Chapter 5: First Awakening...
Maximus along with the other children had formed two lines to go back home, marking the end of their field trip. It took some time for all the kids to assemble and give a head count. There was some confusion as there were only sixteen children, not seventeen. The matrons with the help of a few zoo staff started searching for the kid. There was a scream and the people searching all went towards the noice fearing the worst. It seemed like the kid fell inside the gorilla enclosure. How he fell in, he had no clue.
'This is my chance!' Max thought and asked the matron cureently incharge of us to go to the bathroom and that it was urgent, he also promised not to dally around. She looked a bit nervous but nevertheless gave her consent telling him to come back fast. He quickly made his way to the restroom, instead of going in he ducked behind a man walking past and made his way to the enclosure.
When he got there he could see the zoo keepers had started restraining the boisterous gorillas as the weee going ape shit(I'm sorry.... I really am. I need help, cant stop with the puns) and putting them inside holding cells to keep them away from the boy who fell in. Little did he know that, 'the boy who fell' became the kid's nickname for the rest of his days in the orphanage.
While the staff were searching for him, Max crept near a cage, just to feel a smack in his head, he did not give a sound but turned to see if he was caught. To his irritation it was the gorilla inside the cage that took a swipe at him and even started laughing and howling. Max was still and waited for someone to check the sound but know one came.
'They must have thought the apes couldn't do any monkey business(😬get it?) from inside their cages. Confirming that no ine was around he pulled out the shepherd's crook and just out of spite, he looked into the gorilla's eyes and banged the staff onto its head.
Max felt like his whole body jerked forward and get sucked into the gorilla's eyes. He saw all its memories, from its birth till that very second and the next second he came back to his original position. It seemed like he successfully made a connection with the ape on his first try, although he had Pan's memories and instructions on how to dk it, he never expected it to turn out this way.
With the completion of his objective he crept out and made his way to his group without any hinderance. While he was gone the zoo staff had found and escorted 'the boy who fell' out of the enclosure. They got a headcount again and set off to the orphanage which was just down two blocks.
Max had finished his dinner, secretly burned a piece of bread as offerings to Pan in the fireplace before sitting down to eat. He really did like the idea of offerings and thought that he may as well do it cause he also found it kinda cool.
Max was on his bed, which was a bunk-bed which he had to share it with another boy, reading about the different animals and birds. He already knew he made a good choice by getting the power of a gorilla because its the strongest animal considering the weight ratio it can lift, pull and push to its body weight,mass and its size. But the only thing is that he couldn't use it as he didn't know how. He kept trying to bring out the gorilla's or atleast his inbuilt goat power; that's what he called them now; but nothing happened.
It had been weeks since the zoo incident and he still hasn't gotten hold of his powers yet. In the mean time, he would regularly sneak out snd climb a terrace to a martial arts school teaching from kids to blackbelt expert. He felt like the guy in Thirty six chambers of Shaolin, sneaking in and out to learn something in the marital arts field. But he couldn't learn anything cause he could not focus and always felt restless, althoughthe daily climbing, sneaking and running back and forth did help out a lot with his physique. Especially climbing the 15 feet wall did wonder to his sense of balance, space and also gave bit of muscle. Looking at him, you would never think he was from an orphanage. At night he went through few more books and found out the name for gorilla in greek 'korila'. That night he got a idea.
Maximus sneaked in to the restroom in the middle of the night and held the staff and chanted softly, "Korila". BZZZT. The lights in the vicinity sparked out and he felt an intense itch on his shoulders. Looking at his shoulders, he found glowing black, thick, swirly tattoos on both of his shoulders.(imagine Kaido's[One Piece] shoulder tats)
Maximus felt really stupid, it never occur to him that it had to be said in greek. He always thought that Pan just chanted it in greek cause he always talks in greek, turns out using greek was a chant in itself.
He was excited to try out his super strength as he knew the strongest of the gorilla's were known to lift 12-15 times its body weight, even the normal gorillas could lift 10 times their body weight. In his excitement he crushed the brass door hand. Wincing, he tentatively opened the door and quietly went back to bed.
