Chapter 5: CH.5: PROMISES
"Promises."--
Its' one of the most valuable thing in making a strong connection.
It's one of the most sweetest lies.
It's meant to be broken.
"You must never break a promise."
That's what my mother said before she passed away.
And that's my only reason to fulfill those promises I made until now.
The sun slowly shining in my eyes.
"It's morning, already?"
As I wake myself up, my hand suddenly grabbed something soft and the sensation is familiar.
As I take off the bed sheet, there I saw Elvie sleeping in my bed.
I took a long breathe and analyzed the situation first.-- In this kind of situation, I shouldn't let myself in panic.
"First, What is she doing in here?"
"Second, Why is she sleeping in my bed?"
"Third, Elvie's body is so amazing~"
"And the most important question is, What if Risa finds out about this?! What will happen to me?!"
Risa suddenly came in.
It's too late to think for a better excuse anymore.
"Why is Elvie sleeping next to you?!" Risa said it softly.
Did she said 'Elvie'?
Did they meet before?
Maybe I can get an explanation later.
"I think she's cold?" I answered.
Risa suddenly smiled at me.
Eventually, beaten me to death.
Elvie suddenly woke up.
"Good Morning, Rubi!"
"Oh, What are you doing here Risa?"
Elvie said it like she's not in trouble.
"Wh-What do you mean, what am I doing here?!" Risa said it irritated.
"This is my house! You stupid elf!~" Risa yelled.
As for me, I don't know what is happening.
I'm confused.
So I talked to the both of them.
"Do you know each other?" I asked.
"NO, WE DON'T!" Risa and Elvie said.-- Why answered at the same time?
A few moment later, both of them calmed down.
I asked Elvie what is she doing in here.
Elvie said, now that her mother recovered from her sickness, she wanted to visit here. She said that her mother and Risa's mother has something that they need to talk about.
Elvie is quite surprised when she heard that I am staying here for the night.-- Maybe Rosaline told her.
The housemaids told her where my room is, so she sneaked in my room.-- Those housemaids again.
Risa told me that she is actually looking for Elvie, and the first place that she searched is my room.-- What's with those senses?!
Eventually, we cleared up the misunderstandings.
The three of us meet the queens-- Their mothers.
They greeted themselves and I greeted back.
I asked Elviana, why are they her.
She told me that she wanted to visit Rosaline-- Risa's mother.
They are actually close.
"So, Risa and Elvie knew each other?" I asked
Rosaline told me that Risa and Elvie are actually childhood friends.
They always play together, when they are visiting.
"Childhood friends? But it seems that it's natural for them to fight.-- Just like earlier." I said.
Rosaline said that it only shows how close they really are.
Both Risa and Elvie are looking fiercely at each other.-- I think they actually hated each other.
Our topics changed.
Elvie said earlier that Elviana has something important to talk about.
So I asked her that.
Elviana told me that there's a village who's in the hand of a demon-- or a monster.
And this demon is making the villagers live in fear.
The important topic why they came is, to discuss about how to save this village. So in order to do that, they need to build a strong force.
Both of them looks at me.-- Well, I know that it will come to this eventually. That goes without saying.
"I'll go. You can count on me."
Our discussions ended, our forces will go tomorrow morning. So I told them that I need to go back home for preparations.
As I walk back home, I almost forgot to give the material to Gru.-- The monster called 'Nue', the one that I killed in the cave.
I walk passed the guild and someone called me, it's Hera. She just wanted to thank me for treating her on last time. So I told Hera that I have some materials for Gru. I told her that I needed again some equipment to use for tomorrow. Hera told me that she's on her break and wanted to accompany me.-- You know how pervert that dwarf to you, right?
So we arrived at the shop. As expected, Gru jumped towards Hera but as expected again, Hera kicked him.
After Gru regained his conscious, Gru is quite impressed to the materials that I showed but unfortunately, it's not the ones that he is looking for. I told him that I needed a weapon, a much stronger one.
"A stronger one, you say?!" Gru said it in motivation. Gru insisted me to come back tomorrow morning.
After that, I took Hera back to the guild and go back home. As I arrive nearly at the beer house, I saw Ria and Maya running towards me.
"Welcome back~ Rubi~" Ria and Maya shouted.-- Like a wife in worried, running to her husband and a daughter, who's been looking for her lost father.
"I'm home~ My Ria~ My Maya~" I shouted.
I stood up and spread my arms, waiting for their warm hug.
But big punches came to me.-- Well, that's expected.
"What do you mean, 'I'm home'?!"
"Guards came looking at you. You didn't even came home last night."
"Do you know how much we worried about you?!"
Ria keeps on yelling at me, so I apologized to the both of them. As we get back home, I explained to them everything and told them that I'll be leaving tomorrow to rescue a village.
Maya suddenly hugs me.
"You'll come back here, right?" Maya said it with teary eyes.
I told her that I'll be back.-- How could I say 'No' to this cute little girl?
The day ended, I slept for a whole day.-- I didn't get much sleep in the palace, that's why.
The "Tomorrow Morning" came.
"*Beep, *Beep, *Beep, *Beep."-- My phone alarm woke me. I need to prepare myself quickly because I need to go at Gru's shop first thing in the morning.
As I go down the stairs, unexpectedly, I slipped. Luckily I fell into something soft.-- Yes, by soft, I fell to Ria's chest. But she gave me some beating in return.
Before I go, Maya hugged me and told me to come back.
"Of course, I'll be back. I promise." I said to Maya.
As I head out, both of them waved at me and wished me luck.
I arrived at Gru's shop. But I don't see Gru.-- Or so I thought. Gru surprised me and told me that he's in front of me in the whole time.-- I just didn't saw him in my field of vision.
But Gru surprised me again. She showed me this beautiful sword. He told me that this sword is as sharp as the claw of the monster-- The 'Nue' that I killed. As for it's handle, he used the one that I killed in Elvie's place.-- The 'Vine Monster'.
I bought Gru the sword.-- With discount of course.
After that, Gru wishes me luck.
I head straight to the palace. But when I arrived, Elvie yelled at me for being late. So I apologized to her and explained my excuses. As I see the forces, I saw the guards of Elvisha, the ones that I met. Elvie told me that they are the ones that her mother-- Elviana insisted to come.
"You are coming too, Elvie?" I asked her.
"Of course, I'm an adventurer too!" Elvie shouted at me. She told me that she got permissions from her mother.
"By the way, I don't see Risa anywhere." I said. She told me that her mother-- Rosaline didn't let her come. I used my phone and searched Risa's name in the map.-- she's actually closeby. I look around, and saw a hooded person.-- This is Risa for sure. I think she noticed that I saw her.
Risa walk towards me and drag me somewhere unseen. I told her why is she in disguise, she told me that she wanted to come but her mother refused. "Well, because it's dangerous." I said to her but still, she is moping and crying like a baby.-- She really wanted to come.
"Just don't get yourself in trouble." I said.
"Everything is fine." She said.
"What do you mean, it's fine? What if you're in danger?" I asked.
"We-Well, Because I have you." Risa said it sweetly.-- I'm getting a bad feeling about this.
After making the preparations-- Horses, carts, weapon and equipment, we took off. As we go, I asked Elvie if there's any information gave by the queens. She told me that the village is under by an 'Ogre' with his minions.-- An ogre?
Few minutes later, we finally arrived at the village. My phone suddenly vibrates, it tells me that enemies are all over the place. I told everybody to get ready. Eventually, monsters came at us.
Thanks to Elvie and the rest of the elves, it's turning into a one-sided fight.-- Their magics are so amazing. While the guards of Elsia, I told them to rescue the villagers. The fight keeps on going but there's still no sign of the ogre yet.-- I'm getting a bad feeling.
A few minutes later, my phone suddenly vibrates and tells me that the ogre is coming. As I look where it is, a scream came out of nowhere, it's Risa's voice. I rushed to where she is and saw her running away from the woods.
"Ru-Rubi~ Help me~" Risa shouted.
While Risa is running towards me, a huge monster came out of nowhere.-- An ogre carrying a big sword chasing her.
"Come here, little girl~" The ogre said.
Risa tripped and fell.
I used "Poison Spit" at the ogre's eyes to slows it down. I ran towards Risa and carry her. Unfortunately, the ogre regenerated so quickly and now chasing the both of us. Luckily, Elvie came and I asked her to take care of Risa. As for me, I'll fight the monster alone.
"You intend to fight me alone?! You pesky human?!" The ogre said.
I used "Thunder" but it doesn't quite effective.
"Is that all you've got?!" The ogre laughed at me.
I used "Acid spit" and "Fireball" but still, doesn't affect him much, he's healing ability is strong.
"I'm getting bored at you, I'm gonna play with that girl from earlier.", The ogre said.
My phone suddenly vibrates, it tells me an incoming attack from the ogre. "Flame Sword"-- As the name suggested, the ogre's sword turned to flame. The ogre sliced me into two, making me die. The ogre laughed, but his laughter ended when he saw that I came back alive. "Wh-What?! You're supposed to be dead!" The ogre said it in shock.
"Flame Sword Acquired!"
Magic attacks aren't effective, so how about I use this skill to him instead? I used "Poison Spit" on it's eyes again. While the ogre is in panic, I slashed him. With the sword that Gru made and with this new skill that I acquired-- The "Flame Sword", I killed the monster-- Ogre.
After I killed the demon-- Ogre, the fight ended. We successfully saved the village. All of the villagers are safe thanks to the guards of Elsia. While the elves are taking care of the remaining monsters.
Well, as for Risa, I told her to thank Elsia for taking care of her and apologize to her mother when we get back home.
On our way back home, I took Risa back to the palace.
"Yo-You aren't mad at me?" Risa said.
"Of course not!" I said to her.-- Well, because half of the fault are from me. I'm the one who agreed to her offer earlier.
Risa suddenly pulled me and kissed me to the cheek.
"Th-Thank you! For saving me~" Risa said, blushing.
"I made you a promise, right? And not only to you but for your mother and father too. That I will protect you no matter what." I said it with a big smile on my face.
Risa's face are turning red. When I asked her what is the problem, she suddenly ran inside.-- A really fast run to be exact.
The queen-- Rosaline thanked me and rewarded with gold coins for successfully rescuing the village.
As I head back home, I received the most loveliest reward that I got.-- Yes, a hug from Maya. I tried to hug Ria too but she gave me a big punch in the face.
The day ended, so many happened today but I managed to keep everyone's promises.-- The promise from Risa's parents as well for Risa that I will protect her and the promises I made to Ria and Maya, that I will come back home.
So many events are happening to me right now.-- What's more to come? Well, I'm so tired to think about it. I will just go to sleep and have very good dream. I hope that everything will be alright.-- I just hope that it will be...
