Chapter 39: Call Off the Engagement
"I don't know," Lu Shen stared at her with a calm expression.
"You don't know?" Tang Lin looked at him very seriously.
"I don't know."
"Shen. If you don't tell me the truth, then I don't know if I could trust you anymore."
"What do you think happened?" Lu Shen questioned her.
"I think..."
"Are you assuming that I ordered my men to ruin your shop, so you could lose profit and gain disapproval from my family? Do you think I would use such methods to find an unreasonable excuse to break up with you, so I could marry that woman, Ke Zhenyi?!" He exploded and looked angrily at her.
He continued to say, "Now I know how much trust you put in me. It's less than what you put in Zhenshao, huh?"
"Yes! At least, he gives me a sense of comfort! Unlike you!" Her eyes were bursting in fury. She continued in a colder voice, "Let's call off the engagement."
Lu Shen scoffed and said after a moment of hesitation, "I came here to tell you that Ke Zhenshao is playing tricks on you. But now that this happened, my words don't matter to you anymore, right?"
"You're correct."
"Well then, let's not just call the engagement off, let's break up."
Lu Shen sighed heavily and pulled her phone out of his pocket. After placing it into her hands, he left without even turning back.
"Call the police. Tell them to investigate this matter, and whoever did it must be punished no matter who it is," she told Qin Zhao.
Tang Lin was left alone after Qin Zhao excused himself and left.
Right when she looked like she was in her most vulnerable state, Ke Zhenshao walked towards her and held her hand.
"It's okay. I'm here."
Tang Lin released her hand from his and wiped her tears.
"I'm alright. I'm sorry. I just need to be alone right now."
She went onto the elevator and entered the VIP parking lot.
Tang Lin could feel a presence following her to her car. She reached inside of her purse and held the pepper spray in her hand.
Suddenly, she heard rustles and crackling sounds. After hearing a swish sound, she looked behind her and saw a man lying on the cold floor behind her with his bones twisted. It looked like he was dead.
Who was fast enough to do this much damage to a person in a span of five seconds? The man didn't even have time to scream before he died.
She ran to one of the security guards, so they could deal with the situation, but when they came to the spot, the dead man was gone. After failing to convince the security guards to believe her, she got into her car.
Tang Lin was so shocked about what had just happened that she didn't notice the man sitting in her backseat.
She looked in the mirror and saw Lu Shen sitting in the backseat behind her.
She gasped in shock and tried to calm herself down.
"What the heck! You scared me! Almost gave me a heart attack! Why are you sitting back there?"
"What if Zhenshao sees me? Our plan will be ruined," he held her hand and kissed it.
"Do you know I cried because your acting was so good? I thought you really wanted to break up with me! And then, that guy came and ruined my mood even more."
"Oh. I thought you feel a sense of comfort around him."
"I only feel disgust around him."
She sighed and started the car. After putting the car in auto pilot, Lu Shen brushed her black hair with his fingers as she fell asleep.
When they reached the house her fiancée carried her into the house.

Tang Lin woke up on the couch smelling the aroma of different foods. She walked over to the dining room and saw half of the table filled with amazing dishes.
After going into the kitchen, she wondered how a person could make this much mess. There were cooked noodles stuck on the cabinets, water puddles on the floor, vegetables that weren't chopped on all of the counters, and many more disasters.
Lu Shen stared at the iPad as he sprinkled the salt. The chef in the video looked so professional, and it was the exact opposite with Lu Shen. His face was so serious, but his cold demeanor broke away after he wiped his face with his hand and a red sauce streak was seen straight across his forehead.
Tang Lin walked towards him and stepped over the puddles on the floor. He felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist and his big smile was seen on his face. She kissed him on the lips and laughed as she wiped his forehead with a wet paper towel.
"What are you making?"
"Spaghetti."
"Spaghetti?"
"Yep."
"Well then, is that why there are noodles on the cabinets?"
They looked over to the noodles hanging off the ends of each cabinet.
"Yeah. I was checking if it was cooked. The chef did it, too," Lu Shen said as if nothing in the kitchen was wrong.
Tang Lin sighed and told him, "You could've just took a strand and ate it to see if it was soft enough."
"Oh.. I didn't think of that in the moment," he said as he chuckled.
She left him to cook by himself, so he could concentrate more.
An hour later, he filled the other half of the table with more dishes.
They sat down and started eating. Turns out even though he has a messy way of cooking, his food tastes like they're from a five-star restaurant.
The dishes on the table were all empty and they were full. They thought that they could finally rest, but then, they remembered the horrible mess in the kitchen.
The two got up and spent quite a long time cleaning the disaster.
A notification popped up on Tang Lin's phone right when they sat on the couch. It was because she was tagged in a photo of Lu Shen and Ke Zhenyi in a car together. It was the same photo that was sent to her phone by Ke Zhenshao.
She saw all sorts of flaws in the photoshopped image.
The news was number one trending and people in the business world were talking about it all over.

In France, there was a brown-haired woman staring at her phone as she ran on the treadmill. She scrolled through the news of Tang Lin and Lu Shen's scandals.
"Hey, KF. Did you get any inside information on the Han family?" The buff man asked the woman on the treadmill.
She turned the treadmill off and wiped her sweat.
"I have a piece of info, but it's not much."
The man gestured for her to say it.
"It turns out that the Han family has a third hidden daughter. The first daughter is Han Yao, who committed suicide. The second daughter is Han Ming, who is the wife of the chairman of Lu Group. The hidden third daughter is Han Lan. She is the mother of Ke Zhenshao and Ke Zhenyi. Most people do not know the relation between the Ke family and the Han family because of their last name. Since the siblings have the last name of Ke, not much people know about this info. Recently, the Ke siblings have been getting into scandals with the current CEO of Lu Group and his fiancée. Also, the CEO's sister, Lu Ying, has gotten into an accident a few days ago and she has a baby in her womb. I think the Ke and Han families are up to something together."
The man looked at her in shock.
"How the hell did you get this information? It takes me weeks or months to get this amount of info, yet it only took you a few days! If yours is a piece of info, then mine is a speck of dust!"
The woman looked at him and said, "Do you know how to hack? Birth certificates, locations, and more info can be found by hacking. No wonder why you suck at your job."
The man hated when people looked down on him, but he knew that he would definitely lose in a fight with her, so he just pitied himself. It's better to have this killing machine as a friend than an enemy.
