Chapter 49: Chapter 48: Training to Be Worthy

Spirit animals are condensed via talisman by mages and were created primarily to aid their casters or their masters in battle. With their vague consciousness, they obey their masters wholeheartedly and can enhance the accuracy, damage or synchronising abilities of their masters' spells. Of course, Tudor was far from being a spirit animal.

As magic was exclusive to the nobility and the rich, the ownership of spirit animals was an envious thing, and something to show off about. Naturally, many had their doubts about Libitina owning a spirit animal, because it suggested that she was once rich or a noble. This brought many dangers until Gregory sealed off all information about her.

To Libitina's surprise, other than being a well-known and powerful politician in Clomodor, Gregory was also an Earth Mage. Libitina thought back to how she had been transported to the Merveille's home in wonder. That was when she asked Gregory to train her in magic, to which he agreed.

'Tudor?'

'Master.'

The two of them synchronised their breaths.

Libitina gently moved her middle finger in an upwards arc.

The feather and the spoon trembled, but nothing else happened as Libitina and Tudor held their breath.

'Again. Tudor?'

'Master.'

They calmed their minds and Libitina waved her finger, slightly more determined than before. However, this time, her fingers did not move completely upwards, but had a slight push action towards the bottle.

The feather gently picked itself up, and floated away from the spoon.

"Yes!" Libitina and Tudor cried, a second before the spoon bounced off the bottle, flew across the room and embed itself into a garden pillar, like a knife in butter. The bottle followed up by exploding into smithereens, ensuing in a dumbfounded silence as Libitina and Tudor looked on in shock.

Gregory raised his eyebrows in amusement. "Not yet. Again!"

"Yes, Father!"

When the practice session finally ended, Libitina and Gregory laid down on the open grass field and looked up at the blue sky and floating clouds.

"You improved. Good job," Gregory complimented as he tickled Tudor under its chin. The owl cooed adorably.

"Thank you, Father. When do you think I will be able to get the feather off the spoon?"

"Lina, don't get frustrated. When you are able to do it, you will do it. Of course, we did set a deadline, but there is no need to rush either."

"But, am I doing it too slowly…With my powers, aren't I supposed to achieve these things faster?"

"Lina, do you remember the first time you tried to use your powers?"

Libitina shivered and frowned. "How could I not, Father? That's why I want to control it faster, better. But I am failing."

That day, when she synchronised her power with Tudor for the first time, she accidentally blew up the garden's water fountain. The concrete debris flew everywhere and almost hurt a few of the servants. Since then, no servants were allowed near their training area, to prevent both injuries and rumours. After all, her raw power was simply too unusual. Even Gregory was shocked.

"You have a lot of raw power, that is the truth," Gregory looked wistfully at the sky. "But that is also a fatal weakness."

Libitina waited for her father to explain.

"When you have unlimited power, everything becomes possible. But this also means that nothing is impossible. Time, wealth, money, effort and all those things that makes life hard, pleasurable, memorable and desperate may possibly become worthless in your eyes. You may expect that your goals are to be achieved seamlessly with the talent you are bestowed, but you must understand that you are also with limitations. Despite your powers, it is okay to take things slowly. It is okay to put in effort and wait for it to ferment, as long as you try your best.

"Those with little power find it hard in life, so they struggle. You, on the other hand, have too much, but all the more you must struggle. Control, practice, strive to make full use of what you have been dealt, to make the most of yourself, and therefore be the best for the people. Do you understand, Lina?"

Libitina gritted her teeth. "That is too much responsibility."

"With power comes responsibility. Haven't you heard of that phrase?"

Libitina sighed and shook her head. "Can't I just live off you guys for eternity?"

Gregory laughed. "We will be living off you in the future, don't dream too much!

"Alright, that's enough rest, Alisa is waiting for you. Get uppidity!"
