. March 8,2020, Assas household
Jake finished his morning training and started preparing his breakfast. He opened the tv and started listening to the news.
"Last night, the president of all the different country conducted a meeting in order to assess and give solutions to our current situation. The president of our country is here today to give us a rundown of what happen".
Then a clip showing the president of the country started playing.
"Good morning my dear citizens, I know most of you are confused because of the situation yesterday but some might already know of this because of the prophecy that they saw".
Jake's mouth twitched and thought, 'No SHIT Sherlock'.
"But for the sake of everyone, I am going to explain what our current situation is.."
The president continued,
"Yesterday, prophecy about the end of the world showed up to inside our consciousness. He told us that a group of followers of cataclysm would bring ruin to our world in at most five years".
Jake felt chills listening to the president talking.
"But fear not my dear citizens, along with the prophecy, that entity who calls himself the God of multiverse gave us hope to pass this cataclysm".
"He gave us powers that belonged from the multiverse and a system that will help us cultivate those power. He calls it the Root System".
"It functions like the gaming window inside an MMORPG game. The leaders are still trying to figure out all of its use therefore, I advise all those who awakened your power to pay attention on how you use it".
"And to those who are thinking on trying to use their power in a wrong way, be warned as you are not the only awakened person".
Suddenly the eyes of the president which was originally black changed to red.
"Lastly all non-governmental and school activities are cancelled for we are still figuring out how to tackle this situation".
The report ended with that and Jake turned the tv off to contemplate on the things that are happening right now.
He remembered the gaming window that both the president and CJ was talking about.
Remembering what CJ and Monique said for it to appear he decided to experiment on it.
"Status".
He waited for 30 seconds and nothing happened. His facial muscles started to twitch as he started getting embarrassed for acting like a chunibyou.
'No use getting ashamed on these things. Right now, the world changed from normal into fantasy'.
