MY TEACHER IS MY HUSBAND
I thought Dad and Tita Barbara were having an affair. The day we are about to meet each other, Dad will tell me that they already arranged our marriage - Tita Barbara's son and I.
Mom and Tito Michael had agreed 18 years ago before I was born. The two, Dad and Tita Barbara agreed to honor the agreement of the late Tito Michael and Mom.
I was mistaken. Gary Andrews, my Calculus teacher, became my husband.
A week ago, Dad announced that we are having an out of the country trip. Of course I was really excited. After what happened in Jacko's I felt that Dad is trying to reach out.
Before we went, he told me that we are meeting some family friends at New Port. The idea made me uncomfortable but I didn't let my mood be ruined by some anxious ideas. At the airport, I saw familiar faces. Geez, Tita Barbara and a handsome guy waving at us.
No way, it can't be. I try to calm myself. The guy showed respect to Dad and Dad greeted Tita
Barbara.
"Dad? What's the meaning of this?", I gritted.
"Calm down, we can talk about that later." Dad said calmly.
We reached the Andrews Mansion...
Tita Barbara explained to us..
Gary, Ava.. Robert and I have something to tell you.
"You barely know each other since a year after you were born Ava, we already moved here to New Port", Tita Barbara explained.
"Michael and Michelle were best friends. They decided 18 years ago that whenever they both ended up having a boy and a girl child these two would be married when they reached the right age. We decided to honor that agreement" Dad explained.
Our jaw dropped! What? Arranged marriage? Whose parents will do that? This belief is so ancient!
Gary stood up and contested.. "Mom, how will you let me marry someone I barely knew?", he shouted.
I looked at Dad. I was shaking. No words are coming out of my mouth.
"Charleston Gabriel,you better not raise your voice! Your Dad and I didn't raise you like that." Tita Barbara shouted angrily.
He walked out and drove away from Andrews Mansion. Silence rule over the place after he left.. Dad.. Tita Barbara... and I...
The marriage was already arranged and in the matter of two days, I will be Mrs. Andrews.
I almost puke with the idea. Like why would I marry a stranger? I must enjoy my youth and be happy with my life..
The next day, Dad and Tita Barbara announced that we will be married tomorrow. I can't imagine Dad is allowing it. Why will he let these things happen to his only child?
As we head to New Port Town Hall. Gary didn't say anything, even a single word. All remain silent until we reached the Mayor's office.
After an hour, it's official. We are already married.
I was only wearing a simple white dress while Gary wore a simple polo shirt. No entourage, only family members. There's no fancy wedding preparations. I didn't even get the chance to have my bridal shower. Now, how will I tell my best friend Nina about it?
After the wedding we went on to a restaurant. The whole restaurant was reserved for us so we can talk privately.
*Clears throat...
"Gary, Ava, now that you are married, maybe we can talk to some of the conditions before you two leave New Port. Robert and I decided to continue business here in New Port. Everything will be provided for you guys so nothing to worry." Tita Barbara said.
"First, I want you to know that you'll be living in the same house which I bought a few years back in Landston. It's only a 30 minutes ride to Woodberry, so Ava, nothing to worry about school". Next, Gary and Ava, you cannot divorce each other unless you reach 10 years of marriage. If one insists to do so will be disinherited. Third, you should love each other no matter what, in any case, we are family now." Dad explained.
The day went on and we were now back at the Andrews Mansion...
I just want this day to pass. I hope everything will be just a dream when I wake up.
