Chapter 135: EPISODE 135: The Folklore of Water Fire and Thunder!
Black old fashioned Japanese wooden houses with tinned ceilings in the array, each bearing a tree or a plant whatever they presume. Trees and pebbled roads filled with thick fluffy snow, while people living here, roam around with joy together with their Pokemons. Enju town, a town filled with joy and happiness, a town famous for their festive spirit.
At the center of the town, lies three red shrines, Mizu no jinja, Hi no jinja, and Raijinja. This town is just like Fantasma city, a Japanese cultured town, uninfluenced by Englishmen. In English, the shrine pertains to: Water, Fire, and Thunder. At the center of the fire shrine, is an old tall tree, with deep implanted roots. The tree's leaves are filled with cherry blossoms and lanterns, people are truly serious with festivals like this.
Three days left to go, before the festival begins. I and my friends have finally arrived, and now? It's time to find an inn. It's hard to navigate around the city, for only a few know the English Language. Every signage seen in the town are written in Japanese terms. An old lady knew how to speak English and told us directions to a nearby inn. The inn had no aircon, neither do their houses have, everything is untouched by modern technology, even the Pokemon Center uses old fashioned Japanese remedies, although the Pokemon Center has their calling booths of course, as well as the bathrooms in each inn and house.
All you have is the cold breeze, a small bed, and some antique furniture. There are no televisions nor microwaves. The floors were made out of bamboo scraps, while the room was filled with two bunk beds. The girls love to stay and sleep on the upper bed, while we boys will sleep on the lower bed.
After arranging our things and aspects, we decided to pass by at the Pokemon Center. I want to walk around with Glaceon for awhile. Banette will be switched out for now, while Glaceon will stay with me.
[Glaceon! The Fresh Snow Pokemon, An Ice-type! It can control its body temperature at will. This enables it to freeze the moisture in the atmosphere, creating flurries of diamond dust. Glaceon currently knows four moves:
-Ice Fang
-Icicle spear
-Double Edge
-Attract]
"Thank you for the information Irys, I appreciate it a lot!" I beamed with joy while rubbing Glaceon's fur. Glaceon loves to lick and play with my hand, she also started to interact with other Pokemons. Suddenly, Professor Bellice called me using her Xtransciever.
"Hey, Kalem... I forgot to give you something, me and my colleagues were able to recreate the Poketrans gem, I've added six of them to your inbox, just tap the withdraw button and it will automatically appear."
"Really!? Thanks Professor!"
"Sure, no problem!"
Professor Bellice, recreated my mother's Poketrans gem with the use of the green electron gem. It has the power to send electrons to Pokemons which would soon bounce out of the gem, once it does... the electrons will be translated. Glaceon and Mawile loved their Poketrans gem, especially Glaceon since she loves elegant things.
I called professor Bellice and thanked her for the extra Poketrans gems, I won't have any troubles in understanding my Pokemons. I also gave one Poketrans gem to professor Bellice so she could place it on Banette's neck.
"I can speak..." Glaceon uttered with shock, she heard her cute little voice and enjoyed it very much. Mawile tried to speak as well, she loved the gem and hopped around me with happiness.
"Great... Now we can communicate even better than before! That is also a symbol of ownership, meaning I own you and you own me!" I beamed with joy.
"Since we're done with your business, why don't we look around the town?" Camellia suggested.
"That will be great! We can learn more about the upcoming festival." Zhery agreed.
"Sure, I'll keep Mawile and Glaceon out of their Pokeballs for now. Riolu, cling tightly to my shoulder ok?"
<Rio! Rio!>Riolu smiled and nodded his head.
Enju town is one of the largest towns of the Laurenburg region, a sight to behold, a site to visit! Glaceon and Mawile became immediate best friends. They hopped and skipped over the snow and water puddles together. It's kinda adorable when you watch two cute Pokemons play together, especially when those two Pokemons are best friends right from the start!
There are no cars, no transportation, only walking is your available option. That's how uninfluenced this town is! While passing through the old fashioned Japanese houses, an old lady surrounded with a bunch of children caught my attention. She was telling a story to the young generations, her eyes were allied with conviction and interest.
"... And that's how, the festival began." Me and my friends missed the old lady's story, all the children clapped their hands and left the site to continue playing with each other. The old lady looked familiar to me, as it was like I saw her in tv or met her in person.
I squinted my eyes, and that's when I realized, an elite four in site! It was Agatha, the third elite four of the Indigo Plateau.
"Hey Ms. Agatha!" I beamed with joy and excitement as I rushed towards her.
"Oh? It's dear Kalem and his little Riolu. Nice to meet you again." Agatha smiled while holding her wooden cane.
"Wait Kalem, you've met Agatha before!?" My friends uttered with shock.
"Yup, dad introduced me to her in a small conference meeting back in the Kanto region." I explained while remembering a distant past.
"That's right. Oh? And are these two cuties yours?" Agatha questioned while smiling at Glaceon and Mawile.
"Yes Ms.Agatha. Their names are Glaceon and Mawile!"
"Ho-ho! You're becoming quite the trainer my dear. I would like to challenge you if you become a league champion in the Pokemon League." Agatha grinned.
"Really!? Thanks Ms. Agatha! I'll surely do my best in the Kanto League soon, but for now? It's time to focus in this region first."
"Of course. The Pokemon League is in six months time, four months from here, it would be New year." Agatha smiled and explained.
"Hi Ms.Agatha, my name is Zhery!"
"I'm Camellia..."
"The name's Glade Ms.Agatha!"
My friends introduced in front of her... Agatha looked happy to see my fellow friends.
"So Ms.Agatha, we were wondering about the Festival of the Beast! We heard you talking about it, can you please tell us anything about it." Camellia begged while holding a notebook and pen in her hands.
"Oh... You've missed my story time, that's alright. Follow me to the library." Agatha instructed.
The library in town, was huge. It had two floors with book griffins everywhere. We were instructed to follow Agatha, to the second floor of the library. We sat down in a wooden chair, with a long wooden table. Camellia was determined while writing a new page in her research notebook. Agatha came forth with a velvet tinted book. It was entitled, Pokemonwārudo no rekishi.
"Pokemonwārudo no rekishi, or in English it means... History of the Pokemon World." Agatha translated.
"The world of Pokemon is vast indeed, and inside this vast land lies thousands of histories, some of them still have mysteries behind, and some of them? Were solved. For now, let's just focus on the history of the Johto region... At Ecruteak city to be exact." Agatha added.
"Go ahead Ms.Agatha! I am ready to take down notes" Camellia beamed with excitement as Agatha flipped to a chapter in the book of the Pokemon World.
"Mizu, hi, kaminari no mine, or in English... the folklore of water, fire, and thunder." Agatha translated.
"Long ago in the traditional region, familiarly called the Johto region lies a city of ancient past. This city is filled with joyful people and Pokemon, every day they worked and played together! No harm was done, and no crimes were visible.
On the center of the city lies a tall tower. A tower filled with griffins of the ancient Ho-oh! The tower's ceilings were tinted in black, while no one knows the original color of the walls.
Tens of thousands flock to the Belltower, to meet Ho-oh the great. A Pokemon with lustrous wings, golden beak, feisty eyes, and a raging spirit. Through the tower, the people can communicate with the legendary Ho-oh.
One day, a red blazing fire engulfed the tower due to a raging thunderstorm, black skies, and smokey clouds filled the traditional city. The fire engulfed the souls and spirits of three Pokemons. Everybody was alert, they tried to put out the flames but water during that time was limited. People started to panic, the connection between men and Ho-oh has been cut off.
Then, moments later, a light appeared, facing towards the Belltower. Ho-oh descended gloriously from the sky, with its lustrous wings. It sparked hope for the people. Ho-oh vanished the fire, by sending winds and rain, and from there? It revived the three Pokemons corrupted by the fire.
Raikou ascended back to life, it symbolized the thunderstorm which burned down the Belltower. Entei ascended back to life which symbolized the blazing fire which engulfed the tower, while Suicune(Suy-Kun) ascended back to life which symbolized the rain and water which stopped the engulfing flames.
Everybody turned happy once more, as the three Pokemons roamed the entire land. A symbol of hope, and love... that's why every year Enju town and Ecruteak city celebrates the Festival of the Beasts, Entei, Suicune, and Raikou, and in the alma tree in the center of the fire shrine? That's for the last day of the festival. The last day is a special day for Enju town. Everybody will witness the arrival of Ho-oh! Ho-oh will pass through the town, bringing blessings and peace to everyone." Agatha explained.
"But Miss Agatha, if the tower cut the connection between men and Ho-oh, is there a way to communicate with Ho-oh?" Camellia questioned.
"Oh yes... through the rainbow wing Ho-oh chooses the rainbow hero... but that is a story for another time." Agatha smiled.
"So that means, each shrine represents the beasts, Suicune, Entei, and Raikou?" Zhery reassured.
"Yes, for the first day of the festival it would be nothing but excitement, laughter, peace, and kindness. A celebration, a feast, with numerous meals! For the second day, it will be dedicated to the beast of thunders, Raikou. For the third day, it will be dedicated to the beast of fires, for the fourth day, it will be dedicated for the beasts of oceans and water. On the last day? Everybody will gather on the tree, waiting for Ho-oh to show its appearance, and maybe choose the next rainbow hero perhaps.
On the last day, everybody is expected to give gifts to their friend's families or loved ones. The gifts represent the kindness and generosity of Ho-oh. Ho-oh taught us, that the world is worth caring and saving for, a world filled with peace and kindness. That is what the gifts represent." Agatha explained.
"Now I get it... The festival takes place with the Yuletide event too right?" Zhery questioned.
"Yes, Yuletide or winter happens on the same day as the festival, then it would be five months left before the new year!" Agatha smiled.
Yuletide or winter is a day for gift-giving and peace, it falls on the first day of the Hachigatsu.
"Since its also Yuletide, after Ho-oh? The town will eat together, a huge feast will be held!" Agatha smiled.
"Great! I'm all fired up." I beamed with excitement, two festivals in one. Yuletide and the festival of the beasts!
"Ho-ho! Why don't you participate in the elite four battle launch!" Agatha suggested.
"Elite four battle launch?" Glade questioned.
"Yup... It's a competition wherein trainers can battle the Kanto's Elite four!" Agatha explained.
"Really!? That will be amazing! I can't wait to meet Lorelei, Bruno, and Lance again!" I beamed with excitement.
"Wait... you've met them!?" My friends uttered with shock.
"Of course I have! The Kanto Elite Four and I are very close! I've met them for more than ten times already!" I beamed with excitement.
"One thing never changes.. you sure are a silly little boy like your father." Agatha teased.
"So Agatha, where can I sign up!?" I leaned my face in front of her looking and pumping with excitement.
"Don't worry... I have the forms. All you have to do is to win the Tag Battle Frontier." Agatha explained.
"What!? There's one here too! I've always wanted to participate in the Tag Battle Frontier." I beamed with excitement.
"Tag battle frontier? What's that?" Camellia questioned.
"It's a super cool battle cup wherein you get to team up with one of your friends and battle alongside him or her against other tags! I always watched my mother and father... even if I didn't know what moves they were calling out to their Pokemon. Hehe..."
"Ho-ho that's right! So say Kalem and company? Want to join the Tag Battle Frontier? It's in two days time!" Agatha questioned.
"Come on guys, please! This will be fun, I promise." I begged.
After enough conviction, my friends and I decided to participate in the Pokemon Tag Battle Frontier! Now, it's time to choose a partner.
"So Kalem? Who will be your tag partner?" Agatha queried.
"Um... let's see, about you Camellia? Wanna be my tag partner?" I queried with excitement.
"M... Me!?" Camellia queried as her cheeks blushed slightly red.
"Yeah, you were amazing back then! So what do you say we team up? When we win, the both of us can battle the elite four right Ms.Agatha?"
"Yes... we will be using two Pokemons since it's a tag. A tag against one elite, bring it on!" Agatha beamed with excitement.
"Um... of course Kalem! I'll be your tag partner!" Camellia smiled with two blushing cheeks.
"I guess that means me and Zhery are tag partners too."
Agatha gave us a form, we listed down our names together with our tag-partners. This makes Zhery and Glade rivals!
"Go train with your Pokemons for today and tomorrow! We elite four of the Kanto region, are pretty tough!" Agatha warned.
"You heard that Camellia, let's train tomorrow!" I beamed with excitement.
"Glade, we won't back down... let's train too!" Zhery beamed with excitement.
New journeys and new competitions await as the Yuletide and the Festival of the beasts comes closer towards us! Watch out Elite four, cause it's my turn to take my parent's place! As the journey continues!
