Chapter 7: BONDING
"Should we get something to eat? I'm kinda hungry" I suggested. We've been sitting here for a while now in this park and because of that I've been feeling a lot better than before. It's been so long since the last time I had a space for myself to breathe and relax. While we we're preparing for the funding campaign I rarely got the chance to go home and lived off only in the office. I slept there, ate there, and focused on work a lot like day and night. I was always with Lee that time, probably the main reason why I always got sick so easily, cause I was sick of him being there 24/7.
Having another friend aside from Lee was really helpful I just didn't got the chance to realize it a bit sooner and have stuck with him for so long. I surely treat Martin as my friend now even though I have only met him for a few days, I don't usually consider other people that easily unless I have known them for atleast a year. He has been helping me a lot and I'm really grateful to have him back me up. We've been getting along very well and I don't feel awkward around him. It's like we've known each other for a long time now, he kinda feels different to me, far from being with Lee whom I felt as if I have to limit myself because of his stupid feelings and assumptions.
"Let's go, I know a good cafe around here" I forced him to stand up from sitting at the bench and walked outside the park. "You drive" he threw his keys at me when we've reached the car. That cafe is actually my favorite and if I'm not mistaken it's should be just around the block so I decided to go there and share with him a new place and experience just how he showed me around the park. "You're really familiar with Bangkok" he said. "Well I have been here a lot so I got to explore it a bit" I turned at the Phong Phang street and finally saw the same old logo of the place.
I parked the car then headed inside the cafe, It looks the same but more sophisticated as I wandered around. The signature cakes they have here are so bomb that it makes me reminisce about the times where I would just hang out here for so long that I would also order my dinner here, it's insane.
"I thought you were hungry but it seems more to me that you just wanted to grab a coffee" I chuckled at his remark, I was but this is the best way to go. I could share the coffee and also the memories. "Could you sit there near the window, I'll order for you" I pointed at the table across us where I would usually sit, I even secretly vandalized my initials there.
I went up to the cake station and ordered two chocolate cakes that I love, then two caramel frappes. "Khob khun khap" I said as I went to get our orders at the receiving area. "You know how to speak thai?" Martin said as I gently placed down the cakes in front of us. "I don't, I learned the basics tho" I admitted, I took photos of the cake since it's been so long I wanted to add it to my instagram. "I have a lot of memories here, it's good to be back" I went to get a bit of a cake then fed him naturally, I don't know why I did that but it came off instinctively, thank god he didn't refuse. "Why? do you usually go here for dates? HAHAHA" I can't help but laugh at his joke too, it was subtle and made me look like a player who initially went on blind dates with different guys every week.
"I used to hang out in this spot for hours back then when we had to stay in Thailand for a long time" one time we stayed here for a good 7 months due to my Dad's hectic schedule and I was forced to attend online classes as instructed by the University so that I wouldn't be left out. "I often stayed at home with no one since they were both busy with work so whenever I felt bored and lonely I would drove here with my laptop and study" I always ordered myself a frappe and it will instantly boost my mood, although I'll probably get diabetes later on, atleast I was happy.
"You probably have a crush on the owner, I mean there are a lot of places to choose from and instead you chose to stay here everyday" he teasingly said. I looked over to his plate to see that there's only a bit of cake left, it's kinda cute that he also enjoys the things that I do. "It was an unrequited love to be honest since he doesn't visit the shop. I only saw our mom twice HAHAHA"
If you're going to visit the cafe the first thing that you will notice upon entering is a standee of a man whom I learned later on was the owner. He's young and successful probably the same age as ours. He famous for being in a group at another country so he rarely has time to go home to his hometown, he's fairly tall, handsome and is good at dancing. "I was right, you do come here for your own interests"
"How about you? what kind of job do ypu have in New York?" I was kinda curious, is he unemployed or something? cause I don't really see him taking care of anything besides playing games on his phone, he's mostly chill and doesn't really care about anything. "Techno Productions, I'm a software developer" I was so startled my mouth was probably hanging open. I can't believe I called him unemployed when he has this big company to boast of.
Techno Productions is an app developer, they recently launched Condor League which boomed last year and had a huge platform across the world, even I play that game.
"Why didn't you informed me a lot sooner, I could have asked you for starter packs" I'm really having a hard time upgrading my character because I don't have that much time to play even though I wanted to so I could really use his kindness.
"Are you a cancer gamer? you're literally asking me for starter packs even though that's cheating" wow he's selfish, he probably wanted all the power gains to himslef so that only his character will grow, but again he doesn't need that, he owns the whole damn game. "I don't play that much, but if I have a chance I'll ask you for a duel" I'll most likely lose but it might do me justice for once.
We continued talking for a while before deciding to head back the hotel since it's getting a little late. I learned a lot from him, about himself, about his company, his family. His mother passed away when he was still little that's why the President decided to let them live in the US together with his sister so that they could focus more in their studies without the pain left by their mother. His sister which was a marketing graduate helped him establish Techno. He worked the job from inside as he is a software and programming languages graduate while his sister promoted internationally. Just like how Lee and I teamed up.
"You should not use all your equipments at once, be resourceful as much as possible and labor first before attacking" we we're still hooked up talking about the game when we reached the hotel lobby, I instantly saw Lee and Mom waiting for us. "You're really fucked up" Lee went to Martin and punched him, he aggressively fought back and things started to get out of control. I went to stop Martin before he kills Lee and Mom alerted the guards to get a hold of him.
"Leroy what the fuck is wrong with you?!" I shouted at him as he tried to come at Martin again. "I told you to stop seeing him, how long will you keep this up Kiella?!" he shouted angrily, Mom stepped up beside him and held his arms to calm him down. "Kiella what is the meaning of this, why are you with Martin?" she asked. I am honestly confused as to why they make it seem like I can't be seen with him, that I can't go out with him. This isn't a fucking crime.
"I tried to tell the truth but Lee stopped me. Mom I'm tired of hiding it. Please you have to listen" I looked over at him furiously before sepaking out, I can't let him overcome me, he ain't shit, he probably won't punch me right?
"Martin and I are dating. We met at New York last November when you forced me to fly there because you and dad are having fits again, I'm not stupid Mom I know what you two are going through. I left just like you wanted me and Martin was there for me, not you nor dad, not lee but him. That's also why I just couldn't accept Lee's proposal, I don't love him not more than my best friend."
I'd probably need to punch someone from feeling too agitated with them or my bubble will literally burst.
I assisted Martin out the lobby and into his room. I can't believe he got punched again, he's way too nice for putting up with this. Just how many times will he be hurt throughout this whole plan, he might die one day from bearing too much. It's good though that he got to punch Lee a little bit better than last time when he was drunk, that's an achievement.
We arrived at his room shortly and I led him to his bed so he could sit while I went inside the bathroom to get the first aid kit. "I'm really sorry that Lee punched you again" I sat beside him then started treating his face that had little cuts, 2 days passed and we're literally in the same goddamn situation again. I won't be surprised if one day he'll be wanting to ditch me for such valid reasons. "Kiella about what you said a while ago, why did they forced you to go?" well it wasn't that of a big deal but I was needed to pack last minute because they were having issues again. I oftenly hear them arguing at night and observe how distant they are the next morning.
"My parents were having issues that time, although they tried to hide it from me it was nearly impossible not to notice the changes between them. They told me to go on a vacation so I did even though I wasn't pleased deep down. I spent the holidays alone and I kinda felt depressed that our family was falling apart." I wished that they would resolve their issues truly so that it won't happen again. They could've just told me the real situation and patch things up like the family that we are. I'm not a child anymore.
"I hope that our plan wasn't just an act as what you've said before, I could've been there to be with you instead of facing those alone."
