After a long day, Mallory sits on the couch. Seven tries to guess what's going on in her mind. Today, she is quite energetic to do things beyond her limitations. Although, he is happy to see Mallory enjoying herself. There is a part of him that says something is wrong. "Mallory, what is going on?"
The girl tilts her head in confusion. She shrugs her shoulders before touching the ring. "How did you become a grim reaper?"
The reaper gulps. He knew Mallory is going to ask it sooner or later. It's just that he is not yet prepared what to say.
The crazy visit to the haunted house made her famished, so she kindly asks Seven to teleport them to a wedding party. She didn't intend to crash a wedding. In her defense, she is only here for the free foods. Plus, the girl simply wants to look at the family gathering together and celebrating the lovely moment.
Just when she is starting to value life, she runs out of time. She sadly smiles thinking that she can't do any of that for she can only live in limited days.
It took Seven a while before he finally answers. "I killed myself." The girl gasps. Seven seems to be having a good life together with his friends. Lupin always brags the happy moments he shares with the Reaper.
"I was as arrogant as Lupin back then." He pauses. "My adoptive parents were teaching me how to drive. And when I finally knew how to operate the car, I show them a few tricks."
He sweeps his hair in one hand before continuing, "I remember how much I love it when they praise me."
"I was running at a high speed and when I notice the front car losing tracks. I hit the brakes, which is a completely wrong move because it sends our car flying around. It rolls down to the hill."
Mallory holds the Reaper's hand. She didn't know how the sweet-always-smiling man beside her, hides a dark secret. It breaks her heart to see her friend suffering. "When I wake up, they were gone." Mallory grips his hand tightly, realizing that it must be the reason why he also acted a bit scared when Axel got into a car accident.
One drop of a tear rolled down Seven's face but he still manages to continue the story. "I don't want to go back to the orphanage. I-I can't go back." The Reaper smile sadly at her. "So I killed myself. Hoping that I can be with them."
The Reaper closes his eyes, remembering the first person he delivers in the afterlife was his parents. Nothing hurts him more than the fact that he killed them. Up until today, he cannot forgive himself after what happened. He punishes himself when he chooses to end his life and thus, he becomes a grim reaper.
The Reaper doesn't like telling his story for he hates being pitied by other people. He also hates hearing the same things over and over again, like a broken disc recorder playing the same lyrics of a song.
Mallory and Seven enjoyed listening to music. It calms their nerves from all this drama. The Reaper felt like his chest is getting lighter. Perhaps, sharing his problem helps him a lot.
The girl chuckles, knowing that if she ever gives advice it will be a total cliche. People always say things like 'Everything is going to be okay' when it's clearly not. Spending her last three weeks with her guardian angel made her realize that even though we lose the person we love. There are still people that will continue to love us. Mostly, it is a loss that teaches us about the worth of things.
"You didn't lose them, silly." She places the Reaper's hand in his heart. "They are always been here."
"Just like how you are always here beside me." Her eyes are so different in moments like these, softer than the Reaper knew eyes could be.
The Reaper blushes. 'This girl is unpredictable.' He thought before standing up and offering his hand to dance. When he saw Mallory hesitating to grab his hand he said, "Shall we?"
"Are you serious?" She asks in disbelief.
"Oh, come on. It takes two to tango."
Mallory is a terrible dancer and the Reaper knows it very well. Originally, he plans to make fun of her on the dance floor. He wants Mallory to enjoy the moment and ease her mind from all her problems. As soon as the woman place her delicate hand in his, he placed his hand on her waist. And then whisked her onto the ballroom floor and they turned and twirled.
"Sorry." The woman said for the fifth time. Somehow, she keeps stepping on the Reaper's feet. She tried to do her best by looking at their feet, carefully moving it they dance to the beat.
The Reaper laughs. "Look at me, wife." He teases before lifting Mallory up. Well, good thing she is not wearing heels or it must have been hurt to step on her partner the entire time.
Finally, Seven is the one leading the dance with Mallory stepping awkwardly in his feet. Her body is tense up because of how close they are. "When will you stop reminding me that I call you husband?" She groans in frustration.
"Never." He whispers sending shivers in Mallory's spine. He traces the ring he gave to Mallory a while ago. It was a rosemary gold ring with a gleaming diamond in the middle.
"Take good care of my mother's ring."
"What?" The woman gasps. She was surprised to hear that someone will give her something very important. "Why did you give me your mother's ring?" She exclaimed.
"Well, I need to improvise. Since you didn't give me a heads up about your little plan a while ago."
The duo's movement flowed with a dazzling grace that took away the breath of every person in the audience. Now, the spotlight was no longer in the newlyweds instead it was focused on them. They didn't even realize that they were dancing along with the newlyweds until Mallory clumsily hit the bride.
"Oh, my! I'm so sorry." She said, her eyes are filled in horror as she watches the bride stand from the ground. "Here, let me help you," Mallory said, trying to help the woman but as she bows down, she accidentally hits the waiter. The champagne is poured in the bride's white dress. Now, the gown wasn't just a mess but also the bride's make up as it was smudged.
"Get out!" The bride yells as she burst in tears.
The Reaper yank Mallory's shoulder as they walk out. Once they were outside the venue, they look at each other and burst into a fit of laughter. "So much for free foods."
"I know!" The smiles were still there as tears of joy began to flow. This day is clearly been one of her favorites. Mallory didn't even realize it was already dark and she was tired as hell.
"We should do this more often."
His eyebrow raised as he begins to laugh again. "You mean crash weddings to get free food?"
"No!" She exclaimed. "I mean spend time together. You are always busy with your duties as a grim reaper. It's good to take your mind off things once in a while."
The Reaper couldn't agree more. Lately, his been dealing with lots of death that he couldn't count them anymore. After all, 65 million people die each year in the world. That is exactly 178, 000 each day, 7, 425 each hour, and 120 each minute. He sighs heavily. Even though he wasn't the only Reaper in the world, it exhausts him.
"I'm glad you are here." Seven whispers while looking at her silhouette figure.
