Chapter 17: Thinking About my Home
As I hovered outside the mouth to my cave, I noticed once again how odd it is that nothing made this mountain their home. There are many beings that can easily create craves, yet nothing did. It's odd because this is a perfect place to call home. It is on a ley line intersection and the surroundings are beautiful. Speaking of something beautiful, my cave is the opposite. It is drab, dark, and ugly. I really want my home to look better. The only problem is that I have no idea how to decorate. The first thing I want is a light source. I have night vision, but other races don't. If visitors can't even see the walls, what's the point of decorating them? Using fire as a light source would be good, it could also make me look really intimidating. However, fire needs fuel, and that is too much effort. For other aspects of my redecorating, I think I'll leave the general shape of the cave alone as the natural look is great. However, I will add a smaller cave or two connected to this one. I do like waking up to the view of the outside, but I feel a bit exposed. I must also get something soft for my bed, but I don't know what to get.
As I finished my new to-do list, I used earth magic to form another cave. I don't know what to use as my bed, but that doesn't mean i cant have a new place to sleep.
After finishing my new room, I thought about anything that I could use for my redecorating. I could use leaves for my bed, but they would go rotten, and probably wouldn't be very nice anyway. My best idea so far is to see what humans use, as they always manage to surprise me. That means I have even more reason to go to a human town, but I still don't have a solution to make them not run in terror. This aside, I should probably get back to what I wanted to do originally - finding the nearby strong monsters. I had talked to the wolf pack, but it is unlikely there aren't any other strong beings around. I should really stop getting sidetracked. Even after me getting distracted by home renovations, there was still a long time until nightfall, so I flew towards the lake while using Scan to search for anything strong.
After a little while searching, I didn't find anything noteworthy, apart from something in the lake. It was very odd though, I could tell there was something very strange nearby, but it was wierdly suppressed and none of the nearby monsters seemed to react to it. 'This area really is wierd. Above average monsters everywhere, abandoned mountain that would be a perfect home and now this strange aura. It is something strong and unnatural. I wonder what it is?' I lay down in a clearing not to far from the lake, thinking about what could be the cause of the aura I can feel. I think it has something to do with the mountain being abandoned, because this lake is next to my mountain, and if the other monsters could sense this aura, they would definitely stay away from the lake. That being said, I dis notice that there were fewer monsters the closer to the mountain I got, but this is a mystery for another day. It is almost almost night and the spot I'm lying in is particularly comfy, and I don't want to make the effort flying back home, so I'll just sleep out here tonight.
