Chapter 9: ch 9
When I woke up after a night looking down on two beautiful women who are still asleep and decided to leave them slipping out of bed I go to wake up the other four in the servants quarters in the attached room and I see Carol is passed out Meghan is starting to get ready and two stunned elves who look like they didn't sleep. I didn't expect much from the gold digger Meghan at least has the decency to look ashamed waking up so late as far as the elves go I kind of expected it when saw their faces last night.
Me:"Meghan as soon as you're ready wake up Carol and have her fetch breakfast have it brought to the study then report back to me"
Meghan:"Yes sir, right away"
Without further ado I leave relax and take in my current situation. I'm currently in dangerous position where if I show too much talent I may be perceived as a threat to lord Eric's backer and if show too little I might get sent back to the country side where which is essentially a gilded cage but it seems lord Eric isn't satisfied with the status quo if I can use this without potentially becoming his puppet as seems to great affection for my mother I could possibly be propelled to becoming a power in my own right. I don't put too much hope in this family as no one has come to fetch me this morning for breakfast but that could have been because of what I did the butler while I'm pondering Meghan shows up with Carol in tow.
Meghan:"I wasn't here sooner lord Eric called saying you weren't forgotten about he just wanted to let you sleep in because he figured you would tired from "vigorous exercise" " she said this all with a surprisingly straight face as Carol sets up breakfast.
Me:"That's good then, please join me as apparently we have much to discuss"
Meghan:"Yes, as lord Eric has stated you are being recruited for a task which cannot turn down but you will not be sent in ill prepared"
Me:"Go on"
Meghan:"The elven high court is currently in talks with the empire to ease tensions between the two countries and begin trade as a show of faith three of the the high queen's children will be sent to the empire's national academy in five years as elves are isolationists and will not permit humans to enter their lands as it's a well known fact that elven lands are very rich in resources."
Me:"And how do I fit into all this?" I have an idea but want some confirmation on it
Meghan:"Well lord Eric's backers would like for this deal to come through as quickly as possible as most hold territories that share a border with the elven sovereignty imperial lord Victor Crowley in particular as we belong to his faction wants to get a strangle hold over it by using you as spirits are sacred to elves."
Me:"So what countermeasures are being taken to protect me and what training will I receive"
Meghan:"Lord Eric is trying to get his people in key positions in the academy to limit Crowley's involvement and control the information he receives as for training you under go your family's lineage training as well as a more intense magic and combat training as well as undergoing assassin apprenticeship until the day you must attend the academy outside of that lord Eric has tutors to teach you everything about the basics, the politics currently in the empire finally elven etiquette and history"
After we finish breakfast I get washed ignoring Carol's offer to help me bathe then change into a outfit with the family crest embodied then go see lord Eric who is currently lounging in the garden watching some rare and exotic animal that live there before I'm announced by his new head butler who looks very nervous in my presence even with Meghan and Carol by my side.
Lord Eric:"Ah my dear boy its good you could peel yourself away from your girls in order to make time for me" his voice full of humor
Me:"As tempting as it would be to lay in bed with them all day but even I have to eat and I figured since I was up I might as well see you"
Lord Eric:"All jokes aside we must begin your lineage training today as it will help keep you alive should the worst come to pass follow me" we walk into the garden leaving behind our servants
Lord Eric then proceeds to lead us deeper into the garden until we reach an odd out of place statues of hydras facing inwards in a circle as we approach we approach lord Eric pulls out an amulet that looks similar to a serpent's eye channeling his mana into it without any clear pattern or amounts from the mouths of the statues silver blobs pour out to the center forming a giant ball that looks like it is made from mercury.
Lord Eric:"This is a portal to the semi plane that is illegally controlled by our family for generations and the source of our power that kept us from being completely controlled by those above us if it were a regular portal would be blue our ancestors stumbled upon this while trying to create a portal to the capital of the kingdom according to law any semi plane discovered must be reported and are the exclusive property of the emperor governed by the kings and imperial nobility beneath him."
As finishes his explanation with complete disregard of the law he just explained he begins to walk to portal I follow curious to find out more.
