Chapter 13: A secret that he's keeping from her (1)
The next morning, Xia Xi woke up and scratched her head. "When did I fall asleep yesterday?..... OMG the sketch!," she rushes downstairs to see where it is." The sketch was left on the table all night and Xia Xi picked it up. "When did I finish this? Uhmmm it's not bad," as she scans the sketches. "Oh no, I'm late," as she rushes back up to get ready.
"It's not bad," as her grandmother examines it. "Continue with this pace and I believe you could get back on track sooner than I thought." Her grandmother hands back her sketches to her and smiles. "Did someone help you with this?" Xia Xi stood there stunned. "How did you figure it out?" Her grandmother lay back and smiled, "You're my granddaughter and I know your skills, and the way you draw. Was it Lei Kai Xuan that helped you?" Xia Xi nods her head, "Yesterday, he came by and gave me some ideas." "That's good, this is how teamwork is supposed to work. Even though I said that this is a project that could help our company's reputation, I don't want you to just do this because of the company, but for yourself too. Do you understand?" Xia Xi knows what she means and she responded yes.
Xia Xi went back to her room and finished her other sketches before bringing them over to Lei Kai Xuan. She sits in her office for hours and forgot that it passes lunch time, and now people are leaving to go home. "Xia Xi, I'm gonna go now." As she hands her the work that she finishes. "Wait. Fan Fan what time is it now?" "It's already 8:10pm," said Fan Fan. "It's this late already?" as checks the time again. "Okay, thank you. You may go now. Get home safe," as Xia Xi says goodbye to Fan Fan. Xia Xi stood up and took her cup to the pantry for another cup of coffee. While waiting for the coffee to boil, she stretches her neck and back. *GROWWWLSS* She touches her stomach and realizes that she hasn't eaten all day. She searches the pantry but there's no food besides cookies and chips. Suddenly, she heard footsteps coming. She took a tray in her hand and hid behind the pole. The pantry door opens and Xia Xi hits that person with the tray.
"Xia Xi, it's me!" as that person protects himself with his arms.
"Han Chen? Why are you here this late?" as she threw the tray to the side and helped him up from the floor.
"I came to bring you food. I heard from Fan Fan that you are still working in the office, so I decided to come and bring food over to you. I shouldn't have come if I knew that you're this abusive," as he massages his head.
"Well, I didn't mean to. Who knows that you would come and bring food," as she took the bag from him and placed it on the table. "What did you buy?" as she opens it up.
"Of course your favourite." Han Chen took a chair and sat next to her.
"Ooooo, beef noodles and chinese crepes? WOW!!! It looks so good," she picked up the chopsticks and started slurping the noodles.
"Eat slowly, there's no one fighting with you," as Han Chen passes tissues to her. "Look at yourself, eating such a mess." He wipes her face for her and she continues eating. He walked over and got her a glass of water to drink while eating. "So, why are you staying up so late when you're scared to be alone?" Xia Xi swallows her noodles, "because I don't have much time left. I've wasted so many times already and I have to continue working," as she continues eating. "You could bring it back home to do it." "But that'll just waste more time." *COUGH COUGH* Xia Xi chokes on the noodles while eating and Han Chen stoods up and pats her back. "Eat slowly," Xia Xi picked up the water and drank it. "Don't talk to me then. I have to concentrate on my food," as she scolded him.
Han Chen stoods up and wore his jacket, "Sorry, I can't stay with you. I have to go back right now. I still have some work left to finish." "Okay go go, thanks for the food," as she waves him goodbye with food still in her mouth. As Han Chen started heading out, he saw Lei Kai Xuan standing right at the door. "Are you going in?" as Han Chen asked him. Lei Kai Xuan gave him a cold stare and didn't answer him back. Han Chen knew he wouldn't answer, so he just left. After Han Chen went into the elevator, Lei Kai Xuan walked in and saw Xia Xi eating her food.
While eating, Xia Xi noticed someone staring at her. "Did you forget something?" Xia Xi didn't look up because she thought it's Han Chen. "I'm not Han Chen." Xia Xi drops her chopsticks and almost choked on her food again. She looked up and saw Lei Kai Xuan standing there watching her. Xia Xi pats her food there and looks at him. "What brings you here today?" "I came to ask you a question." Xia Xi looks at him confusingly, "What question?" He walks closer to her and looks at her. "What are you doing? Aren't you going to ask me something?" He didn't answer her and he suddenly wipes her mouth with his finger. "Ohh, thank you," as Xia Xi stood there frozen. Lei Kai Xuan walked away after and grabbed a chair, and sat down. "Yesterday, in your room I saw this sketch that was framed up. Do you know who it is?"
"Ahh, you're asking that? I don't know who it is since it's just a side face. And plus, how would I know that person."
"Are you sure you don't know who that is?" He got up and leaned closer to her. Xia Xi got startled and moved more back. "I swear, I don't know who he is." Lei Kai Xuan looks closer at her eyes and moves away. "I'm gonna get going now." As he heads out the door, Xia Xi stops him. "Who is that guy?" Lei Kai Xuan stopped from his track, but didn't turn back. "Someone that you shouldn't know." He starts walking out the door and leaving Xia Xi standing there confusingly. "So he knows who it is?"
