Chapter 1: Chapter 00
After a cold shower John sat at his desk and turned on his system.
"No more updates!" he uttered to himself with a deep sigh.
He grabbed the neural linker band and placed it on his forehead.
"Commencing deep dive!" alerted the system with a mechanical voice.
After a flash of blue light, he was sitting in an oversized, bejeweled throne. After looking around a bit, he began walking towards a large and extravagant metal door.
"Open", he said in a commanding voice.
After walking through the door, he saw the evening sky from a large ship sailing through the clouds. A view which would make you feel like a god looking down on his creations.
This World, where John spent more time than the real world, is called 'AfterWorld': an FI-MMORPG (Fully Immersive MMORPG). A Game World similar to the actual Earth. A game created for Defects.
In the wake of COVID19 during 2020, half the population fell to the virus.Those who survived, experienced the greatest change that ever occurred to Humanity. They were able to control and adapt to a new type of energy called Mana. This was the greatest event in human history.
After years and years of development, mankind had completely adapted to this new push. Earth had become a fantasy world depicted in novels.
Many Industries and technologies collapsed and paved the way for new industries and developments.
The Earth after this incident began to be called AfterEarth.
More than a century has passed. Magic has become common amongst humanity, used from daily chores to technological developments in warfare.
About 95% of humans can use magic, but the other 5% couldn't wield this power as their body lacked the vital organ for this, the Mana Core.
John is such a person who cannot wield this fantastical power. He is an irregular in this fresh new wave of humanity.
It was at this time that an MMORPG was reintroduced into society. Nowadays no one would be interested in such a game. But for the irregulars it was a different story.
The game was set in a world similar to earth. Same classes of magic, same terrains and same names. It was like a parallel universe where everyone can use mana, a counterpart of Earth.
Initially the game was well received by the irregulars like John, who could only dream about using mana, but reality is very hard to escape.
Many players who played for a long time started to quit. The game was well developed, but a new change was ensuing around the world, most of the irregulars started to develop mana core. Even though their power was menial compared to others but for them it was a blessing.
After three years every player had left the game except the loner John, who considers himself the only one in this world without a mana core.
"Today is the last day of this world," he croaked.
His heart was filled with the memories he made in this world. He is the highest level player, who cleared all the dungeons and labyrinths of this virtual world.
The Lord of Darkness, The Wielder of Dark Mana, the creator of the floating ship Gibrees, the master of the five high level NPC, 'Abbadon Calm'.
"What's the point of being the strongest if you are the only one left in this world," he muttered with a bitter grin.
The game was not entirety shut down, he can play this after today also, but the developer had announced that there will be no updates from today on.
The world where no change occurs and no one resides, what's the point of existing in this world'. These thoughts filled John's mind. He was having a hard time acknowledging that he has to return to a life where he is the last irregular.
Suddenly, as he was contemplating what to do, a panel appeared before his eyes flashing yellow colored texts.
"A NEW UPDATE IS AVAILABLE!"
